DİJİTALLEŞME ÇAĞINDA MEDYADA DAMGALAMA; VİDEO HABERLER VE KULLANICI YORUMLARINA İLİŞKİN ELEŞTİREL SÖYLEM ANALİZİ ÖZ Damgalama; yalnızlaşma, sosyal dışlama, gizlenme, tedavi/bakım/destek hizmetlerinden yararlanamama, konut, sağlık ve eğitim gibi temel hak ve özgürlüklerden mahrum kalma gibi olumsuz sonuçları olan, dolayısıyla politik, sosyo-ekonomik ve kültürel düzlemde değerlendirilmesi gereken çok boyutlu bir sorundur. Bu sorunun çözümü de çok katmanlı bir mücadele sürecini gerektirir. Damgalama ile mücadelede aktif sorumluluk üstlenmesi gereken alanlardan biri medyadır. Çünkü normallik veya kabul edilebilirlik gibi ölçütler sunan medya, anlamın üretilmesi, inşa edilmesi ve tüketilmesinde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Dolayısıyla kitleleri ikna ve yönlendirme gücü bulunan medyanın eşitlikçi, kapsayıcı, çoğulcu dil ve söylem pratikleri toplumsal farkındalık ve duyarlılığın sağlanması ile damgalama karşıtı mücadelede belirleyici niteliktedir. Gündelik hayatın bir parçası haline gelen dijital medya platformları damgalamaya maruz kalan bireylerin bir araya gelerek duygu, düşünce, bilgi ve deneyim paylaşımında bulundukları eğitim ve örgütlenme alanı sağlamaktadır. Ancak yanlış bilginin hiçbir dönem olmadığı kadar hızlı yayıldığı çevrimiçi ortamlar belirli kişi veya gruplara yönelik yaftalama, ayrıştırma, kategorize etme ve nihayetinde hedef haline getirmeyi içeren damgalanmayı yaygınlaştırmaktadır. Bu varsayımlardan hareketle araştırmada etkileşimli/dijital medya ortamlarının mevcut damgalama pratikleri üzerindeki etkisi irdelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında YouTube adlı video paylaşım platformunda yer alan haberler ve kullanıcı yorumları Eleştirel Söylem Analizi kapsamında analiz edilmiştir. Ruhsal/psikolojik rahatsızlık yaşayanlara yönelik damgalama pratiklerine odaklanan araştırmada, dijital ortamda kullanıcıların bilgi ve deneyimlerini paylaşarak inşa ettiği söylemler ve oluşturdukları kolektif anlatılarla, damgaları yeniden ürettiği ve dolaşıma sunduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kullanıcı yorumlarının haber söylemine paralellik göstermesinin yanı sıra eleştirel yaklaşımları içerdiği ve dez/mezenformasyonun ifşa ettiği görülmüştür. Anahtar Kelimeler: Damgalama, Stigma, Medya, Dijital Medya, Kullanıcı MEDIA STIGMATIZATION IN THE AGE OF DIGITALIZATION; CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF VIDEO NEWS AND USER COMMENTS ABSTRACT Stigmatization is a multidimensional problem that has negative consequences such as isolation, social exclusion, concealment, inability to benefit from treatment/care/support services, deprivation of basic rights and freedoms such as housing, health and education, and therefore needs to be evaluated at the political, socio-economic and cultural levels. The solution to this problem requires a multi-layered process of struggle. One of the areas that should assume active responsibility in the fight against stigmatization is the media. Because the media, which offers criteria such as normality or acceptability, has a significant impact on the production, construction and consumption of meaning. Therefore, the egalitarian, inclusive and pluralistic language and discourse practices of the media, which has the power to persuade and direct the masses, are decisive in ensuring social awareness and sensitivity and in the fight against stigmatization. Digital media platforms, which have become a part of everyday life, provide an educational and organizational space where individuals who are subjected to stigma come together and share their feelings, thoughts, knowledge and experiences. However, online environments, where false information spreads faster than ever before, extends stigmatization, which includes stigmatizing, discriminating, categorizing and ultimately targeting certain individuals or groups. Based on these assumptions, the study examines the impact of interactive/digital media environments on existing stigmatization practices. Within the scope of the study, news and user comments on the video sharing platform YouTube were analyzed within of Critical Discourse Analysis. In the research focusing on stigmatization practices towards those with mental/psychological disorders, it revealed that users in the digital environment reproduce and circulate stigmas through the discourses and collective narratives they construct by sharing their knowledge and experiences. It has been observed that user comments not only parallel the news discourse but also include critical approaches and disclose dis/misinformation. Turkish validity and reliability study of the psychological food involvement scale: PFIS-TR
