Introduction: Family court review special issue dynamic pedagogy in the family and juvenile law classroom: Experiential and in-class exercises

Over the last number of years, the legal academy has placed increasing emphasis on the need to diversify teaching methods, and in particular, has focused on expanding in-class, experiential teaching methods. Educational research confirms that learning experientially has multiple benefits for adult learners, including better retention of material, the ability to explore a more diverse range of representation contexts, the development and use of a broader range of analytical skills, and an emphasis professional collaboration and growth.1Consistent with this evolution of the scholarship on teaching and learning in law school, ABA Standard 303(a)(3) requires all students to complete“ one or more experiential course(s) totaling at least six credit hours.”2This growing recognition has increased demand for experiential learning courses and clinics at law schools, and presents opportunities for innovative teaching and com-munity partnerships. .

Only libertarianism can provide a robust justification for open borders

This paper argues that libertarianism—and only libertarianism—can vindicate immigration\u27s status as a human right whose protection is morally required in nearly all circumstances. Competing political theories such as liberal egalitarianism fail to rule out significant immigration restrictions in a range of realistic conditions. We begin by outlining the core tenets of libertarianism and their implications for immigration policy. Next, we explain why arguments that appeal to alternative principles are unable to provide robust justification for open borders. We conclude by considering whether our argument vindicates libertarianism or undermines open borders

Red Wolf Reintroduction: Land Ownership and Protection Status Analysis

    Get PDF
Red wolves (Canis rufus) are critically endangered, and currently the only wild population exists in northeast NC (“Red Wolf,” FWS, n.d.). Here, I use geospatial analysis to investigate the potential for another wild population to establish in the Delmarva Peninsula. I consider land ownership and protection status because these factors influence local public support (Nie, 2001; Naughton-Treves et al., 2003; Berger-Tal et al., 2020), as well as reintroduction success (Carroll et al., 2003; Wolf & Ripple, 2018). I compare the ownership and protection status of land in the Delmarva Peninsula to that in the Albemarle Peninsula, where the red wolf recovery program is generally considered successful, despite the recent decline in the red wolf population due to illegal killings, vehicle strikes, and interbreeding with coyotes (“Red Wolf,” FWS, n.d.). The results of this study could be used to inform biologists, conservationists, and politicians in their search for a new reintroduction site for red wolves. Paper prepared for the Environmental Studies Senior Seminar/Geography Capstone. Faculty Advisor: Dr. Peter Smallwood
