Fairy Tales in Relation to Monster Theory: Stories Defining the Transformation of Culture
Get PDFFairy tales are stories that are defined and shaped by the cultures they are told within, lending them naturally fluid forms as the societal boundaries of each generation and change and expand. This research paper explores certain fairy tales under the lens of Monster Theory and the Seven Theses proposed by Jeffery Jerome Cohen from his introductory essay “Monster Culture (Seven Theses).” Through careful analysis and dissection, this paper offers a deeper look into the nature and construction of monsters and reveals the purpose monstrosity serves in society other than just to frighten. By delving into the insights proposed by Cohen, mapping the history of fairy tales, and tracking the multiple version of the fairy tale researched that exist throughout time, this paper provides readers a swath of evidence that exposes monsters as the reflections humanity attempts to separate itself from, but can never truly escape

Poetry expresses a relation of the self to the world, and so it is both outlet and introspection. Being fascinated by this connection of inner and external, I hope this commentary and creation project will show the interdependency of the two. Poetry is a unique process; it is necessarily vulnerable and honest, connecting the writer and reader to the external world in a way that prose would find difficult to articulate
Performance Comparison of Operations in the File System and in Embedded Key-Value Databases
No full textA common scenario when developing local PC applications such as games, mobile apps, or presentation software is storing many small files or records as application data and needing to retrieve and manipulate those records with some unique ID. In this kind of scenario, a developer has the choice of simply saving the records as files with their unique ID as the filename or using an embedded on-disk key-value database. Many file systems have performance issues when handling large number of small files, but developers may want to avoid a dependency on an embedded database if it offers little benefit or has a detrimental effect on performance for their use case. Despite the need for benchmarks to enable informed answers to this design decision, little research has been done in this area. Our contribution is the comparison and analysis of the performance for the insert, update, get, and remove operations and the space efficiency of storing records as files vs. using key-value embedded databases including SQLite3, LevelDB, RocksDB, and Berkeley DB
A Better Way to Educate for Disaster Preparedness

Advance planning, implementation, and preparedness are necessary for effective crisis response (Cowan & Rossen, 2013; Goodrum et al. 2018). The CDC (2019) emphasizes that high levels of uncertainty and complexity are part of any crisis response. Incorporation of simulation into pre-licensure/pre-certification education provides an opportunity for future healthcare workers to engage in life-like scenarios and gain practical knowledge in a safe. intentional, and orderly environment (Pinar, 2015).
Methods
This mixed method design utilized Google Forms as the online platform to collect the data from the high school, baccalaureate, and master’s students, along with community volunteers. The URL and QR code was made available to participants following the “hot wash” debrief. The data populated Google Sheets, descriptive statistics were conducted on the quantitative data while thematic analysis was conducted on the qualitative data. All data was anonymous and password protected.
Results
The majority either strongly agreed or agreed that they felt more comfortable responding to a disaster. The majority either strongly agreed or agreed that they were better prepared to respond to a disaster following the simulation.
Implications
As Educators it is our opportunity to equip the Next Generation of Educators to be able to implement something better. As SDA Educators it is our responsibility to train and equip students to be prepared to respond should the need arise. We know that in the end-times there will be disasters of unforetold magnitude and the Next Generation needs to be prepared and ready to respond
