Evaluation of a Workshop to Improve Professional Transitions Among Nursing Students and Nurses
Get PDFNew nurses and nurses experiencing a professional transition often regress through Benner\u27s novice to expert stages and are at risk for transition shock and crisis (Murray et al., 2019). New graduate nurses experience challenges adjusting to their new roles, but educational and organizational factors can help provide support during this time of transition (Baharum et al., 2023). Simulation experiences can enhance students\u27 confidence and help prepare them for practice (Woods et al., 2015). Situational and personal factors influence the professional development and retention of new nurses (Laschinger et al., 2016). Many new nurses struggle with adjusting to the profession and suffer exhaustion and stress (Liang et al., 2018). Lack of support and preparation can negatively impact the transition process (Kumaran & Carney, 2014). Previous studies identified interventions that eased the transition process and had a positive impact on satisfaction and retention (Hampton et al., 2020; Kaihlanen et al., 2019). Marcdante et al. (2020) provided guidance to individuals as they experienced a role transition from undergraduate student to medical student to resident to physician. A workshop was developed based on Schlossberg\u27s theory of adult transition to help support nurses during a time of professional transition. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a workshop to prepare undergraduate nursing students, graduate nursing students, and professional nurses for an upcoming professional transition. A one-hour workshop was developed and delivered to three audiences: undergraduate students, doctor of nursing practice students, and attendees at professional conferences. During the workshop, attendees completed the professional transition blueprint. Attendees were invited to complete a short survey at the conclusion of the workshop. The participants reported overall satisfaction with the workshop as well as a significant decrease in anxiety and stress at the conclusion of the workshop. This workshop was an effective strategy to help individuals prepare for a professional transition. A significant limitation was the low response rate (30%) and total number of completed survey responses received (n = 68). Nurse educators and leaders can use a similar workshop to help nursing students and nurses prepare for a professional transition. Attendance at a professional transition workshop and completion of a professional transition blueprint may help reduce transition shock and attrition. Mali is a country in West Africa with a rich history, known for its ancient cities like Timbuktu, which was once a center of trade and learning. The country is mostly covered by the Sahara Desert in the north, but the Niger River in the south brings water and supports farming. Mali is home to a variety of ethnic groups, and music and storytelling are important parts of its culture.

Thailand is famous for beaches, historical landmarks such as the Grand Palace and Ayutthaya, and the culinary scene.

Silent Cycles: Unveiling 19th-Century Perspectives on Menstruation, Women\u27s Agency, and Societal Transformations
Get PDFIn the 19th century, menstruation was a topic often vieled in silence and misinformation. Nonetheless, it is pivotal in discussions on women\u27s agency and societal shifts. This paper explores 19th-century medical perceptions, the dissemination of reproductive knowledge through women\u27s publications, and a case study of Adventist health publications. Through primary source analysis, this paper reveals how access to medical knowledge empowered women, especially in pursuing higher education. Additionally, examination of Adventist health publications showcases alternative remedies to menstrual disorders, granting women control over their reproductive health. This study illuminates the intersection of menstruation, women\u27s agency, and societal change, emphasizing the role of medical knowledge in challenging norms and promoting gender equality
The relationship between religiosity and diet among undergraduate students at Southern Adventist University
No full textOne of the unique teachings of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is the health message. This important teaching suggests that a person’s physical and spiritual health are connected such that good physical health improves one\u27s spiritual health. This is why Seventh-day Adventists have historically promoted the avoidance of tobacco and alcohol and encouraged a more plant-based, vegetarian diet. Because of this, we hypothesize that greater religiosity among Seventh-day Adventists is associated with more plant-based diets. This study will use a survey-based, cross-sectional design to examine this relationship among undergraduate students at Southern Adventist University
