A Dual Categorical Equivalence between DiGraph Posets and DiGraph Lattices
It is well known that there is an incidence poset associated with every directed graph. The problem is that this poset doesn’t encode enough information to recreate our directed graph. In his thesis, Crowell solved this problem by considering tripartite posets whose middle elements covers and exactly covered by one element, and which possess a bijection between the maximal elements and the minimal ones. Crowell proved a categorical equivalence between the category DiGraph and the category DiGraph posets [1]. We extend this idea to lattices and we establish a dual categorical equivalence between the categories DiGraph Posets and DiGraph lattices. This will implies a dual categorical equivalence between the categories DiGraph and DiGraph lattices.M.S
Electrochemical Detection of Fenthion for Forensic Analysis
Fenthion is an insecticide that has been widely used to protect crops against pests,
however its toxicity has led to environmental and health concerns. Because of the harms
fenthion presents, the ability to rapidly and accurately assay this pesticide is essential for
forensic investigations of suicides, environmental violations, and poisonings.
Electroanalytical techniques have been shown to be advantageous in detecting pesticides.
Cyclic voltammetry is an electrochemical technique used to determine the reduction and
oxidation of analytes in order to identify unknown compounds. The efficiency of cyclic
voltammetry to detect trace amounts of fenthion is reportedly increased with the use of
nanoparticles to modify the electrode used. The electrocatalytic capabilities of various
nanomaterials drop-casted onto glassy carbon electrodes for fenthion detection will be
presented to provide a non-destructive, cost efficient, time sensitive, and reliable method
of fenthion detection that can be applied to forensic investigation, environmental
protection, and public health efforts

Unraveling the Nexus Between Monetary Policy and Macroeconomic Performance: Evidence from the United States
This dissertation comprises three distinct chapters, each serving as an individual publishable paper. Although these chapters share common empirical tools, the models employed in each chapter are independent of one another. As a result, each chapter is self-contained and can be comprehended separately, making its unique contribution to the subject under investigation.
In the first chapter, titled “Performance Comparison of Banks Stability and Profitability Under Inflation Targeting Frameworks,” the study examines the impact of traditional inflation targeting and average inflation targeting on the stability and profitability of banks in the United States. It utilizes a sample of over 1000 banks from 2004 to 2022 and employs the fixed-effect estimator with AR (1). The findings of this study reveal that banks exhibit lower stability and reduced profitability during periods of both traditional and average inflation targeting. Furthermore, when comparing traditional inflation targeting to average inflation targeting, banks demonstrate even lower stability and experience further reductions in profitability during periods of average inflation targeting compared to periods of traditional inflation targeting.
In the second chapter, titled “Analyzing the combined impact of monetary policy instruments on the profitability of banks,” this study examines the combined effect of monetary policy tools on bank profitability in the US using a sample of over 1000 banks from 2004 to 2022. Employing the two-step system generalized method of moments estimator, the results of this study show that ignoring the combination of monetary policy tools in bank profitability analysis can lead to biased and inconsistent conclusions. The study shows that the federal fund rate is negatively related to bank profit when the combination of monetary policy tools is not considered. Also, the long-term bond yield is positively related to bank profitability. Additionally, the combination of monetary policy tools is positively related to bank profitability, demonstrating that other monetary policy tools influence each monetary policy tool's impact on bank profit.
In the third chapter, titled “Average inflation targeting and its effect on macroeconomic outcomes in the United States,” this paper analyzes the effect of the adoption of average inflation targeting on macroeconomic outcomes in the United States. Using the three stage least square method of estimation, this study contributes to the monetary policy literature by showing how the Federal Reserve's monetary policy has impacted economic growth and stability. In general, the study finds that the direct effects of the adoption of AIT is an increase in the percentage change in the inflation rate and interest rate. Also, the adoption of AIT has led to an increase in the percentage change in output when there is no inclusion of lagged variables. Lastly, the total effect of the implementation of AIT is an increase in both inflation rate and interest rate.Ph.D
Seeking Voices in Dark Places: The History of the Tennessee Asylum for the Insane
The public memory of former insane asylums across the United States has been forgotten by society. These former institutions have complicated histories that overshadow our community's conversation about mental health. The argument for this thesis is that the history of these institutions matters, and historians need to find meaningful ways to create meaningful connections between the past asylums to modern ideas about mental health.
