College of Science 
Major Change: S120 Computer and Info Technology 
Summary of Changes: We are replacing STA 225 with STA 150/lS0L. 
Rationale: The new courses are more data focused and include content on the SPSS statistics package. 
This change will apply to all Areas of Emphasis within the major. Revisions for the Areas of Emphasis are 
being submitted simultaneously to revise the four year plans.

Major Change: AB 50 Video Production 
Summary of Changes: Art 489 replaced with JMC in the requirements of the major. 
Rationale: Art 489 is currently a requirement in the CAM Video Production major. However, this course 
was included in the Video Production major as a place holder for a Video Production Portfolio. Because we 
do not have the person power and resources to create a new course at this time, we would like to replace 
this required course for JMC 434. JMC 434 is often a substitute for ART 489 in the major because Video 
Production students do not take a graphic design portfolio course.

RECOMMENDATION 
Recommends that Faculty Senate urge members of the West Virginia Legislature to support 
preservation of the autonomy of the Board of Governors to regulate the safety and security of 
each campus community. 
RATIONALE: 
Policies that may be appropriate at one institution are not necessarily appropriate 
at other institutions. 
Each Board of Governors is more familiar with conditions of the campus for 
which it is responsible and with the desires of members of that campus 
community. 
Boards of Governors have consulted with their presidents and campus police and have 
repeatedly determined that allowing firearms on campus poses an unnecessary danger to 
all concerned. 
There is substantial opposition on the Marshall campus to the idea of having students and 
others carrying firearms on campus, as shown by Faculty Senate Resolutions adopted 19 
February 2016, 24 February 2017, 23 February 2018 and 3 November 2018. 
Therefore, we recommend urging the Senate to ask members of the Legislature to oppose and 
vote against SB 246 and any other bills aimed at removing from Boards of Governors their 
autonomy over questions of campus safety and security.

Senate Membership Resolution

Summary 
This amendment would change Article III of the Faculty Constitution to make one-year full-time faculty 
eligible for Faculty Senate membership. Currently, faculty with one-year full-time appointments are not 
eligible for Senate membership. 
Rationale 
Although officially named "temporary," faculty with one-year full-time contracts often work at the 
university for many years. Their contract lengths can change between I-year and 3-year terms due to 
budgetary pressure or other administrative decisions unrelated to their performance and contributions to 
the university. 
It does not make sense for faculty members who work at the university for a number of years, with 
multiple contracts, to gain or lose eligibility to serve on the Senate based solely on the length of their 
current contract. 
Regardless of their contract length, non-tenure-track full-time faculty are a vital part of the University and 
provide particularly valuable viewpoints to the Senate when elected by their colleges. 
• These faculty teach many important courses, including key general education courses. They often
make meaningful research and service contributions as well.
• The faculty support the university's mission to have an inclusive and diverse faculty body.
• Faculty who are planning to depart the university soon are not likely to run for the Senate and be
elected by their colleges. Any Senator may depart the university during their Senate term, and
selecting a replacement is routine.
Due to current budgetary pressures, the number of 3-year full-time faculty contracts is expected to 
decrease while the number of] -year full-time contracts is expected to increase, making this amendment 
particularly timely.
