    New records of five species of black flies (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Myanmar, with descriptions of the male and pupa of Simulium chanyae

    Five species of black flies are newly recorded from Myanmar: Simulium (Gomphostilbia) gombakense Takaoka & Davies, S. (G.) siamense Takaoka & Suzuki, S. (Simulium) chanyae Takaoka & Choochote, S. (S.) nigrifacies Datta and S. (S.) tani Takaoka & Davies (complex). This increases the number of species of black flies from Myanmar from 23 to 28. The male and pupa of S. (S.) chanyae are described for the first time. The pupa of this species is characterized by having the wall-pocket-shaped cocoon without anterolateral windows, separating it from most other species of the Simulium multistriatum species-group

    Simulium chayamaritae Takaoka & Srisuka from Thailand belongs to the Simulium darjeelingense species-group of Simulium (Simulium) (Diptera: Simuliidae). The female of this species is described for the first time based on a female reared from a pupa collected from Chiang Mai, Thailand. It is characterized by the sensory vesicle elongate and the inner margins of the arms of the genital fork divergent, then convergent apically. It is similar to the female of S. eshimai Takaoka & Adler of the same species-group from Vietnam. Taxonomic notes are given to separate it from two other species of the S. darjeelingense species-group from India and Malaysia, and 28 of 31 other species of the subgenus Gomphostilbia recorded from Thailand

    As a key facet of sustainable development, environmental, social and governance (ESG) discretion on stock market investment decision is gaining prevalence following the global financial crisis. ESG considers the sustainable return, risk reduction, and accountability aspects of investments. This study is an exploration of the individual stock market investors' preferences for ESG issues and the influence that purpose of investment has on investment decision-making, by testing the investment horizon as a moderator. The theoretical background was taken from the theory of planned behavior (TPB), goal setting theory (GST), and the behavioral asset pricing model (BAPM). The study uses the sequential mix method of research, starting with an interview followed by a survey, which was conducted among individual stock market investors in Bangladesh, using simple random sampling. Structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis was carried out using Warp PLS version 6.0. The key findings of this study delineate the effect of ESG issues and the purpose of investment on investment decision-making. The contribution of the study signifies the moderating role of the investment horizon, which confirms the importance of the long-term horizon as a time and risk diversification factor. The sparse utilization of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) (2004) and Thomson Reuters Corporate Responsibility Index (TRCRI) (2013) as measurement scales in this study is mentioned.     Effect of different irradiance levels on bioelectricity generation from Algal Biophotovoltaic (BPV) Devices

    The exploitation of renewable energy sources for delivering carbon neutral or carbon negative solutions has become challenging in the current era because conventional fuel sources are of finite origins. Algae are being used in the development of biophotovoltaic (BPV) platforms, which are used to harness solar energy for bioelectricity generation. In photosynthesis, a very small amount of solar energy absorbed is transformed into chemical energy while the rest is wasted as heat and fluorescence. This energy can be harvested through biophotovoltaic (BPV) platforms to generate electrical power. During photosynthesis, algae consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen, while producing biomass. One of the most important parameters that affect photosynthetic performance of algae is light. Overexposure to light causes photodamage of Photosystem II and impedes electron shuttle from the algal cells to the anode of the BPV devices. In the present study, we studied the effect of varying irradiance levels on the efficiency of our BPV platforms. Algal biofilms were grown from suspension and alginate-immobilized Chlorella sp. (UMACC 313) cultures on ITO-coated glass anodes. The BPV devices were illuminated by four different irradiance levels (30, 90, 150 and 210 μmol photons m-2 s-1) to investigate the effect of different irradiance levels on the power output of the devices. Our prototype Algal Fuel Cell produced maximum power densities of 0.377 mWm-2 from suspension cultures at 90 μmol photons m-2 s-1 and 0.456 mWm-2 from immobilized cultures at 150 μmol photons m-2 s-1. The lowest power output from immobilized cultures was recorded at 210 μmol photons m-2 s-1, thus suggesting that the algae were already experiencing photo-induced stress and partial photoinhibition had occurred at high irradiance level

