How to Think Like a Computer Scientist: C++ Version
The goal of this book is to teach you to think like a computer scientist. I like the way computer scientists think because they combine some of the best features of Mathematics/ Engineering/ and Natural Science. Like mathematicians/computer scientists use formal languages to denote ideas (specifically computations). Like engineers/ they design things/ assembling components into systems and evaluating trade offs among alternatives. Like scientists/ they observe the behavior of complex systems/ form hypotheses/ and test predictions. The single most important skill for a computer scientist is problem-solving. By that I mean the ability to formulate problems/ think creatively about solutions/ and express a solution clearly and accurately. As it turns out/ the process of learning to program is an excellent opportunity to practice problem-solving skills. That’s why this chapter is called “The way of the program.”https://mds.marshall.edu/oa-textbooks/1530/thumbnail.jp
MIPS Assembly Language Programming using QtSpim
There are a number of excellent/ comprehensive/ and in-depth texts on MIPS assembly language programming. This is not one of them. The purpose of this text is to provide a simple and free reference for university level programming and architecture units that include a brief section covering MIPS assembly language programming. The text assumes usage of the QtSpim simulator. An appendix is included that covers the download/ installation/ and basic use of the QtSpim simulator. The scope of this text addresses basic MIPS assembly language programming including instruction set usage/ stacks/ procedure/function calls/ QtSpim simulator system services/ multiple dimension arrays/ and basic recursion.https://mds.marshall.edu/oa-textbooks/1629/thumbnail.jp
Introduction to Philosophy: Philosophy of Mind
Introduction to Philosophy: Philosophy of Mind surveys the central themes in philosophy of mind and places them in a historical and contemporary context intended to engage first-time readers in the field. It focuses on debates about the status and character of the mind and its seemingly subjective nature in an apparently more objective world.https://mds.marshall.edu/oa-textbooks/1670/thumbnail.jp

Life and Dating During COVID-19
The overarching goal of this study is to investigate whether college students are abiding by CDC guidelines regarding Coronavirus, from attending events to mask wearing to dating. There are two main purposes of the research. First, I would like to examine hookup culture during COVID-19. Secondly, I would like to provide Marshall University administrators with information concerning student behavior during a pandemic. This study offers a more in-depth look at college student’s thoughts and behaviors during the coronavirus pandemic and whether or not participation in it is stronger than the fear of a catching COVID-19. I will use SPSS software for data analysis which will allow me to determine if there are any significant trends between students’ thoughts about Coronavirus and their behaviors. Data collection will be obtained by an online anonymous survey that will be completed by Marshall Students. Once the participants have given consent, filled out the online survey, and submitted it each survey will be collected and used for research
How Covid-19 Has Affected Homeless Populations in Japan
The purpose of this paper is to see how Covid-19 has changed homeless persons’ lives in Japan and possible solutions to the new problems that have arisen. Common ways of preventing spread of Covid-19, such as wearing masks, frequent hand washing, and avoiding groups are not accessible to the homeless. Temporary housing like 24-hour internet cafes and homeless shelters are at limited hours and/or capacity, leaving many with no shelter. Soup kitchens have shut down out of fear of transmission. I compare homelessness pre- and post-pandemic in Japan in terms of the rates of homelessness, what new problems have arisen, and how aid methods should be changed