This thesis highlights the institutional memory of the Tennessee Asylum for the Insane, which once stood in Nashville. This project unravels the institution's history that local historians have overlooked. By understanding the institutional history of the Tennessee Asylum and creating momentum for researchers to find more information about the site, the memory of all who had connections to the asylum will live on. This work will add to the history of mental institutions across the United States and finally allow the voices of mental health patients to be heard.M.A
Multiple Stories: Urbanism, Interpretation, and the Historic House Museum
Historic buildings are integral to telling the story of a place. Yet, the prevailing conversation around house museums in recent years has centered around the idea that these dwellings are no longer relevant. While the traditional “roped-off” period room house museum may be a trend of the past, these sites remain useful to understand a deeper history of a place.
My dissertation will focus on what historic house museums can mean for a community. Through adaptive reuse and community engagement, old homes can be powerful tools to educate the public and localize larger historical narratives. When a visitor takes a tour at a historic house museum, they learn not only about the people who lived on the property, but they can also absorb the changing physical and social landscape happening in the region. That synthesis is one of the key elements of contemporary interpretation.
The research presented in this dissertation examines five historic house museums in various stages of development. The John Henry Carothers House demonstrates how a black farmhouse can survive encroaching urbanism and provide a community with the story of farm work in the early twentieth century. The Burwell-Dinkins House disrupts the narrative of poor black southerners, showcasing a home that served physicians, musicians, Civil Rights activists, and educators in Selma, Alabama.
The Sadie Ford Heritage Farm serves as a comparison to the Carothers Farm; both are rural farmhouses in Middle Tennessee, but the Ford family were white farmers and educators. Their land has also faced encroaching urbanism, just like the Carothers house, where the physical changes to the landscape can obscure the important historical narrative. Two Rivers Mansion is the only antebellum property in this dissertation; the conversation is centered around enslaved labor and shifting interpretive strategies. The final case study, Cheekwood Estate and Gardens, also delas with the concept of obscured labor, this time in an early twentieth century home. The craftsmen who built the home and the domestic workers responsible for maintaining it will soon be a larger component of the interpretive conversation. These institutions are all examples of house museums and their need for more encompassing interpretation to tell a larger story, one that encapsulates the entirety of the historic landscape.Ph.D
Estimated Community Stigma Levels Toward Those Who Use Opioids in a Rural Tennessee County
One known barrier to opioid and drug use prevention, treatment, and recovery is stigma. Stigma toward those who use drugs is associated with poorer health outcomes and lower life expectancy. Addressing stigma at the individual, provider, and social levels requires understanding the domains of stigma present in a community to target anti-stigma messaging and campaigns. This project aims to describe the level of stigma in law enforcement, a provider, and the community at large and compare the two. A short 21-item Likert-scale (1 = strongly agree to 5 = strongly disagree) questionnaire was developed using previous literature on provider and social-based stigma with the domains of dangerousness, blame, social distance, fatalism, and various perceptions that people have toward those who use drugs. Law enforcement officers were provided an opportunity to answer the questionnaire during a training event in January 2022, while community members were provided an opportunity during the Wilson County Tennessee State Fair in August 2022. Law enforcement (N = 48) and community members (N = 393) differed in demographic makeup, where law enforcement was predominantly more male (77.1% vs. 37.9%), between 30 to 39 years old (35.4% vs. 26.5%), and whiter (91.7% vs. 76.6%). Mean scores within law enforcement in dangerousness (2.03 vs. 2.17), blame (2.48 vs. 2.81), social distance (2.41 vs. 2.73), and fatalism (3.19 vs. 3.31) were consistently worse (lower score = higher stigma). Overall, regardless of whether law enforcement or community-wide, stigma toward those who use drugs in Wilson County, TN is measurably present. Both community members and law enforcement providers have elevated stigma across each domain.M.P.H
Archéologie et Patrimoine: Telling the story of a B-17 crash in France through visual display
This project aims to commemorate a B-17G airplane crash that took place in France in 1944, to commemorate the impact this event has had on both American and French citizens, to acknowledge the ongoing recovery efforts being conducted in the field, and to represent those experiences in a respectful manner. Using a visual display and including historic information and artifacts collected at the crash site during archaeological recovery, this project details information about the crew, their mission, and how both French and American partners are currently involved in cooperative work. These visual elements, along with thoughtful research, highlight the importance of involving local communities in excavation
