The COVID-19 pandemic had a drastic impact on the wellness of college students. In this study, researchers examined levels of stressful events, perceived stress, and resilience in a sample of 312 students at a Southeastern university. Students demonstrated a high volume of stressful events, lower levels of resilience, and high levels of perceived stress. The combination of stressful events and resilience explained a significant amount of the variance in perceived stress. Implications are included

    No full text
The Purpose Organizational goals and workplace productivity are negatively impacted by communication breakdowns and conflict. Communication persistence is an important factor in reducing such breakdowns and misunderstandings. The goal of the study is to determine factors that predict an individual’s intention to persist in communication in the workplace. Rationale: The major predictions of the study include the following: H1: Attitudes toward communication persistence will be positively correlated with behavioral intentions to continue dialoguing, H2: Perceived social norms about communication persistence will be positively correlated with intentions to continue dialoguing, and H3: Perceived behavioral control about communication persistence will be positively correlated with intentions to continue dialoguing. The Theory of Planned Behavior is the main theory the study is framed through. The Procedures: The data for this study will be collected via an online questionnaire using Qualtrics with 40 questions and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The survey will measure attitude, social norms, perceived behavioral control, and intention of the participants regarding communication persistence in the workplace. Participants will be recruited from social media and Marshall University. An on-line consent form will be used. The data will be kept confidential and stored with the co-investigator until the end of the study when the data will be stored with the PI. The Risks and Potential Benefits: Identification of factors that determine communication persistence would benefit the productivity, morale, and organizational culture of the workplace. There is minimal risk for participating in the study. Complete Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria Participants must be at least 18 years old or older who are employed

Management of Cryptogenic Stroke Secondary to Large ASD with Percutaneous Occluder Device and Antiplatelet Drugs

    Get PDF
Atrial septal defects (ASD) represent the most common congenital heart disease diagnosed in adult population and can present with variable clinical findings. Recent literature emphasizes the importance of management of ASD especially if it is associated with structural right heart changes such as RV dysfunction, right ventricular enlargement, arrythmias or paradoxical embolism. The decision between medical therapy versus surgical closure of ASD is a common clinical conundrum especially in the setting of cryptogenic stroke

Ogilvie\u27s Syndrome: Acute Colonic Pseudoobstruction. A Review for Residents.

    Get PDF
Ogilvie\u27s syndrome (acute colonic pseudoobstruction) was first described in 1948. Acute colonic pseudoobstruction can occur in a variety of clinical settings, including postsurgical, obstetrics, pelvic surgery, critical care and sepsis. Clinicians need to recognize the syndrome early. Colonic distention without evidence of obstruction can be seen on plain films of the abdomen or CT scan. Successful therapies, including bowel rest, neostigmine and colonoscopic decompression, have been used. Avoiding respiratory compromise from abdominal distention and colonic perforation of the primary goals of treatment. Surgical intervention should be reserved for patients who are refractory to medical treatment or develops signs and symptoms of colonic ischemia or perforation
