    Get PDF
In this study, mechanical behavior of HY 80 steel in various mediums such as solutions of HCl, H2S04 and NaOH has been investigated experimentally. The plate specimens, tensile specimens and V-notched specimens are immersed in solutions of HCl, H2S04 and NaOH. Mass losses of immersed HY 80 flat plate specimens are measured after 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks for each H2S04, NaOH and HCl solutions to determine the aggressivity of the corrosive medium to surface of HY 80 steel. Also, tensile specimens and V-notched specimens are immersed for 1, 2 and 4 weeks to study on the effect of corrosive medium on fracture toughness and yielding behavior of HY 80 steels. The results show that however, yielding strength and ultimate tensile strength of HY 80 steel have reduced after immersed in acidic solutions of HCl and H2S04, are stable after immersed in solution of NaOH. Furthermore, effect of acidic medium lower the fracture toughness of HY 80 steel

    Get PDF
This study focuses on the analysis of video recordings captured by digital cameras during face-to-face exams in a classroom setting. It aims to detect abnormal behaviors and improve performance by removing background objects. The goal is to develop a new model to accurately identify actions during classroom exams. The study begins with the creation of the COPYNet dataset, which comprises a substantial collection of approximately 30,000 images. This dataset is used to develop and validate algorithms for detecting abnormal behaviors and to evaluate the performance improvements achieved after background object removal. The dataset is divided into five different groups based on behavior categories. To achieve high performance in solving the image classification problem, transfer learning is employed using the pre-trained ResNet model, which is hybridized separately with the Faster R-CNN and YOLOv5 algorithms. A deep neural network framework (COPYNet) is created to model normal behavior and generate an abnormal behavior score. The COPYNet framework demonstrates a precision of %90, a recall of %88, and an accuracy of %88. These figures represent a significant leap in anomaly detection compared to the existing literature. The presented results highlight the model's ability to accurately distinguish between different behavior classes, making it a valuable tool for detecting suspicious behaviors during face-to-face exams. Consequently, when the model detects abnormal activity, it aims to trigger an alert that can be sent to the proctor, serving as a decision support mechanism for exam invigilators. Based on the achieved success rates, our study shows better results in capturing suspicious movements during classroom exams compared to previous studies in the literature

Suicide is a theme that allows one to understand the complexities of human nature. Contemplation or committing suicide is a way to explore one's existential questionings, and it can serve as a means to assert their existence in a paradoxical way. Throughout the history of literature, suicide has been a prevalent theme, from the ancient Greek tragedies and Shakespearean heroic suicides to modern works. Female suicide in literature, in particular, has been considered a tragic result of the quest for identity triggered by societal constraints, tragic love, and mental problems. Similarly, the female protagonists that are subject to this thesis have been considered to have designed a death of their own as a result of their search for identity and self-discovery. However, their suffering is a temporary stage during their journey of self-discovery, and they advance in their heroic inner journey toward their authentic self. This thesis aims to discuss the journey of self-discovery of the female protagonists who are subject to this thesis and how they navigate their quest for identity by examining their progression towards self-authenticity and rebirth through the individuation process

Performance of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV

The operation and performance of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) are presented, based on data collected in pp collisions at root s = 13 TeV at the CERN LHC, in the years from 2015 to 2018 (LHC Run 2), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 151 fb(-1). The CMS ECAL is a scintillating lead-tungstate crystal calorimeter, with a silicon strip preshower detector in the forward region that provides precise measurements of the energy and the time-of-arrival of electrons and photons. The successful operation of the ECAL is crucial for a broad range of physics goals, ranging from observing the Higgs boson and measuring its properties, to other standard model measurements and searches for new phenomena. Precise calibration, alignment, and monitoring of the ECAL response are important ingredients to achieve these goals. To face the challenges posed by the higher luminosity, which characterized the operation of the LHC in Run 2, the procedures established during the 2011-2012 run of the LHC have been revisited and new methods have been developed for the energy measurement and for the ECAL calibration. The energy resolution of the calorimeter, for electrons from Z boson decays reaching the ECAL without significant loss of energy by bremsstrahlung, was better than 1.8%, 3.0%, and 4.5% in the vertical bar eta vertical bar intervals [ 0.0, 0.8], [0.8, 1.5], [1.5, 2.5], respectively. This resulting performance is similar to that achieved during Run 1 in 2011-2012, in spite of the more severe running conditions.FWF; FNRS; FWO (Belgium); CNPq; CAPES; FAPERJ; FAPERGS; FAPESP (Brazil); BNSF (Bulgaria); MoST; NSFC (China); CSF (Croatia); RIF (Cyprus); SENESCYT (Ecuador); ERC PRG [MoER TK202]; Academy of Finland; MEC; CEA; CNRS/IN2P3 (France); SRNSF; BMBF; DFG; HGF (Germany); NKFIH (Hungary); DAE; DST; IPM; SFI (Ireland); INFN (Italy); NRF (Republic of Korea); MES (Latvia); MOE; UM (Malaysia); BUAP; CONACYT; UASLP-FAI (Mexico); PAEC (Pakistan); FCT (Portugal); MESTD (Serbia); PCTI (Spain); MOSTR (Sri Lanka); Swiss Funding Agencies (Switzerland); NSTDA; TUBITAK; DOE; NSF; Marie-Curie programme; European Research Council; Horizon 2020 Grant [675440, 724704, 752730, 758316, 765710, 824093]; COST Action [CA16108]; Leventis Foundation; Alfred P. Evaluation of national independence movements in the context of the problem of definition of terrorism in international law

