Examining Mindfulness's Mediating Role in the Relationship Between Infidelity Tendency and Divorce Anxiety
This study explores the role of mindfulness in marriage as a potential mediator in the relationship between infidelity tendencies and divorce anxiety among married individuals. Employing a sample of 415 married individuals, the research utilized a correlational model to examine the predictive capacity of marital mindfulness. The assessment involved the Mindfulness in Marriage Scale, Infidelity Tendency Scale, and Divorce Anxiety Scale, supplemented by a demographic information form. We analyzed the data using SPSS, incorporating techniques such as Pearson correlation and mediation analysis for parametric distributions. The analysis identified a statistically significant, low, negative correlation between infidelity tendency and divorce anxiety. Additionally, there was a significant, low-positive correlation between infidelity tendency and marital mindfulness. The relationship between divorce anxiety and marital mindfulness also displayed a significant, low negative correlation. Furthermore, the study determined that marital mindfulness plays a significant role as a partial mediator in the relationship between infidelity tendency and divorce anxiety. The findings emphasize the importance of incorporating mindfulness practices in marital counseling and interventions aimed at reducing divorce anxiety and managing infidelity tendencies. We discuss the limitations and implications for future studies to improve our understanding and application of mindfulness in marital contexts
Knowledge and Attitudes About Obstructive Sleep Apnea Among Dental Students: A Cross-Sectional Study
Objective: Dental sleep medicine is an increasingly recognized medical specialty, but obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) frequently progresses undetected. Dentists are often the first health-care professionals to assess signs and symptoms of OSA and therefore have a key role in OSA diagnosis. The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge and attitudes about OSA among dental students. Methods: The OSA knowledge and attitude questionnaire was completed by dental students between April 2023 and June 2023. The questionnaire includes 18 knowledge and 5 attitude items on OSA. Chi-square tests and Student’s t-tests were used to compare the differences between individual items and mean scores of the participants. Differences were considered significant at P < .05. Results: A total of 351 dental students participated in the study. The total knowledge scores of the students were poor with a mean knowledge score for all students of 51% (9.18 ± 2.89). While 67.6% of participants considered OSA to be of clinical importance, only 18.2% were confident in their ability to manage OSA. Conclusion: There are some deficiencies in the OSA education provided to dental students. Additional courses on dental sleep medicine are needed, and relevant updates should be made to the dentistry curriculum. Alacak Yönetiminde Sorunlu Krediler ve Varlık Devirlerinin Tahsilat Performansına Etkisi
Bu çalışma, bankalarda sorunlu alacakların varlık yönetim şirketlerine devrini ele alarak satın alınan kredilerin bankaların ve varlık yönetim şirketlerinin rasyolarına olası etkilerine katkısını incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Takipteki kredilerin bankaların ve varlık yönetim şirketlerinin kârlılıkları üzerine etkisi olup olmadığı incelenmiştir. Ticari bankaların ve varlık yönetim şirketlerinin takipteki kredileri ele alınarak sektörel bazda katkı sağlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Türkiye’de faaliyet gösteren bankalar ve varlık yönetim şirketlerinin 2010-2020 yılları arası verileri kullanılarak takipteki kredilerin varlık yönetim şirketlerine satışını ele almak ve devir sonrası bankalar ve varlık yönetim şirketlerinin mali yapıları ve rasyolarına olası etkileri incelenmiştir. Bulgular takipteki kredilerin bankaların net kâr marjı, aktif kârlılık ve öz sermaye kârlılığı, sermaye yeterlilik rasyosu üzerinde etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Varlık yönetim şirketleri açısından takipteki krediler aktif kârlılık, net kâr marjı, net faiz marjı ve öz sermaye kârlılığı üzerinde etkili olduğu sonucunu göstermektedir. Bulgulardan hareketle takipteki krediler banka kârlılıklarını azaltmaktadır
Brexit's effects on energy inflation in the UK
