The Basics of Tensegrity and Its Application at the High School Level

    No full text
Tensegrity refers to a structural concept where components under compression are contained within a network of continuous tension, resulting in a self-stabilizing system with high resilience and efficiency. It has been found to be applicable to the system of living cells, engineering, human anatomy, and even the structure of atoms and molecules. My research project aimed to construct an experimental and educational model that quantifies the tension on a three-string tensegrity system using force sensors and a steel frame. The project was extended to create a physics lab on tensegrity suitable to a high school level audience. The main results will be presented in this poster

    Game-Based Engagement Management System

    No full text
The use of games in learning contexts is called game-based learning (GBL) and has been found to positively affect learner engagement. Although there are several standalone gamified apps, they are not game-based engagement management systems. Also, there are learning management systems with gamification support. However, these tools do not have a focus on gamifying the education process. Other tools have gamified features, but they do not have immersive, game-based interfaces. These platforms use gamification, but are not, ultimately, game-based. Due to these limitations, our contribution is a game-based management system to improve student engagement through the use of storytelling, character customization, badges, scoreboards, and other interactive activities. This paper presents the technical overview of the GBL platform. Also, two software modules are explained, namely activity and character modules
