Structural identification of cyclohexyl hydrogen sulfate with 60 MHz NMR
This research establishes a method to structurally identify cyclohexyl hydrogen sulfate using a 60 MHz NMR spectrometer. The study leverages 96% sulfuric acid as a catalyst and reactant to enhance the stability of carbocation, facilitating detection of cyclohexyl hydrogen sulfate via NMR. By examining the NMR spectra, this work not only improves our understanding of NMR sensitivity but also contributes to the broader knowledge of carbocation behavior under acidic conditions

Harry Nelson Living Memoirs Interview
Harry, a Southern alumnus, shared his experiences as a student missionary and how they influenced his personal growth and professional journey. He reflected on his time serving overseas in the late 1960s, teaching and participating in outreach efforts that introduced him to new cultures and ways of life. These early experiences contributed to his long-term interest in service and health care. After college, Harry pursued a medical career with a focus on women’s health, eventually spending several years practicing abroad before returning to the U.S. He spoke about the role of faith in his life and work, his interest in mental and preventative health, and the value of supporting mission work in a variety of ways.
*Content Warning: This interview includes references to graphic medical conditions, historical violence, and traumatic childbirth experiences. Listener discretion is advised.
Borneo, the third-largest island in the world, is located in Southeast Asia and is politically divided among Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. Known for its diverse ecosystems, Borneo features tropical rainforests, rugged mountains, and rich biodiversity, including endangered species like the orangutan. The island is home to a mix of ethnic groups and traditional communities, many of whom maintain indigenous cultural practices. Religious life in Borneo is varied, with Islam, Christianity, and indigenous animist beliefs all represented, reflecting the island\u27s cultural and national diversity.

Rare Earth Element Concentrations as a Novel Proxy for Lateral Continuity: An Initial Case Study in the Cretaceous Lance Formation of Wyoming
Abstract
Identifying stratigraphic continuity across outcrops can sometimes be difficult, especially if they are dominated by discontinuous strata. Therefore, stratigraphers continue to seek new proxies for testing stratigraphic continuity, including fossiliferous horizons. We present a case study examining the potential of fossil bone trace element signatures as a novel proxy for lateral continuity. Specifically, we performed trace element analyses of Edmontosaurus bones from the Neufeld Quarry at Hanson Ranch (HR) in Wyoming, a stratigraphically verified lateral equivalent of the famous HR Bonebed exposed nearby in five “Main Quarries”, to evaluate if these chemical data would independently lead a researcher to the same conclusion of lateral equivalency. Bones from the “Main Quarries” and Neufeld were found to exhibit similar patterns of trace element alteration, including comparable magnitudes of enrichment, spatial patterns of rare earth element uptake, and proportions of specimens exhibiting various styles of diagenetic alteration. Many bones from both sites also exhibit redox signatures indicative of trace element uptake under reducing conditions. These numerous similarities in geochemical alteration patterns independently indicate that the fossil horizon at Neufeld is a lateral continuation of the nearby HR Bonebed. Our findings thus demonstrate the power of trace elements toward identifying laterally equivalent fossil assemblages
Tracking General Education Assessment Artifacts in Moodle - Reporting in PowerBI
Assessing General Education outcomes through specific assignments in an LMS (e.g. Moodie) reduces extra reporting load on professors and allows for automated data collection and aggregation. We will report on the key components of our process, as well as challenges faced in the multi-year effort to develop and implement automated assessment tracking. Collaboration with faculty and the expertise of our student employees have both been vital to the success of our data collection and reporting. The first version of a PowerBI report for use by both academic departments and administration will be demonstrated
