Visualizing Chattanooga’s Freeway Accidents: An Interactive Dashboard Built on US National Laboratory Data*
Despite the availability of a freeway accident dataset collected by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), there is no interactive visualization of the data that is easily accessible to the public. Consequently, the local community\u27s awareness of accident trends is very limited. The contribution of this research project is a dashboard that allows the visualization of traffic accidents patterns in Chattanooga, Tennessee, using datasets from national laboratory researchers. By creating an interactive web dashboard with animated and color-mapped geographical map, the project seeks to enhance community awareness of accident trends

Cycles in Grid Graphs and Toroidal Variants*
A grid graph is an integer lattice with edges between adjacent vertices. We show that there exists a Hamiltonian path on a 3-dimensional grid graph exactly when all the dimensions are even. Then we take up three topological variants, forming toroidal grid graphs by identifying opposite faces of the grid graph, either identifying one, two, or all three pairs of opposite faces. In these settings, we determine the parity of a cycle’s length that exists on the toroidal grid graph in terms of the dimensions of the graph and the number of times the cycle passes through each pair of identified faces. This allows us to exhibit examples of Hamiltonian cycles in toroidal grid graphs
Influence of Physical Appearance vs. Interview Skill Within the Hiring Process
This study investigates how interview performance and attire affect recruiting decisions, especially with a focus into whether professional attire skews HR assessments independent of an applicant\u27s competence. For the foundation of our study, we looked at earlier studies on the what is beautiful is good stereotype and appearance-based prejudice. The participants of the between-subjects experimental design of the research project will view one of the four pre-recorded interview conditions varying by dress (professional vs. casual) and interview performance (strong vs. weak). Afterwards, participants will grade the candidate on their apparent professionalism, competency, and their best fit for the imaginary company. It is hypothesized that the candidate who dresses professionally will get much better ratings—even if their interview performance is poor—highlighting the possibility of appearance-based prejudice in hiring policies. Based on the data collected, we will use the results of this study to inform more fair employment policies by uncovering how clothing may replace objective criteria in performance assessments
The Effects Employment Has on Students GPA*
University students who are employed are faced with the high demands that come with having a job. This is a possible reason as to why their GPAs are declining. This correlational study explores the impact employment has on the academic performance of Southern Adventist University undergraduate students. We gathered participants from departments around campus including Psychology, Nursing, Visual art and design, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Allied Health, Physical Education and Kinesiology, Culinary Arts, Modern Languages, etc. Findings show that there was a decrease in the GPAs of students who worked 20 hours or more during the week. It also showed that depending on the work related to their major, a student may have a higher GPA and academic performance. This study implies that the employment of Southern undergraduate university students will have an impact on their GPA

Analyzing the Strength of the Amine Bond of Guanine: A computational approach*
The deamination of guanine is an event that can cause single point mutations. In this study, the strength of the amine bond was examined using DFT and B3LYP to map out the bond’s potential curves under conditions of various charges being imposed on the molecule. Such an approach yielded a few potential curves that do not exhibit the expected behavior and rather, show a drop in bond potential energy with increasing bond distance. This aspect of the bond behavior is thought to be associated with the fact that the bond investigated is prone to breaking