This study examined the effects of the Brexit referendum and the UK's official withdrawal from the EU on energy inflation by employing a difference-in-differences methodology to evaluate the implications of the policy change in the country. The study also takes into account the primary member states of the EU, namely France, Germany, and the Netherlands. This study demonstrated that the referendum held on 23 June 2016 and the subsequent official decision to leave the EU on 31 January 2020 did not have a significant effect on overall inflation. However, it did have a significant and positive impact on inflation rates in the energy and transport. Furthermore, the formal institutional shift had a more pronounced impact on energy inflation in comparison to the referendum. This highlights that the government's decision to exit the EU intensified the issue of inflation in the energy sector and its related transport domain inside the nation. This indicates that a nation departing from the EU may have inflationary issues, particularly in the sectors of energy and transportation. The findings indicate that implementing sustainable energy projects is a recommended approach to mitigate the substantial impact of Brexit on energy costs and the transportation sector in the UK
Coenzyme Q10 Supplementation in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Polikistik over sendromu; hiperandrojenizm (erkeklik hormonu yüksekliği) ve kronik anovulasyon (yumurtlama eksikliği) ile karakterize olup özellikle doğurganlık çağındaki kadınlarda yaygın olarak görülen, hormonal ve metabolik anomalilere bağlı olarak ortaya çıkan endokrin bir bozukluktur. Prevalansı ülkeler arasında farklılık göstermekle birlikte dünya genelinde giderek artma eğilimindedir. Etiyolojisinin hem çevresel hem de genetik faktörlerden kaynaklandığı düşünülse de halen tam olarak anlaşılamamıştır. Hücresel düzeyde, mitokondriyal disfonksiyon, oksidatif stres ve inflamasyonun PKOS patogenezinde rol oynadığı düşünülmektedir. Bu hastaların tedavisinde beslenme gibi konularda yaşam tarzı değişiklikleri yapılarak semptomların giderilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu müdahalelerden biri de hastaların diyet takviyesi olarak bir antioksidan olan koezim Q10 kullanmalarıdır. Koenzim Q10, enerji üretiminde yer alarak oksidasyon döngülerini sürdürmektedir. İnsülin ve adiponektin reseptörlerini etkileyerek hastalarda glisemik kontrolü sağlar. İç motokondriyal membranda bulunmasıyla yumurtalık fonksiyonlarının iyileşmesini de desteklemektedir. Bu derleme nitelikteki makalede Google Scholar, ScienceDirect ve PubMed veri tabanları taranarak PKOS tedavisinde koenzim Q10 takviyesinin etkinliğini ve güvenliğini değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır.Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder characterized by hyperandrogenism (elevated male hormone levels) and chronic anovulation (lack of ovulation), which is especially common in women of reproductive age and occurs due to hormonal and metabolic abnormalities. Its prevalence varies between countries but tends to be increasing worldwide. Although its etiology is thought to be caused by both environmental and genetic factors, it is still not fully understood. At the cellular level, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation are thought to play a role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. In the treatment of these patients, lifestyle changes in areas such as nutrition are aimed to relieve symptoms. One of these interventions is the use of coenzyme Q10, an antioxidant, as a dietary supplement. Coenzyme Q10 maintains oxidation cycles by taking part in energy production. It affects insulin and adiponectin receptors and provides glycemic control in patients. Its presence in the inner mitochondrial membrane also supports the recovery of ovarian function. Leveraging a novel grey wolf algorithm for optimization of photovoltaic-battery energy storage system under partial shading conditions
Photovoltaic (PV) systems, in conjunction with battery energy storage systems (BESS), have emerged as promising solutions for sustainable energy generation and consumption. However, the performance of these systems can be significantly impacted by partial shading conditions, which can lead to power losses and reduced efficiency. This research proposes a novel grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO) to optimize the operation of PV-BESS systems under partial shading conditions. The GWO, inspired by the hunting behavior of grey wolves, is a robust optimization technique capable of handling complex and nonlinear problems. The proposed approach aims to maximize energy output, minimize power losses, and ensure optimal battery management. By effectively addressing the challenges posed by partial shading, this research contributes to the advancement of PV-BESS systems as reliable and efficient renewable energy solutions. The proposed