Promoting deoxygenation of triglycerides via Co-Ca loaded SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 catalyst
Triglycerides and fatty acid derivatives can be converted to hydrocarbon-grade green diesel that are entirely fungible to the fossil fuels. In the present study, deoxygenation (DO) process of triolein was studied by using mesoporous SiO2-Al2O3 supported Co-Ca catalyst. The presence of active metals (Co-Ca) showed high DO activity exclusively via decarboxylation/decarbonylation (deCOx) pathways with maximum hydrocarbon n-(C8-C20) yield of 73%, and high selectivity of n-C15 and n-C17 fractions. This results suggested the acid-base active sites of catalyst provide selective deCOx pathway of triglycerides structure. In additional, the presence of high surface area of Co-Ca/ SiO2-Al2O3 enhance the metal dispersion for better accessment of large molecular reactant with catalyst during DO process. An optimum Co metal content (10 wt.%) for deCOx reaction was observed, while an excess Co content is not preferable due to tendency of cracking effect. The efficiency of Co-Ca/SiO2-Al2O3 was investigated by using non-edible feedstock (e.g. Ceiba oil and Sterculia oil) along with catalyst stability study were carried out. Resulst also indicated that degradation of DO activity was due to the formation of coke
Using multi-attribute decision-making approaches in the selection of a hospital management system
The most appropriate organizational software is always a real challenge for managers, especially, the IT directors. The illustration of the term "enterprise software selection", is to purchase, create, or order a software that; first, is best adapted to require of the organization; and second, has suitable price and technical support. Specifying selection criteria and ranking them, is the primary prerequisite for this action. This article provides a method to evaluate, rank, and compare the available enterprise software for choosing the apt one. The prior mentioned method is constituted of three-stage processes. First, the method identifies the organizational requires and assesses them. Second, it selects the best method throughout three possibilities; indoor-production, buying software, and ordering special software for the native use. Third, the method evaluates, compares and ranks the alternative software. The third process uses different methods of multi attribute decision making (MADM), and compares the consequent results. Based on different characteristics of the problem; several methods had been tested, namely, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), Elimination and Choice Expressing Reality (ELECTURE), and easy weight method. After all, we propose the most practical method for same problems
Development and validation of the malay premature ejaculation diagnostic tool (MAPET): A two-phase study
Introduction: A validated diagnostic questionnaire is needed in the South-East Asia region, particularly in Malaysia to detect Premature Ejaculation (PE). The objective of this study was to determine the linguistic validity of the Malay Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (MAPET). Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a teaching hospital. The first phase involved experts' group discussions to develop the face, content, and factorial validity of the MAPET. The second phase measured the concurrent validity of MAPET. Results: We found that the MAPET has specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 79.3%, 92%, 76.7% and 93.1%, respectively in the assessment of PE. The higher score indicates severity of PE. Conclusions: MAPET is a valid self-report instrument for the assessment of PE
Social Media Recommender Systems: Review and Open Research Issues
In recent years, different types of review systems have been developed with the recommender system (RS). RSs are developed based on user textual reviews, ratings, and comparative opinions. RSs for social media resources, such as blogs, forums, social network websites, social bookmarking websites, video portals, and chat portals help users to collaborate effectively. Social media resources are used in the RS for recommending contents, articles, news, e-commerce products, and users. Although research on social media in RSs has increased annually, comprehensive literature review and classification of these RS studies are limited and must, therefore, be improved. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the social media RS on research articles published from 2011 to 2015 by exploiting a methodological decision analysis in six aspects, including recommendation approaches, research domains, and data sets used in each domain, data mining techniques, recommendation type, and the use of performance measures. A total of 61 articles are reviewed among the initial 434 articles on RS research published in Web of Science and Scopus between 2011 and 2015. To accomplish the aim of this paper, a comprehensive review and analysis was performed on extracted articles to explore various recommendation approaches which are used in the RS. In addition, various social media domains are identified, where RSs have been employed. In each identified domain, publicly available data sets are also reported. Furthermore, various data mining techniques, recommendation types, and performance measures are also analyzed and reviewed in technical aspects. Finally, potential open research directions are also presented for future researchers intended to work in social media RS domain
Fault detection in a grid-connected photovoltaic system using adaptive thresholding method