Background This study aimed to adapt the Psychological Food Involvement Scale (PFIS) to Turkish culture and test its validity and reliability. The PFIS measures individuals' psychological, emotional, and social relationships with food, which significantly impact eating behaviors and health. Methods The study was conducted with 478 participants aged 18-65. The PFIS underwent a six-stage translation and cultural adaptation process. Data collection was carried out via Google Forms, with participants completing a general information form, PFIS, and the Addiction-like Eating Behavior Scale (ALEBS). Reliability was assessed using the test-retest method. SPSS 24 was used for statistical evaluation, including internal consistency coefficient calculations, factor analysis, and correlation tests. Results The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value was 0.94, indicating an adequate sample size, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was significant (p 0.40 and eigenvalues > 1. Confirmatory factor analysis showed good fit indices: chi 2 /sd = 2.28, GFI = 0.95, AGFI = 0.93 CFI = 0.98, NFI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.05, SRMR = 0.04). Internal consistency analysis showed high reliability, with Cronbach's Alpha coefficients ranging from 0.86 to 0.94 across subscales. Conclusion The Turkish version of the PFIS was found to be a valid and reliable tool for assessing psychological food involvement in the studied sample of the Turkish adult population.Elif KurtulusWe would like to thank you Elif Kurtulus for their support
UAV Selection Using Fuzzy AHP and PROMETHEE Method
UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is an aircraft that can fly by remote control or automated system and does not have the capacity to carry people. The optimal selection of UAVs is critical for the successful conduct of operations and the prevention of loss of life and property. The aim of this study is to prioritize the criteria affecting the selection of UAVs and to rank the Strategic UAVs based on these criteria. Thus, it is aimed to improve the UAV selection process of decision makers. As a result of the literature search, there were no studies on the most important criteria affecting the selection of operational, tactical and strategic UAVs. Therefore, Fuzzy AHP and PROMETHEE methods were applied to fulfill these objectives. As a result, it was determined that the most important criteria in the selection of UAVs are realizability, flight stability and payload success rate value
Evaluation of Financial Performance of Software Firms Using Grey Relational Analysis Method
Yazılım sektörü birçok sektörde yaygın olarak varlığını sürdüren ve gelecekte birçok sektörde etki ve kapsam düzeyini artırması beklenen önemli sektörlerden biridir. Bu çalışmada, literatürde daha önce incelenmemiş bir kapsamda yazılım firmalarının finansal performanslarını değerlendirmek amacıyla Gri İlişkisel Analiz (GİA) yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu amaçla, analize dahil edilen yüksek piyasa değerine sahip beş yazılım firması için çalışma kapsamına alınan finansal oranlar üzerinde GİA analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, Firma 1 2023 (n=0,8099), 2022 (n=0,8173) ve 2021 (n=0,7326) yıllarında en yüksek gri ilişkisel notla ilk sırada yer alırken, Firma 5 2024 (n=0,7834) yılında en yüksek gri ilişkisel notla ilk sırada yer almıştır. Bu çalışmanın araştırmacılara ve uygulayıcılara yararlı bilgiler sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir.The software sector is one of the important sectors that has been widely present in many sectors and is expected to increase its level of influence and scope in many sectors in the future. In this study, the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) method was used to evaluate the financial performance of software firms in a scope that has not been previously examined in the literature. For this purpose, GRA analysis was performed on the financial ratios included in the scope of the study for five software firms with high market capitalization included in the analysis. According to the analysis results, Firm 1 ranked first with the highest grey relational grade in 2023 (n=0.8099), 2022 (n=0.8173) and 2021 (n=0.7326), while Firm 5 ranked first with the highest grey relational grade in 2024 (n=0.7834). It is thought that this study can provide useful information to researchers and practitioners
Derin Öğrenme Modelleri Kullanarak Retina Hastalığı Sınıflandırması
Bu çalışma, derin öğrenme yöntemlerini kullanarak retina hastalıklarının otomatik sınıflandırılmasını ve teşhis süreçlerini iyileştirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Retina hastalıkları, özellikle diabetik retinopati, yaşa bağlı maküler dejenerasyon (AMD), glokom ve retina damar tıkanıklığı, dünya genelinde görme kaybının başlıca nedenleri arasındadır. Bu hastalıkların erken teşhisi ve doğru sınıflandırılması, görme kaybını önlemek adına kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Derin öğrenme tabanlı yaklaşımlar, insan faktörüne bağlı teşhis hatalarını azaltarak daha yüksek doğruluk oranları sunmakta ve retina görüntüleme yöntemlerinin etkinliğini artırmaktadır.