    Get PDF
The problem of the inability to define terrorism in international law is seen when it is examined in all its dimensions, which is directly related to the political structures of the states. Although countries suffer serious injuries from the concepts of terrorism and terrorism to a disturbing extent, some states are trying to legitimize terrorism in line with their own interests by giving open or implicit support to terrorism. States can do the damage they want by supporting terrorist organizations working against another state, damaging their economies, shaking their authority. For this reason, it suggests that it is conscious not to make a definition of terrorism that will be accepted internationally. National independence movements have proven their legitimacy by many states in the international arena, including states that are parties to the United Nations (UN), and their origin is a justified struggle for independence by nations to prevent their self-determination principle, that is, to prevent the exploitation of states by other states or to get rid of the colony. Ethnic terrorism, on the other hand, is a terrorist structure that can be legitimized on this basis, and that states can even use to harm another state in line with their own political interests. The use of these two concepts, which are very different concepts, interchangeably in line with the political interests of the states, and the fact that terrorism is not defined in the international arena constitutes both the cause and the consequences of the problem. Armed conflicts, on the other hand, are types of conflicts that are based on international conventions and practices, especially the unConventions of 1949 and the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, which have certain rules around humanitarian law. The international armed conflicts consist of the contract between the states, which are based on the Common Article 2 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. Non-international armed conflicts, on the other hand, are not based on an official text. This situation, on the other hand, paves the way for terrorism to legitimize, as whether states call an armed incident in another country like a terrorist incident or an armed conflict creates a point of view entirely according to their own political structures

Effects of Digitalization on Labour Markets: Digital Education

    Get PDF
This study aims to explore the impact of digitalization on the education labor market. Additionally, it seeks to identify the skills and qualifications that individuals aiming to become education specialists or managers in the private sector should possess, and to foresee the future of the education sector. A qualitative method was employed in the research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 individuals working as education specialists or managers in the private sector. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The results of the study indicate that digitalization has led to an increase in the competency levels of educators, their professional development, the emergence of new jobs, and the disappearance of some professions. It was also found that educators who lack digital competencies are at risk of unemployment. It is recommended that educators develop their educational content, methods, and competencies in a way that aligns with digital transformation

Uncertainty and Money Demand Function in Developing Countries

    Get PDF
As monetary policy authorities influence many macroeconomic variables by determining monetary aggregates, their relationships with other macroeconomic variables are critical in setting the most appropriate monetary policy rules. Identifying the variables affecting money demand and having a stable money demand function is essential for monetary policy. This paper examines the stability of the money demand function for 12 developing countries over the sample 2006.Q1-2023.Q3. We employ the Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model and the Cross-Sectionally Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model because of the different degrees of integration of the selected variables. According to the results, there is a stable long-run relation in the money demand function for selected developing countries. The uncertainty variable, which is the study’s primary objective, affects money demand negatively in the long run; it does not temporarily affect the demand for money. The findings also indicate that the real GDP (inflation) positively (negatively) impacts demand for real monetary aggregates as expected. The real interest rate measuring the opportunity cost of holding money does not significantly affect money demand. Although the effect of the exchange rate is positive in the short run, it turns negative as time passes and in the long run. This finding supports the ‘wealth effect’ in developing countries
