    How Parental Reactions Differ Toward Early Stuttering: A Turkish Validation Study of the Responses to Speech Disfluency Scale

    Objective: The identification of parental reactions toward stuttering is significant in the assessment and intervention process of fluency disorders. Despite a growing body of research including parents of children who stutter, there is still a lack of instruments that assess parental reactions. This study aims to adapt the Responses to Speech Disfluency Scale into Turkish to make it available for use among clinicians including speech and language therapists, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals working with children who stutter. Methods: The sample included 49 mothers and 51 fathers (100 in total) who had children who stutter. The mean age values of mothers and fathers were 35.14 (standard deviation = 5.33) and 38.64 (standard deviation = 5.50) years, and their children who stutter were 67.46 months (standard deviation = 16.91). In the adaptation process of Responses to Speech Disfluency Scale, various validity and reliability analyses were conducted. The data were analyzed through Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Results: The findings showed that the reactions in the emotional domain were significantly greater among mothers than fathers (P < .05). There was a positive and significant correlation between domain and total scale scores (P < .001 for all domains). The Cronbach alpha and test–retest reliability values of the total scale demonstrated excellent reliability. Conclusion: The psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the scale show that it is linguistically and culturally appropriate to be used within clinical practice

    Basic theory of s-posets

    In this paper, we have established the notions of soft order relations and studied its basic structural properties. We give the concepts of soft maximum, soft minimum, soft maximal, soft minimal, soft infimum and soft supremum in any s-poset. Then, the concept of soft order preserving mapping is defined and given some basic results. Moreover, it has been shown that the topology derived from a soft partial order relation is a soft topology which will substitute as a soft version of Alexandroff topology in classical theory. With all that, we obtained the category SPOSET of s-posets, and constructed a functor which is called ostracizer functor between the categories SPOSET and POSET

    The present study aimed to examine the biological activity and cardioprotective potential of Trametes versicolor heteropolysaccharides (TVH) in a rat model of metabolic syndrome (MetS). This study included 40 Wistar rats divided into 5 groups: CTRL-healthy non-treated rats; MetS-non-treated rats; and H-TV, M-TV and L-TV-rats with MetS treated with either 300, 200 or 100 mg/kg TVH per os for 4 weeks. After finishing the treatment, we conducted an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), hemodynamic measurements and the animals were sacrificed, hearts isolated and subjected to the Langendorff technique. Blood samples were used for the determination of oxidative stress parameters, lipid status and insulin levels. We showed that α-amylase inhibition was not the mode of TVH antidiabetic action, while TVH showed a moderate inhibition of pathogenic microorganisms' growth (MIC 8.00 mg·mL-1; MBC/MFC 16.00 mg·mL-1). H-TV and M-TV significantly reduced the level of prooxidants (O2-, H2O2, TBARS; p < 0.05), increased antioxidants activity (SOD, CAT, GSH; p < 0.05), reduced blood pressure (p < 0.05), improved glucose homeostasis in the OGTT test (p < 0.05), and ejection fraction (p < 0.05) and cardiac contractility (p < 0.05) compared to MetS (p < 0.05). Moreover, TVH treatment normalized the lipid status and decreased insulin levels compared to MetS rats (p < 0.05). The obtained results demonstrated that the TVH may be considered a useful agent for cardioprotection in MetS conditions

    The neglect of nonnative orthopterans as potential invaders: A call for awareness

    Despite the potential ecological and economic impacts of invasive species, there is a dearth of data on the presence, impacts, and management implications of potentially invasive Orthoptera species. This lack of research and inconsistent data, including risk screenings and impact assessments, is especially evident in Europe. Consequently, assessing the status, distribution, and potential threats of nonnative Orthoptera in Europe remains challenging, impeding the development of effective management strategies. To address this gap, we call for increased efforts to collect and curate data on non-native and possibly invasive Orthoptera in Europe. Such efforts will improve our understanding of this order's invasion dynamics, facilitate the identification of priority areas for conservation, and support the development of effective management policies and preventive measures

    Determining the Perspectives of Restaurant Owners Towards the Ghost Kitchen Initiative: A Qualitative Research in Gaziantep

