    The Law of the Kingdom

    No full text
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!” Isaiah 9:6-7, NLT

THE EQUALITY AND SUBORDINATION OF JESUS TO THE FATHER: A CRITIQUE OF THE ETERNAL FUNCTIONAL SUBORDINATION OF CHRIST IN VIEW OF THE KENOTIC PRINCIPLE IN PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11

ABSTRACT OF GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH Thesis Southern Adventist University School of Religion Title: THE EQUALITY AND SUBORDINATION OF JESUS TO THE FATHER: A CRITIQUE OF THE ETERNAL FUNCTIONAL SUBORDINATION OF CHRIST IN VIEW OF THE KENOTIC PRINCIPLE IN PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11 Name of the researcher: Willem A. Oosthuizen Name and degree of faculty adviser: Hyunsok John Doh, Ph.D. Date completed: May 2024 In Philippians 2:5-11, Paul encourages the Church to model the humility of Christ, as demonstrated by Jesus\u27 kenosis during the incarnation. Recently, this passage has become a source of debate on the issue of Jesus\u27 position and His relationship to the Godhead, based on the kenosis of Christ during the incarnation. Did Christ become functionally subordinate to God in the kenosis, or has He ontologically been eternally subordinated (EFS) to God? The answer impacts Christology and Christ\u27s divinity, with the danger of leaning either towards Arianism or Tritheism. This thesis explores the form and structure of the text, the Greek background and terminology Paul used to describe the actions of Christ, and the arguments resulting from the subordination of Christ to God: Whether it be an eternal functional subordination (EFS)as held by Wayne Grudem, Bruce Ware and others, or a temporary functional subordination during the incarnation as held by Fee, Peckham, Erickson, Gilbert Bilezikian and others. The implications of these views have practical and theological implications not only for Christology, but also for the mission of the Church and the role of women in ministry. After briefly evaluating the literary form of the text and the perceived influence of hymnic theory on Pauline authorship, the emphasis shifts to the ontological essence of Christ’s position and relation to God. The exegetical analysis of the terms μορφή (form) of God and Jesus, who came in the σχῆμα (likeness) of man, in the emptying of Himself, will be evaluated. The biblical-theological approach is applied to minimize any possible human presuppositions and critical assumptions about the text. The statements of E.G. White are included to provide a perspective on the Adventist background regarding the equality of Christ with God. The proponents of the EFS assert that their view is essential to avoid any form of Tritheism by stating that each member of the Godhead is assigned a unique ontological functional role. The temporary functional subordination view in reply asks why Christ had to experience the kenosis if He was already ontologically subordinate to God. The key text of 1 Cor. 15:24-28 for the EFS view is theologically examined to show that the context does not imply an EFS view. The conclusion reached is that the kenosis does not support an EFS view, as the terminology and context of the passage render it incompatible with eternal subordination. It favors a functional temporary subordination instead

Area of a Circle by Rearranging Wedges

    No full text
The area of a circle is cut into wedges which are then rearranged to form a parallelogram-like figure, animating the derivation of the formula for the area of the circle from the foundational ideas of Archimedes and the later contributions of Leonardo da Vinci. The number of wedges is user selectable, and the animation can be paused at any stage. As the number of wedges increases, the area approaches that of the actual parallelogram, shown to be (r)(πr) = π r^2

Integrity First: Redefining the Future of Senior Care Referrals Through Entrepreneurship Project*

    No full text
Consumers seeking Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) face significant challenges due to an overwhelming abundance of options, inherent conflicts of interest, and unethical business practices within the industry. These obstacles often result in consumers having to invest considerable time and effort in research or risk making uninformed decisions. Our solution is a user-friendly web app that emphasizes a pleasant user experience. We implemented a recommendation process that matches user needs and preferences with the most suitable ALFs. We maintained practices free from conflicts of interest, clearly communicating how and why ALF recommendations are made

Formation and Stability of Alkenyl Cations from 3-Cyclopenten-1-ol in Acidic Media

    No full text
This presentation explores the formation and stability of alkenyl cations from 3-cyclopenten-1-ol in sulfuric acid, using UV-Vis spectroscopy to analyze kinetic behavior, reaction mechanisms, and spectral characteristics across varying acid concentrations

ShellSim: Hands-On Practice Through Virtual Simulation

    No full text
This presentation introduces an interactive Linux shell learning tool designed to enhance student engagement through a simulated virtual terminal. The tool provides a hands-on environment where users navigate a dynamically generated file system, complete structured problem sets, and practice essential shell commands. By integrating randomized file system structures and problem-based learning, the platform helps students develop practical command-line proficiency. The presentation covers the tool\u27s architecture, key features, and its role in improving Linux education. Additionally, we discuss implementation challenges, pedagogical benefits, and potential future enhancements to further support learners in mastering command-line operations effectively and intuitively

Grading Under Authority: An Ethical Approach to Milgram\u27s Obedience Study

    No full text
Obedience to authority remains central to psychological research, particularly in ethical decision-making. This study ethically replicates Milgram’s experiment in an academic context. Students are briefly trained and instructed by an authority figure to grade a fabricated student’s paper more harshly, enabling the analysis of compliance and resistance under authority. Behavior is analyzed across two conditions: when participants are given authoritative grading instructions and when they grade independently. Participants’ justifications and perceptions of authority and ethics are also examined. Findings may enhance understanding of authority’s impact on decision-making and obedience dynamics in education, while maintaining modern ethical standards in psychological research

Group Additivity Determination in UV-vis Spectra and Computational Calculations of Lambda Max Values*

    No full text
Computational software will be used to calculate lambdamax for a series of homologous compounds. The accuracy of lambdamax would be compared to known values, and patterns would be searched for. Calculations would be done using WebMo and Gaussian, and calculated UV vis spectra would be analyzed to label compounds with lambdamax. Chemical compounds from previously published work would be verified computationally to identify UV vis spectra