system, consisting of a PV array, boost converter, MPPT controller, and battery, was evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink under various conditions. The results demonstrate that the NGWO algorithm achieves 99.89 % tracking efficiency under standard conditions and over 99.26 % under PSC, outperforming particle swarm Optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), the conventional GWO, and Perturb & Observe (P&O) methods. Notably, NGWO exhibits faster response times (0.01 s) and reduced power ripples compared to other algorithms, enhancing both energy extraction and battery efficiency. By optimizing state of charge (SOC) control, the NGWO extends battery lifespan, offering a superior solution for PV systems in challenging environments
Monitoring of Ochratoxin A Occurrence and Dietary Intake in Tarhana, a Fermented Cereal-Based Product
The aim of this study was to determine the mold and ochratoxin A (OTA) contamination of tarhana, a traditional product widely consumed in Turkish cuisine. For this purpose, a total of 350 tarhana samples (homemade and industrially produced) were randomly collected from retail stores, markets, and bazaars in different regions of T & uuml;rkiye and analyzed by means of LC-MS/MS for the occurrence of OTA. According to the results, OTA was detected in 36 of 150 (24%) industrially produced tarhana samples, with a concentration range of 0.12-2.34 mu g/kg, while 118 of 200 (59%) homemade tarhana samples contained OTA, with the range from 0.16 to 4.15 mu g/kg. Only 8 of 350 (4%) homemade tarhana samples were found to be above the maximum permissible limit (3.0 mu g/kg) for OTA. The mold contamination was found to be higher in homemade tarhana (3.756 log CFU/g) than in the industrially produced samples (2.742 log CFU/g). The estimated weekly intake values of OTA with tarhana consumption were well below the provisional tolerable weekly intake values for both industrially produced and homemade tarhana samples, even when consumed every day of the week, indicating that dietary intake of OTA through tarhana consumption does not pose a health risk. In conclusion, optimizing the fermentation and drying conditions applied during tarhana production and ensuring proper hygiene conditions can help to reduce the risk of OTA contamination. A Comparison of the Fracture Resistance of Maxillary Central Incisors with a Ferrule with Various Post Systems
Purpose. In the literature, the influence of different post types utilized on ferrule-formed maxillary central teeth on fracture resistance and restoration life is not clearly explained. This study aims to investigate how fiber reinforced composite posts (FRC), fiber posts (FP), and zirconia ceramic posts (ZCP) effect fracture resistance of endodontically treated central teeth with a ferrule. Materials and Procedures: Ferrule was created to preserve 2 mm of coronal dentin structure for 30 maxillary central teeth that undergone root canal therapy. Thirty maxillary central teeth were separated into three distinct groups, and three distinct posts were applied: FRC, FP, and ZCP. After constructing the post core, the strip crown was applied. Thermal cycling and chewing simulation were performed on the samples. The samples were exposed to a refractive test in a universal testing machine after the refraction test. The samples were subsequently analyzed at x10 magnification using an optical microscope. A one-way ANOVA and Chi-square test were used to assess fracture resistance between groups. Results. In terms of fracture resistance, the statistical analysis revealed no statistically significant differences between the groups. Regarding fracture type, there were no significant differences between the groups. Conclusion. Despite the fact that the type of post is particularly critical for the survival of endodontically treated teeth, the presence of a ferrule considerably improves survival. Endodontically treated teeth that have been prosthetically restored with post implantation are more likely to survive because to the ferrule effect

İstanbul Beykent Üniversitesi Sosyoloji (İngilizce) Bölümü’nün ev sahipliğinde 8-9 Mayıs 2025 tarihleri arasında İstanbul Taksim’de gerçekleştirilen “Kent, Kültür ve Bellek” temalı “Sosyoloji ve Antropoloji Kongresi”, bölümümüzün önceki yıllarda düzenlediği bilimsel etkinliklerin devamı niteliğindedir. 2019’da “Çevre, Orman ve Sosyal Bilimler Sempozyumu”, 2021’de “Antroposen Çağda Sağlık, Ekoloji ve Gıda Sempozyumu” ve 2022’de “Sosyolojinin Gözünden İstanbul Sempozyumu”nun ardından gerçekleştirilen bu kongre, sosyoloji ve antropoloji disiplinlerinin güncel tartışmalarını bir araya getiren önemli bir akademik buluşma olmuştur.
