The Speculative Nonfiction Memoir
Nonfiction memoir writing has generally been the linear telling of an individual’s life experience. However, in recent years, authors have re-imagined this genre, weaving in aspects of fictional expression to create a lived experience of their world, moving backward and forward in time; creating poetry and imagined realities designed to transport their reader to another place and time, in step with the author’s emotional journey. Writing such as this is designed to create a shared space, invoke feelings of discombobulation, as well as the uncertainty of what could be coming next—a sensation many people experience as they are carried forward on the wave of life
St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Report, Vol. 26, No. 3
The St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Survey found business experienced only slightly better results than in May. More businesses reported decreasing business activity this summer. Small layoffs were reported along with less capital spending. Nevertheless, steady employment, rising wages and rising prices are expected into early 2025. In special questions, a quarter of survey respondents said their firms were impacted by the Crowdstrike outage
Using Tact Training to Teach Clinicians Environmental Awareness
Workplace violence is a pervasive issue in human service fields, including applied behavior analysis, where instances of such violence are significantly underreported in the literature. Professionals in this field often work with children with autism spectrum disorder who may exhibit challenging behaviors, such as physical aggression. This study aimed to employ a variation of tact training combined with signal detection theory to teach clinicians in an autism clinic to be more aware of their environment to enhance safety. Clinicians were trained to verbally identify primary (immediate) and secondary items that could pose a risk if a client escalates during a session, while avoiding overtraining and mislabeling non-threatening distractor items. Although all three participants reached mastery criteria across four different training scenarios, their behavior did not generalize at similar levels, suggesting that the training did not exert functional control over their attending. The implications for extending this research are discussed
Investigating Feedback Delivery Skills through Self-Monitoring
Abstract
Feedback has been shown to be the most effective component of the behavior skills training. Immediacy of feedback delivery allows for the accurate tact of the performance from the trainee. Isolating this component may be an effective method in training supervising or trainer employees to provide corrective feedback that includes essential components including a rationale, pausing, asking open-ended questions, paraphrasing, and displaying empathy. Self-monitoring checklists decrease cost, and provide guidance to have meaningful feedback sessions. A nonconcurrent multiple baseline across participants was used to evaluate the effectiveness of dense and intermittent feedback on increasing participants’ self-monitoring accuracy scores on a feedback delivery checklist. Results indicated that dense feedback increased participants’ self-monitoring accuracy score and fidelity scores during role-play sessions. Generalization was present for some participants. Limitations and future implications of procedural effectiveness are discussed
Designing Personality-Based Chatbots Analyzing User Interaction Patterns and Evaluating User Experience
Nowadays, artificial intelligence is becoming more and more popular all over the world in different fields. Scientists have worked with great passion for combining artificial intelligence with physical healthcare, natural disaster defense, accessible e-learning, and emotional healing (Zárate-Torres & Correa, 2023). What individual personality traits, identified through the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) affect interactions with chatbots is also one of the hot topics (Hogan, 2007). This research explores whether diverse personality types of experience chatbot communication differently and how chatbot design can be improved to meet the need for this variation. The purpose is to improve user engagement and satisfaction. The research combines some interesting literature reviews, user interviews, and a comparative usability study to test the relationship between personality traits and user chatbot interactions. By using a qualitative approach, it shows that users’ personality traits significantly influence their preferences and interaction patterns with chatbots. Meanwhile, this research has limitations. The sample size is small, short-term interaction is not long enough to monitor chatting results. However, it helps people believe that user-centered chatbot responses based on the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) can improve user satisfaction and engagement
Towards a Comprehensive Understanding: An Inquiry on Generative AI, Learning Inequalities and Civic Responsibility.
Artificial Intelligence has been around for quite some time, but recently, it has taken impressive leaps in its capability to revolutionize human-machine interaction. Naturally, discussions on its societal impact are becoming more prominent. Generative AI tools have a unique capability of interacting with people that no other technology had before. Within academia, the discussion of how AI tools are to be implemented in learning classrooms are also getting traction, with a major concern of preserving academic integrity. Historically, diverse students have faced many challenges of inequality in classrooms and theorists like Paulo Freire and Sonia Nieto have long argued for the need of a more inclusive and critical curriculum that focuses on empowering marginalized students and reversing oppressive power dynamics. However, the discussion of how generative AI can reinforce language discrimination and perpetuate the existing marginalization of diverse students in higher education learning environments is still highly unexplored. By looking at the history of language discrimination in education and the marginalization of diverse students, the current discussions of algorithmic bias and AI’s potential for discrimination, as well as data gathered from a mixed-method study with higher education students; this research aims to start a conversation on the impact of generative AI as a learning tool on deepening inequality for diverse students and perpetuating existing power asymmetries and oppressive systems that extend well beyond the classroom
Cybersecurity Risks for Professional Services Firms: Assessing Vulnerabilities, Proposing Innovations, and Safeguarding Client Trust
Professional services organizations face growing risks related to cybersecurity in the connected digital world of today, which could seriously jeopardize their business operations and clientele. To minimize evolving cyber risks, professional services organizations must implement strong cybersecurity safeguards. This study highlights the significance of taking proactive actions in this regard. This study establishes the main obstacles that professional services organizations must overcome through an exhaustive examination of the literature and an analysis of cybersecurity risks such as ransomware, malware, phishing, and social engineering.
Proactive cybersecurity measures are suggested by the research, such as team collaboration, clear client communication, and strategic alignment with business objectives. The influence of improved cybersecurity measures on client trust and the general integrity of professional services organizations is also examined in this study. Results show that increasing cybersecurity protocols is positively correlated with increased client trust, underscoring the significance of cybersecurity as a strategic enabler.
The study\u27s conclusion emphasizes the necessity of adopting cutting-edge technologies to improve threat detection and response capabilities, as well as ongoing cybersecurity practice adaption to handle new threats. In summary, this paper is a call to action for professional services organizations to include cybersecurity into their organizational culture to protect confidential data and build client confidence in an ever-more complicated digital landscape