In this paper, an adaptive monitoring scheme with Fuzzy Logic Filter (FLF) is developed and applied to monitor a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System (GCPVS). This method is based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Moving Window Principal Component Analysis (MWPCA). It is designed to generate adaptive thresholds for its monitoring indices. The FLF filters the monitoring indices to reduce the number of False Alarms (FA) and increase the Fault Detection Rate (FDR). The application is carried out on the GCPVS of the Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Research Laboratory (PEARL) of Malaya University. The proposed technique is compared against PCA method in terms of FAR reduction. The detection ability of the adaptive thresholding with FLF monitoring scheme is tested first on simulated faults then it is applied to detect a real abnormal behaviour. The results show that the proposed method is effective in reducing the number of false alarms and in detecting different types of faults with high accuracy
Spectral detection of graphene and graphene oxide with SU-8 based asymmetry tripled-Arm Mach Zehnder
This paper reports the experimental application of the fabricated SU-8 based triple arm Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) in the detection of graphene and graphene oxide. A standard MZI has two arms in its structure. In our design, we combine two MZIs with different dimensions together in a way that a short arm MZI replaces one longer arm of the larger MZI. The parallel connections of the two MZIs with a common arm would enhance the overall sensitivity of the sensor. The measurands graphene and graphene oxide with almost similar refractivity has been applied to sensing arms of the MZI in separate steps. The equidistance picometric spectral shifts corresponding to each measurands over the operating wavelength of 1550 nm are observed and is suitable for detection of graphene and graphene oxide
Channel resolution enhancement through scalability of nano/micro-scale thickness and width of SU-8 polymer based optical channels using UV lithography
This paper reports on an approach for fabrication of micro-channels with nanometer thickness achieved by optimization of UV lithography processes. Rectangular micro-channels with a staple edge are fabricated over the surface of a silicon wafer substrate in which a sub-micron layer of diluted SU-8 thin film has been coated. The optimization of the process parameters includes the duration of a two-step pre- and post-baking process, UV exposure dosage, and finally chemical developing time with constant agitation. This produces recipe produces micro-channels with high contrast edges and thickness below 100 nm. The dimensions achieved using this approach has potential applications in sub-micron optical waveguides and nanoelectromechanical (NEMS) devices
Visible Wireless Communications Using Solitonic Carriers Generated by Microring Resonators (MRRs)
Optical wireless communications (OWC) using soliton pulses in the visible range (600 nm) have been presented. Filtering the input Gaussian spectrum is performed via the microring resonators (MRRs), where the range of 499.25 THz to 500.05 THz frequency band could be generated. The MRRs are simulated using InGaAsP/InP semiconductor with InGaAsP core having refractive index of 3.31 surrounded by InP (n = 3.18). In this research, ten soliton pulses having FSR of 8 GHz were generated at the drop port within the range 499.61 to 499.69 THz frequency band. Here, the generated carriers from the MRRs are modulated with the optical transmitter output which is a laser with extinction ratio of 10 dB and linewidth of 10 MHz utilizing a Mach–Zehnder modulator as an intensity modulator based on an interferometric principle. The frequency and time domain of the transmitted ten soliton carriers through the transmission link are presented as well as the eye diagram
Irradiation effects on electrical properties of DNA solution/Al Schottky diodes
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has emerged as one of the most exciting organic material and as such extensively studied as a smart electronic material since the last few decades. DNA molecules have been reported to be utilized in the fabrication of small-scaled sensors and devices. In this current work, the effect of alpha radiation on the electrical properties of an Al/DNA/Al device using DNA solution was studied. It was observed that the carrier transport was governed by electrical interface properties at the Al–DNA interface. Current (I)–voltage (V) curves were analyzed by employing the interface limited Schottky current equations, i.e., conventional and Cheung and Cheung’s models. Schottky parameters such as ideality factor, barrier height and series resistance were also determined. The extracted barrier height of the Schottky contact before and after radiation was calculated as 0.7845, 0.7877, 0.7948 and 0.7874 eV for the non-radiated, 12, 24 and 36 mGy, respectively. Series resistance of the structure was found to decline with the increase in the irradiation, which was due to the increase in the free radical root effects in charge carriers in the DNA solution. Results pertaining to the electronic profiles obtained in this work may provide a better understanding for the development of precise and rapid radiation sensors using DNA solution
Use of E-Learning by University Students in Malaysian Higher Educational Institutions: A Case in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
This paper examines university students' intention to utilize e-learning. In this paper, we apply and use the theory of a technology acceptance model. We employ the structural equation modeling approach with a SmartPLS software to investigate students' adoption process. Findings indicate that the content of e-learning and self-efficacy has a positive impact and substantially associated with perceived usefulness and student satisfaction, which impact university students' intention to utilize e-learning. Although e-learning has gained acceptance in universities around the world, the study of the intention to use e-learning is still largely unexplored in Malaysia. The developed model is employed to explain the university student's intention to utilize e-learning. The study concludes that university students in Malaysia have positive perceptions toward e-learning and intend to practice it for educational purposes
