Accessible Vehicle for Kids
Get PDFThe purpose of this document is to outline the process of developing a Go Baby Go vehicle for use by children with disabilities who experience limited or delayed mobility. The purpose of the project is to adapt the Wild Thing, a 12V commercially available ride-on toy car, so that young children with limited mobility can have similar opportunities to independently and actively explore their world for participation, play, learning, and engagement like their same-aged peers. The motivation for undertaking this project is to create a safe and universally designed form of active mobility for children who do not have access to a power wheelchair due to the lack of availability of appropriate products and funding sources for children with disabilities. The original design of the Wild Thing has two joysticks which can be moved by pushing the joysticks either both forward to go forward, both backwards to go backwards and one forward and one backwards in order to spin left or right. Because of this original design, children with limited mobility could have a difficult time navigating the Wild Thing platform. In order to meet this need, the vehicle will be redesigned to support varying options to control the vehicle. These include a single joystick, head array buttons, or hand-pushed buttons. Dependent on the child’s needs, these options can be chosen from, and implemented as the user sees fit. An app will also be utilized that allows control of the vehicle through the use of directional buttons and an emergency stop button. The app will also have the ability to log the usage data of the vehicle. This document contains the design aspects and process of this project

Intrigued by the quantity and quality of one particular Twitter account, I wrote some codes so a small Arduino computer would follow a single person’s Twitter account.
The computer was wired to a small thermal printer and prints out each and every Tweet in real time.
During the four-year period between 2018-2021, the author wrote 24,047 tweets.

No full textOne-Child Policy Propaganda: An Analysis of How Chinese Propaganda Depicts and Reconstructs Female Identity
Get PDFThe following study works to gain a better understanding of the reconstruction of female identity through the communications and depictions in propaganda of China’s one-child policy. With this in mind, a critical discourse analysis was conducted of 22 propaganda ads from the era of the one-child policy. With the communication theory of identity serving as a framework, three themes emerged from this analysis; propaganda depicts a forced identity, responsibility, and gender stereotypes. This research reveals the need for more public images that make less stereotypical generalizations and an understanding that social influences as public as propaganda can affect the reconstruction of identity to fit the expectations as portrayed
Authentic Leadership as an Antithesis to Teacher Burnout
Get PDFThe purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to develop a new framework for the burnout equation and to examine the relationships which exist among three key factors; teacher burnout, psychological well-being at work, and authentic leadership. Participants in the study included 335 Canadian teachers, 299 of which were from the province of Alberta. The majority of the participants (81%) were classroom teachers, while the remaining participants held specialized positions like counsellor, learning coach, or administrator. Participants filled out a survey containing three instruments: the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction at Work (BPNS-W) scale, and the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ). The survey ended with an optional qualitative question, “Is there anything you would like to add about teacher burnout and your work experience?”
An independent samples t-test revealed the factors of burnout, authentic leadership, and basic psychological needs were significantly different between two subgroups: those who were exhausted and those who were not. Competence stood out with t(333) = 7.89, p \u3c .01 which has an effect size of 0.40 and a Cohen’s d of 0.87. Since each quantitative variable was significantly different between the two subgroups, this suggested that basic psychological needs and authentic leadership were important pieces of the burnout equation. The findings also suggest the relationship between burnout and authentic leadership was mediated by the psychological needs. Coding of the answers from the qualitative question pointed toward inclusion as the current job demand which is burning out teachers.
This study can serve as guidance to school divisions regarding the hiring and training of leaders in the area of authentic leadership. This research also offers critical direction for government policy in terms of funding for education. It is imperative that funding must be in place to support teachers in their work with special needs students
