DIALECT VARIATION AND LEXICAL STRESS: AN IDIOLECTAL INQUIRY
Get PDFEver since Fry (1958) ranked the acoustic correlates of lexical stress as F0 \u3e Duration \u3e Intensity, a controversy has ensued. Some replication studies have agreed with Fry’s ranking, but others have not. It is quite possible that the divergent rankings of correlates may have something to do with dialect variation among the participants in various studies. The evidence for this claim comes from an in-depth study of Author 2’s pronunciation of 14 disyllabic words produced in running speech. Her ranking of the acoustic correlates of lexical stress as F0 \u3e Duration \u3e Intensity agrees with Fry but stands in contrast with the ranking of most her classmates who speak an Inland North Minnesota dialect that is different from hers. The investigation also shows that lexical stress rules are not as binding as formerly believed. Author 2’s pronunciations agreed with dictionary transcriptions 71.43% of the time. However, in the remaining 28.57% of instances, she produced some words with an iambic stress pattern even though dictionary transcriptions prescribe a trochaic stress

The purpose of this paper is to investigate two such issues, specifically orthographic and tense agreement mistakes produced by college-bound Somali students. The analyses reveal that phonological L1 transfers can affect orthography, while L1 syntactic structures interfere with tense agreements in complex sentences

Get PDFThe scope of this paper is purposefully limited to the 15 voice biometrics modalities discussed by Jain et al. (2004). The place of Voice within their classification scheme is reexamined in light of important developments that have taken place since 2010. Additionally, elements are added to Mayhew’s (2018) overview of the history of biometrics as an attempt to fill in missing gaps concerning Voice. All this leads to a reassessment of voice biometrics and how it relates to other biometric modalities. Speech segments that carry extremely high identity vector loads are discussed. The main assertion of this paper is that increased computing power, advanced algorithms, and the deployment of Artificial Intelligent have made voice biometrics optimal for use. Furthermore, the analysis of the compatibility among modalities, the estimation of inconvenience penalty, and the calculation of the arithmetic distances between various modalities indicate that the fusion of {Voice + Face}, {Voice + Fingerprint}, {Voice + Iris}, and {Voice + Signature} on the one hand, and of {Voice + Face +Fingerprint}, {Voice +Fingerprint + Signature} on the other, offer the best liveliness assurance against hacking, spoofing, and other malicious activities
An Attribute Analysis of Precontact Ceramics of 21MO20
Get PDFThe multicomponent site 21MO20 was partially excavated from 1982 to 1988 under the direction of Douglas Birk and the Institute for Minnesota Archaeology. While these excavations focused on the Fur Trade era fort at this site, numerous Precontact artifacts and features were also discovered. This Precontact assemblage includes a vast quantity of ceramic sherds, including the majority of four vessels and 11 other diagnostic specimens that span the Woodland tradition. A complete attribute analysis of these specimens provides invaluable data to not only begin to develop a culture history of the Precontact components of this site, but also creates a dataset to further our understanding of ceramic types of central Minnesota, many of which are poorly understood or defined

The Applications of Blockchain To Cybersecurity
Get PDFA blockchain is a decentralized public ledger facilitating secure transactions between untrusted network nodes. It has garnered significant recognition for its pivotal role in cryptocurrency systems, where it ensures secure and decentralized transaction records. Over the past decade, blockchain has attracted considerable attention from various industries, as it holds the potential to revolutionize multiple sectors, including cybersecurity. However, this field of study is relatively new, and numerous questions remain unanswered regarding the effectiveness of blockchain in cybersecurity. This research adopted a qualitative research design to investigate the current implementations of blockchain-based security and their applicability in the current cybersecurity context. Additionally, this work explored the mechanisms employed by blockchain to uphold the security triad. Findings indicate that blockchain exhibits substantial potential in addressing existing challenges in cybersecurity, particularly those related to the Internet of Things, data integrity and ownership, and network security. Nonetheless, widespread adoption faces limitations due to technological immaturity, high-cost complexity, and regulatory hurdles. Therefore, utilizing blockchain-based solutions in cybersecurity necessitates a thorough analysis of their applicability to an organization\u27s specific needs, a clear definition of implementation goals, and careful navigation of challenges