    Effect of thermal interaction between bulk GaN substrates and corral sapphire on blue light emission InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells by MOCVD

    The InGaN/GaN multi-quantum wells, growth on bulk GaN substrate were studied for blue light emission. Growth temperature plays a key role determining the peak wavelength of a quantum well. The study was carried out by growing quantum wells, MQWs on the whole sapphire at 716 °C and observed peak wavelength at 463 nm. While the bulk GaN substrate with sapphire corral grown at 703 °C and observed a blueshift at 433 nm peak wavelength. These results contradict that of typical observation of wavelength emission inversely proportional to the growth temperature. On the other hand, the growth of GaN-sapphire and GaN-silicon at similar conditions emits 435 nm and 450 nm respectively. The heat interaction of bulk GaN substrates surrounded by the sapphire corral exhibits different growth conditions in multi-quantum wells when compared to that of a whole sapphire substrate (absence of bulk GaN). The predicated surface temperature of bulk GaN substrate is 10 °C–15 °C of more than the corral sapphire. This observation may link to the difference in the thermal distribution of the growth surface corresponding to the different thermal conductivity ratio.     Synthesis of active absorber layer by dip-coating method for perovskite solar cell

    In this paper, we develop the hybrid perovskite-based n-i-p solar cell using a simple, fast and low-cost dip-coating method. Hot solution and the pre-annealed substrate are used for coating the perovskite thin film by this method this is further used for studying its structural and electrical properties. UV–vis spectroscopy is carried out for calculating the band gap of the hybrid perovskite layer which is ∼1.6 eV. X-ray spectroscopy confirms that the formation of hybrid perovskite layer. The profilometer is used to study the surface roughness and also for measuring the thickness of the perovskite layer with varying substrate temperature. The optimized sample was further used for cross-sectional SEM image to verify the thickness measured from the profiler. The electrical parameter of JV characteristic with varying temperature is tabulated in the table. Whereas, the perovskite sensitized solar cell exhibits highest short circuit current density, Jsc of 11 mA cm−2, open circuit voltage, Voc of 0.87 V, fill factor of 0.55 and efficiency, η of >5%

    Social Internet of Things (SIoT) is a specialized form of adaptive networks, where any change in one node can affect other nodes in the network. Millions of devices, including vehicles, buildings, healthcare, industries, and several other types of devices, share and exchange sensitive data among each other. Interconnection of these devices changes the paradigms of the world around us and puts a great effect on the overall society. The number of nodes, types of devices, layout of the overall network, and sensitivity of the data adds more and more complexity in the domain of SIoT. In this paper, our contribution is twofold, first, we provide a brief and comprehensive overview of the social aspects of the IoT by selecting the most recent papers to investigate the complexity, adaptivity, and other social aspects of the IoT and their implications. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the benefits of IoT to the society, social acceptance of IoTs, and social connectivity of different age groups. Second, we forecast the future trends and predict the world in the year 2020. We provide a detailed analysis by using several different data tables to present the future trends of different aspects of SIoT. With this survey, we aim to provide an easy and concise view of different challenges in implementing SIoT and how it will affect the future smart cities and overall impact on the society

    Transformation of political elite as regime changes in Pakistan

    Burton and Higely [(2001). ‘The study of political elite transformations’, International review of sociology/Revue internationale de sociologie, 11(2): 181–199] argue that when elites of a society are not united this will lead to an unstable political regime. Consensual elite cohesion is only created through distinctive elite transformation. This essay attempts to elaborate their argument in Pakistan, by developing a link among a continuous regime shift from authoritarian to democratic governments and the political elites who keep transforming their structure accordingly. The technique followed for it is analysing the epochal events over time from pre-partition till date which became reason for regime transformations. The discussion focuses on the collusions and contestations of multiple power elites within given social context which are embedded under the international context. It concludes that political elites in Pakistan were always embraced by multiple other power elites who accordingly hold dual elite identity to control the command post in the political arena. Such complex elite structure makes it paradoxical to distinguish political elite of Pakistan from other power elites of Pakistan