Çalışmada, konvolüsyonel sinir ağları (CNN) ve transfer learning modelleri kullanılarak retina hastalıklarının sınıflandırılmasının karşılaştırılması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Fundus ve optik koherens tomografi (OCT) görüntüleri üzerinde yapılan analizler, yüksek doğruluk oranlarıyla bu yöntemlerin etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Elde edilen modeller, doğruluk, hassasiyet, hatırlama ve F1 skoru gibi metriklerle değerlendirilmiş ve klinik uygulamalardaki potansiyelleri irdelenmiştir.
Araştırma sonuçları, derin öğrenme yöntemlerinin, retina hastalıklarının erken teşhisinde hız, doğruluk ve tekrarlanabilirlik gibi avantajlar sunduğunu göstermektedir. Özellikle CNN tabanlı modellerin performansı, uzman teşhis süreçlerini destekleyerek görme kaybını önlemeye yönelik önemli bir katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışma, tıbbi görüntüleme teknolojilerinde derin öğrenmenin kullanımına dair yeni bir perspektif sunmakta ve sağlık profesyonellerinin iş yükünü azaltacak çözüm önerileri ortaya koymaktadır
Adaptive trajectory tracking control of quadrotors based on trigonometric parameter estimation law
This paper proposes a trigonometric adaptive control (TAC) approach for quadrotors in order to obtain remarkable trajectory tracking performance in the presence of time-varying parameters. The stability of proposed controller is guaranteed by using Lyapunov stability theory. A square trajectory for way-point tracking and a 6-DoF under-actuated nonlinear quadrotor model with time-varying parameters have been used for numerical analysis. To better assess the performance of proposed adaptive controller on trajectory tracking, the results have been compared with those of a similar previous adaptive controller. The effectiveness of proposed adaptive controller has been provided highlighting that the lateral x and y position errors have been reduced by 75.18% and 71.86%, respectively, while the attitude (pitch, roll and yaw) errors have been reduced by 75.87%, 74.72% and 98.32%, respectively. Additionally, the altitude (z) error has been minimised by 37.89%. The most remarkable result to emerge from this study is that better trajectory tracking performance has been obtained by proposed adaptive controller without causing chattering phenomenon. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the attenuation of disturbance inputs on the responses has been achieved
Does ESG performance have an impact on financial performance? Evidence from Turkey
PURPOSE: Stakeholders such as consumers, nongovernmental organizations, and public institutions have increasingly pressured companies to adopt corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies. This trend has led to the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting into business strategies to achieve long-term competitive advantages and enhance financial performance. ESG reporting has become a critical tool for measuring corporate CSR efforts, contributing to the institutionalization of nonfinancial reporting standards. This study aims to determine how the adoption of ESG sub-dimensions affects the financial performance of companies in Turkey. METHODOLOGY: The study employed panel regression analysis on data from 21 companies listed in the Borsa Istanbul-100 index over the period 2011-2020 to investigate the relationship between ESG sub-dimensions and firm performance. FINDINGS: The findings indicate that adopting the environmental and governance sub-dimensions positively affects ROE and Tobins'Q. However, the adoption of the governance sub-dimension negatively impacts Tobins'Q while positively influencing ROE. No statistically significant results were found regarding the impact of ESG sub-dimensions on firms' ROA ratios. IMPLICATIONS: The results of the research, based on the example of Turkey, are important to determine how companies' social responsibility strategies in developing countries provide them with outputs in terms of environment, social and governance and whether social responsibility-based activities are truly sustainable strategy for companies in developing countries.The findings highlight the importance of considering the macroeconomic structure, legal system, and financial development of countries when evaluating CSR activities. The regulatory environment plays a significant role, as weaker legal protections can negatively affect the relationship between governance practices and firm performance. For practitioners, the insights suggest prioritizing environmental investments and carefully strategizing governance practices to align with investor expectations and regulatory frameworks. ORIGINALITY AND VALUE: By focusing on the BIST 100 companies, this study contributes to the limited literature on the role of ESG sub-dimensions in shaping financial performance in developing markets. This research provides valuable insights into how environmental, social, and governance practices specifically impact the financial outcomes of firms in Turkey, offeringa nuanced understanding that can inform both academic discussions and practical strategies in similar contexts
İSTANBUL’DA ULUSLARARASI OKULDA GÖREV ALAN YABANCI ÖĞRETMENLERİN ULUSLARARASI EĞİTİM İLE İLGİLİ DENEYİMLERİNE İLİŞKİN NİTEL BİR İNCELEME