    Bu çalışma yeni bir fenomen olarak yükselişini sürdüren hayalet mutfak girişimini restoran işletmesi sahipleri ve yöneticilerinin bakış açısıyla değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu kapsamda 2015 yılında UNESCO tarafından yaratıcı şehirler ağına dâhil edilen Gaziantep ili araştırmanın evreni olarak belirlenmiştir. Destinasyonda faaliyet gösteren turizm işletme belgeli 23 restoran işletmesinden çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden 18’i araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. İşletme sahibi ve yöneticileri ile 6 açık uçlu soru üzerinden derinlemesine mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlar, hayalet mutfağın fiziki alandan bağımsız olmasının otantiklik ve üretici-tüketici iletişimi açısından önemli zayıflıklar içerdiğini göstermiştir. Bir diğer zayıflık ise tüm sürece ilişkin kalite algısının zamanında ve eksiksiz teslimat üzerinde şekillenmesidir. Tüketiciye ulaşım, reklam, kurumsallaşma motivasyonu ve fiziki yatırım maliyeti avantajı ise sistemin güçlü yanları olarak değerlendirilmiştir.This study aims to evaluate the ghost kitchen initiative, which continues to rise as a new phenomenon, from the perspective of restaurant business owners and managers. In this context, Gaziantep province, which was included in the creative cities network by UNESCO in 2015, was determined as the universe of the research. Of the 23 restaurant businesses operating in the destination with tourism operation certificate, 18 accepted to participate in the study and formed the sample of the research. In-depth interviews were conducted with the owners and managers of the business on 6 open-ended questions. The results obtained in the study showed that the fact that the ghost kitchen is independent from the physical space contains important weaknesses in terms of authenticity and producer-consumer communication. Another weakness is that the perception of quality regarding the whole process is shaped on timely and complete delivery. Access to the consumer, advertising, motivation for institutionalization and the advantage of physical investment are considered as the strengths of the system

    Development of a New Sensitive Method for Lead Determination by Platinum-Coated Tungsten-Coil Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

    A novel very sensitive and rapid analytical method was improved where gaseous lead formed was transported to and trapped on an externally heated platinum-coated tungsten-coil atom trap for in situ preconcentration. The analytical performance of the developed method with the graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS) method was compared. All critical parameters affecting the performance of both methods were optimized. The limit of quantitation (LOQ) was found as 11.0 ng L-1 and the precision was 2.3% in terms of percent relative standard deviation (RSD%). Characteristic concentration (Co) of the developed trap method was indicating a 32.5-fold enhancement in sensitivity compared to the GFAAS method. In order to investigate the surface morphology of the W-coil, scanning electron microscope-energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDS) analyzes were performed. The accuracy of the trap method was tested by certified reference materials: NIST SRM 1640a (the elements in natural water) and DOLT:5 (dogfish liver). Interferences from other hydride-forming elements were investigated. Application of the trap method was demonstrated by the analysis of some drinking water and fish tissue samples. The t test was applied to drinking water samples, and the results indicated that there was no statistically significant error

    Aerodynamic design and optimization of a small-scale wind turbine blade using a novel artificial bee colony algorithm based on blade element momentum (ABC-BEM) theory

    In this study, a novel optimization technique called the Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm based on Blade Element Momentum Theory (ABC-BEM) was developed and applied for the first time to design a small-scale wind turbine blade. Using the ABC-BEM, the aerodynamic geometry of a 1 kW small-scale wind turbine blade was optimized in terms of optimal chord length and twist angle distributions. The objective function used in the optimization study was the power coefficient, and the design parameters were the tip speed ratio, nominal wind speed, and the diameter of the rotor. Both experimental and numerical methods were used to investigate the aerodynamic performance of the optimized blades. Aerodynamic lift and drag coefficients were obtained experimentally for different low Reynolds numbers and angles of attack in a wind tunnel, while numerical simulations were conducted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with the Transition k-kL-ω transition model. A flow visualization technique known as a smoke-wire test was carried out to analyze the flow patterns on the blades. The study resulted that the new turbine designs were more successful than the reference turbine in terms of power output. The reference turbine produced 1 kW at a wind speed of 11 m/s, while the new designs produced the same power at 9 m/s. Additionally, the reference turbine reached a maximum power of 1.2 kW at 13 m/s, while the new designs reached a maximum power of 1.46 kW at 10 m/s. These results indicated the success of the Novel ABC-BEM algorithm in optimizing the aerodynamic performance of small-scale turbine blades. This study provided an innovative approach to wind turbine design optimization and a new insight into wind turbine design
