The Refutation and Affirmation of Gender Roles in Disney\u27s 2017 \u3cem\u3eBeauty and the Beast\u3c/em\u3e
My writing process began with research. I looked into what topic I would like to discuss in relation to our project requirements of analyzing a fairytale movie. I knew that I wanted to dissect Disney\u27s 2017 Beauty and the Beast movie so I moved forward with research on traditional gender roles that are present in the movie. Throughout my writing process I was able to receive feedback from my peers about each section of my writing. After a rough draft was finished I went back and reworked a couple paragraphs to make it flow better. I finished by submitting to the Write Place and fixing suggestions that I received from them
President Grant: Ordinary Corrupt Politician or Extraordinary American President?
At the beginning of the semester, I decided to analyze the historical conversation of the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant for my ASI 120 Historiography. To start my research, I collected relevant sources, from historians, that cover Grant’s presidency from multiple decades dating back to the 1930s. Then I wrote an annotated bibliography, where I read and articulated the main argument of each source to highlight the author’s contribution to the historiography, while also examining their evidence to determine the distinctive qualities of their work. I also created three different categories of interpretation and placed each historian’s perspective of Grant into the appropriate category. After this I developed a draft of my historiography, based off of my annotated bibliography, that details how the historical narrative changed over time due to the historical moment of each category. In the latter part of my paper, I argued which group’s interpretation was the most accurate, based off their evidence and reasoning. I was able to finalize my paper through the feedback I received from my professor and a peer review

These works together present an overarching tapestry constructed from the intersecting threads of historical representations of Mary. The weft threads knit together to offer new visions of Mary as they crisscross over and under the warp threads of historical iconography, symbolism, and artistic expression.

Student-led Video Podcasting in a Chemical Behavior of Materials Course
Video podcasts, or vodcasts, are a form of podcasting that combines video and audio to deliver various types of educational content effectively. To our knowledge, very few studies have focused on student-produced podcasting for learning technical engineering concepts. This study explores using student-created technical videos in a course on the chemical behavior of materials through three separate assignments. The first assignment centered on sustainability aspects. Students, divided into groups of three, were tasked to review two influential journal articles on plastic waste input into the ocean and metal recycling. Each group had to prepare and deliver a technical script about the topic discussed. Using the script, videos were recorded in a podcast studio located in the learning and teaching center at the University of Dayton (UD). The video recordings were then shared with the students. Two supplemental podcasts featured a guest from the Hanley Sustainability Institute, discussing recycling efforts and initiatives at the UD, and a second podcast guest speaker hosted a discussion on current trends in semiconductors. Both recordings were given to the students to provide examples of delivering technical content through a podcast. The second assignment required students to individually produce narrated videos about materials characterization techniques, such as X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction. Each student was given 20 – 25 minutes to explain their chosen characterization technique\u27s technical aspects and applications. The third assignment involved a one-on-one podcast session experience, where each student, acting as a guest, discussed with the instructor—the host—a material of interest along with its chemical behavior and structure-property relationships. To support the research process, an engineering librarian provided guidance on effective strategies for searching technical content through the UD library resources and databases. Brief surveys were administered to assess student perceptions of this learning method, and the results are discussed in this study. Ultimately, this study shows an alternative approach to enhancing student engagement and technical learning by producing podcasts and technical video content
