Quetiapine Induced Agitation in A Hospice Veteran: A Case Report
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that is used in many clinical scenarios; it has been approved and has shown to be effective in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar symptoms. Additionally, it has several off-label uses, including the treatment of insomnia. In this case report, an elderly veteran was given quetiapine as a sleep aid. After the first dose, he demonstrated severe agitation. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there have been limited reports of this reaction. Although there are limitations to this case report, it serves as a cautionary lesson when prescribing a medication like quetiapine and to consider alternatives when available
Ocular Metastases in Breast Cancer: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Diagnosis and Management
Breast cancer is a globally prevalent malignancy with diverse clinical presentations. Understanding metastatic sites like ocular tissues is vital due to their impact on prognosis and treatment strategies. Ocular metastases from breast cancer, though rare, can contribute significantly to metastatic cases. They can even serve as the first sign of advanced disease, highlighting the need for vigilance. This study utilized a comprehensive literature review to analyze ocular metastases in breast cancer. Cases were examined for time intervals between initial diagnosis and ocular metastasis. The review also assessed manifestations during systemic progression. Methods included patient data analysis, literature synthesis, and case presentation. The analysis showed that 40.4% of patients identified ocular metastasis as their initial sign of advanced breast cancer. Patients exhibited varying time intervals between diagnosis and ocular metastasis, underlining the unpredictable nature of progression. Furthermore, 59.5% developed ocular metastases during systemic progression. This emphasizes the importance of considering ocular symptoms for both early and advanced stages. Breast cancer ocular metastasis presents unique challenges and requires a multidisciplinary approach. This case report illustrates the complexity of diagnosis and treatment. Ocular symptoms, even ocular migraines, should raise suspicion of metastasis. Collaboration among specialists, advanced imaging, and tailored therapies are crucial for accurate staging and treatment. Continued research and multidisciplinary efforts are vital for improved patient outcomes
Factors that influence small mammal long bone morphology: An analysis of the femora, tibiae, and humeri of the eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)
The goal of this study is to examine the effect of urbanization and latitude on bone morphology, specifically limb length and bone density among gray squirrels endemic to the eastern United States. This study’s hypotheses are as follows: gray squirrels occupying lower latitudes will have larger body sizes and longer limbs relative to body size than those at higher latitudes following Bergmann’s and Allen’s rules. Further, squirrels in urban habitats will have greater bone density than those in rural habitats. Results show moderate correlation between body mass and respective proxies and latitude following Bergmann’s rule. Weak correlations were found between standardized bone length and latitude following Allen’s Rule. Bone density data did not reveal a positive correlation with urbanization, but cortical bone area did. This study advances our understanding of how changing climate, human development and expansion influence the bone morphology of wildlife
A Legacy of Feminism and Advocacy: An Interview with Dr. Lenore Walker
Dr. Lenore Walker is a pioneer in feminism and trauma counseling. Her contribution to these fields is vast, including topics of gender violence, battered woman syndrome, child abuse and trauma, false confessions of battered women, sex and human trafficking, and psychology and the law. Her theories and conceptualizations have shaped how providers approach trauma-informed care and the assessment of trauma survivors. Moreover, her work has spanned a variety of functions such as a clinician, researcher, educator, advocate, leader, consultant, and mentor. For the purposes of this article, Dr. Walker engaged in an interview to discuss her career, contributions, legacy, and the future of trauma counseling. During this interview, Dr. Walker shared what influenced her career and how she forged paths in uncharted areas. She provided insight into the importance of strength-based interventions, increasing prevention efforts and essential counseling skills when working with trauma and abuse survivors. Additionally, Dr. Walker discussed some of her experiences working with the legal system and recommendations for providers whose work overlaps with the criminal justice system to gain proficiency in forensic mental health assessment. Given her role in cross-cultural counseling, Dr. Walker reflected on how culture can influence the identification and treatment of gender violence. Finally, she reviewed the development and evolution of battered woman syndrome, assessing and treating trauma across the lifespan, and how to cope with working in a challenging field

AI-Driven Solutions Promote Medication Adherence
A study conducted in 2019 showed that approximately 50% of the 187 million patients in the US health care system did not follow their medication plan as prescribed. This means they failed to adhere to the drug regimen or to take the medication for the entire prescribed duration. Adherence rates for most medications used to treat chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, usually fall in the range of 50% to 60%, even with patients who have good insurance and drug benefits. This rate of adherence leads to an estimated 125,000 avoidable deaths each year and $100 billion annually in preventable health care costs. The World Health Organization identified economic, social, health care, patient, provider, and therapy-related factors for nonadherence. However, medication nonadherence is not considered a significant issue by most practicing physicians. Medication Adherence Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are valuable tools for predicting medication adherence for various conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, for which AI has been shown to achieve 70% to 80% accuracy in identifying nonadherent individuals
