Backfire: How the Rise of Neoliberalism Facilitated the Rise of The Far-Right
Get PDFSince the election of President Donald Trump in 2016, it is indisputable that there has been a notable rise in the visibility and activity of the far-right in the United States. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there was a 30% increase in the number of operating hate groups across the United States, a number that has coincided with the rise of the Trump campaign and his subsequent election as President of the United States.1 Therefore, much attention has been drawn to the rise of these movements and thus scholars have sought to seek out and identify the root cause of these movements and what can be done to prevent them. One of the most compelling and popular explanations for the rise in the far-right is that it has emerged as the result of decades of neoliberalism as the dominant form of economic ideology across the globe. This paper will examine the debate as to the cause of the increase in the far-right, specifically in regard to the role of neoliberalism, and will ultimately argue that neoliberalism acts as a parsimonious explanation for the rise in the far-right and has created the conditions for the rise in far-right groups
Decision for Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Based on Indications for Previous Cesarean Deliveries
No full textIn previous times, a mother who had a cesarean section would be advised that all future deliveries must be c-sections as well. However, there is now the possibility of having a vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC). VBAC is a great option to reduce the risks associated with a c-section surgery. Determining which patients would be good candidates for VBAC should be based on several factors such as the reason for her previous c-section. Complications in the previous delivery that led to a c-section can be classified as recurrent or non-recurrent complications. Mothers with a history of c-section due to a non-recurrent complication has much higher rates of successful VBAC because these complications may not occur again in future deliveries. There are also several absolute contraindications to VBAC, which should always be addressed with patients considering having a vaginal delivery after a c-section. Providers should weigh the risks and benefits of VBAC for each patient on an individual basis based on the complications that led to their c-section and how many recurrent or non-recurrent complications they have experienced

By evaluating these changes and their potential cardiac effects, providers will be able to properly counsel patients on proper use before workouts along with the benefits and risks that come with it

It has been used for centuries for its hallucinogenic properties both recreationally and for religious rituals dating back to the Aztec Indians. In modern day, it has been theorized to produce psychoactive effects on the brain, making it a potential psychopharmaceutical modality to help amplify the effects of psychotherapy in the treatment of a myriad of psychological pathologies such as major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more. This article seeks to summarize the proposed mechanism of action of psilocybin on the brain, discuss the psychosocial factors that go into psilocybin treatment and analyze the current research being done to investigate this promising new treatment for various mental health disorders
The Manipulation of Female Participants: Onision and Participatory Culture Theory
Get PDFWith the rise of the Internet and constant sharing comes new ways of interacting with people both as audience members and content creators. Because of this, it has now become increasingly easier to connect with and manipulate people through a screen, especially if one is in a position of power of the other—such as a creator and an audience participant. This paper takes a look into a content creator and his manipulation of certain audience members and the ways in which these audience members were made vulnerable. To do this, first there must be a breakdown of the theory in which this paper will be connecting the manipulation of female audience members to this creator.
By looking at Henry Jenkins’ Participatory Culture theory, connections can be made between the ways audiences interact with content and how content creators can take advantage of these interactions and use them to their own advantage. This paper will explore this through the specific example of Onision and his history of grooming and abuse controversies.
This connection seems to show that because young female audience members tend to latch onto certain older male creators, these older men can curate their content in such a way to target their insecurities and cater their content to them in a way that separates them from the rest of the world. Not only this, but older male content creators can also use this to shape the ways in which they interact with their audiences
The impact of geopolitical risks on price variation and political trust in France: analyzing the Ukraine-Russia conflict
Get PDFGeopolitical risks (GPRs) have varied consequences over countries and over time. COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine are some of the recent GPRs. The conflict in Ukraine has had far-reaching economic consequences, not only for the countries directly involved in it but also for their trading partners and allies, and on the global economy in general. France, as one of Ukraine and Russia\u27s major trading partners, has also felt the impact of the conflict on its economy. Using data from the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), the paper investigates the impact of GPRs caused by the war in Ukraine on price variation and citizen trust in France. The article conducts a multilinear regression analysis on datasets going back from immediately after the financial global crisis until the first quarter of 2023, with the war in Ukraine still ongoing. Results show that GPRs strongly affect the rise of prices of different products from oil products to food, beverages and other industry products, the association varying from strong to moderate. GPRs are also positively related to a reduction in citizen trust. The relationship between war and price, on the one hand, and the association between war and decrease in trust on the other, is confirmed by robustness checks
Hopeful Oscillation: Metamodernism, Barbenheimer, and Our New Cultural Undercurrent
Get PDFRecent societal changes have pushed artwork and media away from postmodernism as a dominant cultural philosophy. In its place has risen a new theoretical approach, titled Metamodernism, which attempts to discover the meaning behind present day art and media’s strengthening affective qualities, and provide a possible label for this new post-postmodernist state. This is not only an important attempt at understanding the society we live in today but also its broader impact on how we communicate through media. This paper explores the rise of Metamodernism as a theoretical approach within media studies and philosophy, including the term’s inception and growing popularity. After establishing the theoretical background, it explores its applications within film specifically, establishing a framework for the classification of film and television as “Metamodernist” before examining Metamodernism within the context of Barbie, Oppenheimer, and the Barbenheimer social phenomenon using an established set of Metamodernist criteria. This background and ultimate application of the term allows us to see how our current society is impacting our media and vice versa, as well as the broader impact of this new Metamodernist era

Approaching Vaccine Hesitant Patients Following the COVID-19 Pandemic
No full textCOVID-19 spread across the globe in March of 2020 and forcefully changed healthcare and the perception of medicine forever. While childhood immunizations were recommended to continue by government officials, many parents delayed or canceled well-child visits and most outpatient clinics had to reduce appointments to account for social distancing. Prior to the pandemic vaccine hesitancy was on the rise, and vaccine preventable diseases such as measles, mumps, and pertussis began to emerge throughout communities across the United States. The pandemic only worsened public opinions regarding vaccination. The development of COVID-19 vaccines introduced conspiracy theories regarding vaccination and subsequently divided the country amongst political parties. It is critical for healthcare providers to understand not only previous vaccine controversies, but new vaccine concerns following the pandemic. This article addresses vaccine history, vaccine hesitancy, and is meant to function as a guide to aid healthcare providers in leading vaccine conversations with patients and guardians of patients