This study aims to try to understand the perceptions, opinions, thoughts and experiences of foreign teachers working in primary schools that provide international education in Türkiye. This research was conducted using qualitative method and in-depth interview technique. The study group comprised 10 foreign teachers working in an international school in Istanbul, none of whom were Turkish citizens. The interviews were conducted between April and June 2023 and lasted from 60 to 120 minutes. According to the findings; all the teachers had at least seven years of teaching experience in both national and international curriculums, were between the age of 34-44, mostly married with kids. Teachers defined international education as an educational philosophy that raised multicultural, multilingual, tolerant, openminded, respectful world citizens. Finally, these results were discussed in the context of different studies in the literature. Some suggestions were presented for both educational institutions and further researches about the field.Bu çalışmanın amacı, ülkemizde sınırlı çalışmanın gerçekleştirilmiş olduğu uluslararası eğitim veren ilkokullarda görev alan yabancı uyruklu öğretmenlerin uluslararası eğitim üzerine algı, görüş, düşünce ve deneyimlerinin anlaşılmaya çalışılmasıdır. Araştırma, nitel yöntem ve derinlemesine mülakat tekniği kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında uluslararası eğitime dahil olan, hiçbir ulusal eğitim sistemine bağlı olmayan, eğitim dili İngilizce olan ve ilköğretim düzeyinde eğitim veren okullarda öğretmenlik yapan kişiler araştırmanın evrenini oluştururken, İstanbul’da bir uluslararası okulda görev alan, hiçbiri Türk olmayan ve mümkün olduğu kadar farklı ülkelerin vatandaşı olarak belirlenmiş olan 10 yabancı öğretmen çalışma grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Görüşmeler Nisan-Haziran 2023 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiş olup 60-120 dakika arası sürmüştür. Veri doygunluğuna ulaşılması ile görüşmeler sonlandırılmıştır. Verilerin incelenip kategorilendirilmesi sonucu elde edilen bulgulara göre görüşülen öğretmenlerin hepsinin en az 7 yıllık öğretmenlik tecrübesi vardır. Hepsi uluslararası eğitim veren okulların yanı sıra kendi vatandaşı oldukları ülkelerin ulusal eğitimlerinde de öğretmen olarak görev almışlardır. Öğretmenlerin uluslararası eğitimi çok kültürlü, çok dilli, hoşgörülü, farklılıklara saygılı, araştırmacı, dünya vatandaşı bireyler yetiştiren bir eğitim felsefesi olarak tanımladıkları ve bu kavramlar arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptanmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde ise ulaşılan bulguların literatürde mevcut diğer araştırmalar ile değerlendirilerek hem eğitim kurumları hem de gelecekte yapılacak çalışmalar için birtakım öneriler sunulmaya çalışılmıştır
China’s Sustainable Development under Climate, Energy and Policy Uncertainty: A Focus on SDG 7 and SDG 13
This paper contributes to the literature through a focus on the case of China and an investigation into the effects that CPU, EPU, and EUI variables have upon SDG 13 and SDG 7 through using ARDL and NARDL models along with the Dynamic Multipliers Effect Test. The analysis period includes annual data from 2003 to 2022. In the case of this study, from the literature review, some readily available studies measured the impact of China’s CPU, EPU, and EUI on the SDGs. It has also been observed that the degree of investigation on the effects of CPU on SDG 13 and SDG 7 has been shallow. Based on the results, the constructed SDG 7 and SDG 13 ARDL and NARDL models strongly validate the cointegration relationships among the taken variables. The test of symmetric effects on CPU in SDG13 from the results of the NARDL shows that the coefficients for LCPUpoz andLCPUneg are positive, which means the effects of positive shocks are more dominant. Additionally, to ensure model robustness, three parametric methods—Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS), Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS), and Canonical Cointegration Regression (CCR) are utilized. According to results, CPU, EPU and EUI have a substantial impact on the SDG7 and SDG13 indices. © 2025, Econjournals. All rights reserved
Estimating Parking Lot Occupancy Based on Traffic Congestion for Route Planning

In crowded cities like Istanbul, not only waiting in traffic but also the availability of parking spaces at the destination is a critical issue. Predicting the occupancy of parking lots in advance can supply a significant advantage for drivers. In this study, traffic congestion in Istanbul is attempted to be estimated using artificial intelligence techniques such as K-NN, Decision Trees, and Artificial Neural Networks, with 2022 vehicle traffic data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Open Data Portal. As a result of the tests, the decision tree method provided the best results in the dataset, estimating traffic congestion with an R2 value of 0.8469. The occupancy status of parking lots in areas close to the traffic congestion estimation points was determined using the İspark Parking Detailed Information dataset. Based on the obtained information, it is aimed to predict the occupancy status of parking lots according to traffic congestion without the need for live data using the Dijkstra algorithm in the future. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025
