Expressive writing is a term a lot of people do not recognize in its formal name, but it is a way of writing that some of us use without knowing it. Expressive writing is, as the University of New Hampshire says, “personal and emotional writing without regard to punctuation, verb agreement, or other technical aspects of writing” (UNH Tales). Examples of expressive writing are free writing, journals, diary entries, and more. The idea of expressive writing is cathartic and intimate, letting the writer write what is on their mind without having to worry about the rules of writing in academia

Business leaders reported stronger local results in the last St. Cloud Quarterly Business Survey. 31% said their business activity expanded over the summer, while 24% said it had declined. Hiring improved, with continuing strength in wages paid, capital spending and prices received for products. The future outlook is much murkier, with 41% saying their business activity would expand over the next six months while 28% it would decline. Four of the six elements of the St. Cloud Index of Leading Economic Indicators rose in the May-July 2023 period while two others declined. Two special questions determined that employers think their employees care most about pay and benefits, but employers are more concerned about employee engagement and retention

Challenges Faced with the Identification of English Language Learners in Special Education

    Get PDF
This study is vital due to increasing number of English Language Learners and the negative impacts that it has on families, students and educators. This study examines the policies and procedures used to evaluate and identify English Language Learners. This study further examines the challenges teachers are facing with the misidentification of English Language Learners in special education. This study also details the challenges students face with being misidentified as English Language Learners in special education. It examines at what grade level misidentification is most likely to occur and overall, why it is occurring. The results of this study will help early childhood educators be aware of ways in which they can partner with families when working with young English Language Learners and minimize the misidentification of English Language Learners in special education

Disparities in Behavioral Expectations for Elementary Students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders Compared to their Classmates

    Get PDF
Educators often view students with emotional and behavioral disorders as students who cause disruption, require generous amounts of energy, and are overall taxing on classroom management and instruction. The perception of effort that EBD students require and their potential achievement, downplays the true potential of the individual. The main focus of this paper was to examine the disparities in behavioral expectations for students with emotional behavioral disorders in comparison to their classmates

Developing Blind-Bidding Auctions to Explore Fully Homomorphic Encryption

    Get PDF
In blind-bidding auctions, determining the winner requires processing bids without revealing non-winning bid information. This study explores the use of Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) as a solution for this challenge. FHE permits operations like addition and multiplication on encrypted data, enabling potentially arbitrary computations without exposing underlying values. However, leveraging FHE for blind-bidding auctions is not straightforward. Classic sorting algorithms are not directly applicable due to FHE’s constraints. This thesis presents our approach to designing a blind-bidding auction using FHE, focusing specifically on determining the maximum bid within the given computational boundaries

A Preliminary Exploration of Methods for Evaluating and Teaching Skills Required for Providing a Culturally Responsive Service

    Get PDF
A culturally responsive approach to providing behavior-analytic service emphasizes rapport-building, inclusivity of diverse populations, social validity, respect for individuality, and practitioners\u27 need to reflect on their own cultural biases. Based on behavior-analytic literature, how to measure and evaluate these skills and teach future practitioners remains unclear. Self-evaluations might be a quick, resource-efficient, and suitable tool for the maintenance of skills throughout a practitioner’s career. In this preliminary study, a non-concurrent multiple baseline design across participants was used to evaluate the effectiveness of a treatment package with self-evaluation on increasing skills related to cultural responsiveness. Emerging results indicate participants consistently scored themselves higher on using culturally responsive skills using a self-evaluation form compared to the researcher’s data. Implications, next steps, and limitations for evaluating skills related to cultural responsiveness and teaching skills for using a self-evaluation are discussed