Kongre için yapılan çağrıya Türkiye’nin farklı üniversitelerinden sosyoloji, antropoloji, tarih, edebiyat, mimarlık, şehir planlama ve güzel sanatlar gibi çeşitli disiplinlerden akademisyenler yoğun ilgi göstermiştir. Gelen bildiri özetleri, sosyoloji ve antropoloji alanlarında uzman akademisyenlerden oluşan bilim kurulu tarafından çift taraflı kör hakemlik sistemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Bu titiz değerlendirme sürecinin ardından kabul edilen bildiriler kongre programına dahil edilmiştir.
Toplumsal ve bireysel belleklerdeki devingen ve çok katmanlı bir yer olarak kent, bireylerin değişim ve dönüşüme uğradığı zengin bir biriktirme alanı olarak sosyoloji ve antropoloji disiplinleri için son derece önemli bir araştırma konusudur. Kentler, yalnızca fiziksel mekânlar değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal ilişkilerin üretildiği, kültürel kimliklerin şekillendiği ve kolektif hafızanın inşa edildiği dinamik alanlardır. Bu bağlamda kentsel mekân, hem bireysel deneyimlerin hem de toplumsal süreçlerin kesiştiği, geçmişin izlerini taşırken geleceğin inşa edildiği kritik bir alan olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Günümüz kentlerini ve kentlilerini sosyoloji ve antropoloji disiplinlerinin perspektiflerinden anlamayı amaçlayan “Kent, Kültür ve Bellek” temalı kongrede kente dair geniş tartışmalar; kent ve toplumsal bellek, kentte güven(siz)lik ve suç, kent, afetler ve toplumsal dirençlilik, kent, doğa ve çevresel sorunlar ile kent ve sanat ana başlıklarında ele alınmıştır.
İki gün süren ve eş zamanlı iki ayrı salonda devam eden kongrede toplam 46 bildiri sunulmuştur. Kongre boyunca sunulan bildiriler, kentsel dönüşüm süreçleri, göç ve uyum dinamikleri, kentsel bellek ve kimlik inşası, soylulaştırma ve mekânsal adalet, çevre sorunları ve sürdürülebilirlik, sanat ve kentsel yaşam gibi güncel konuları ele almıştır. Özellikle İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir gibi büyük kentlerin yanı sıra Niğde, Rize, Edirne, Antakya gibi farklı kentlere odaklanan çalışmalar, Türkiye’nin kentsel çeşitliliğini yansıtan zengin bir içerik sunmuştur.
Bu kitap, kongrede sunulan bildiri özetlerini bir araya getirerek, kent çalışmaları alanında yürütülen güncel araştırmaların kapsamlı bir çerçevesini sunmaktadır. Farklı disiplinlerden gelen bu katkılar, kentlerin karmaşık yapısını anlamamız için interdisipliner bir yaklaşımın önemini ortaya koymaktadır
URETHANE-MODIFIED ALKYD RESIN BASED PAINT PRODUCTION: DETERMINATION OF PAINT PROPERTIES
Alkyd resins have an important place among the binders used in the paint industry. One of the major advantages of alkyd resins is that they are susceptible to various modifications to gain the desired properties. In this study, urethane-modified alkyd resins were synthesized at different modification ratios using toluene diisocyanate as a modifier. The resin with the determined optimum modification ratio was used as the binder resin in the paint formulation. In the synthesis of four-component alkyd resin with 50% oil length, phthalic anhydride, tall oil fatty acid, trimethylolpropane, and dipropylene glycol were used. The synthesis of urethane-modified alkyd resins (R-UA-1/1, R-UA-1/2, and R-UA-1/3) was carried out by modification reactions of the prepared alkyd resin with TDI at different NCO/OH (1/1, 1/2, 1/3) molar ratios. Characterization of modified resins was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Subsequently, the optimum NCO/OH ratio was determined due to the physical and chemical surface coating properties and thermogravimetric analysis results of the resin films. The best results were obtained in the resin, where the modification ratio was NCO/OH: 1/1. Then, the urethane-modified alkyd resin (R-UA-1/1) prepared in this ratio was used as a binder in the solvent-based paint formulation. The wet/dry paint properties and household chemical resistance properties of solvent-based paint (B-1/1), prepared using urethane-modified alkyd resin, were examined with tests according to the standards, and the coating performance of this paint was determined in detail. As a result, durable coatings that are suitable for interior applications and can compete with alkyd paints were obtained from the paint prepared with urethane-modified alkyd resin
