Rendering Hypercomplex Fractals
Fractal mathematics and geometry are useful for applications in science, engineering, and art, but acquiring the tools to explore and graph fractals can be frustrating. Tools available online have limited fractals, rendering methods, and shaders. They often fail to abstract these concepts in a reusable way. This means that multiple programs and interfaces must be learned and used to fully explore the topic. Chaos is an abstract fractal geometry rendering program created to solve this problem. This application builds off previous work done by myself and others [1] to create an extensible, abstract solution to rendering fractals. This paper covers what fractals are, how they are rendered and colored, implementation, issues that were encountered, and finally planned future improvements. Disaster Knowledge and Awareness of Nurses Related to Triage in Mass Casualty Incidents
American life, as we know it, is changing. Disasters are increasing in frequency. Over the past decade, more than two million people has lost their lives. Nationally, nurses are not familiar with concepts of disaster nursing and emergency management. Literature demonstrates that nurses lack the knowledge, skills, and ability to respond adequately in a disaster. This quality improvement project evaluated the effectiveness of an evidence based disaster awareness program specifically designed for nurses who work in the emergency department. This quality improvement project used David Kolb’s Experiential Learning and the Kellogg Foundation’s Logic as an organizational framework. With a global goal, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) proposed a framework for disaster nursing competencies for education of “general” nurses, now considered the “gold standard” of disaster nursing competencies. The program focused on the ICN core competencies of disaster nursing. The educational intervention consisted of a variety of educational opportunities, including a self-study packet, an interactive poster, and group discussions. A Retrospective Preevaluation-Postevaluation (RPPE) survey demonstrated that the program was effective in improving nurses’ overall disaster awareness. Gatekeeper Persuasion and Issue Adoption: Amnesty International and the transnational LGBTQ network
Network theory is a valuable tool for understanding how transnational human rights advocacy emerges and develops; how norms become salient; and how nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) gain prominence within networks. This article evaluates political network theory through the case study of the transnational lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) advocacy network. Through interviews with key figures at human rights and LGBTQ NGOs, I suggest that the transnational LGBTQ network emerged through contestation with the human rights gatekeeper, Amnesty International, and its US section, AIUSA. This process of contestation would produce a specific type of gatekeeper activism that would become a defining feature of the network. Over time, the network would evolve from a collection of national groups engaging in direct action to a highly professional and international network with a dual focus on movement building in the Global South and the advancement of LGBTQ rights at the United Nations

The Bristol Statehouse
Now known as the Bristol Statehouse, this structure was constructed in 1819 as Bristol County Courthouse and, until 1854, it served as one of Rhode Island\u27s five state houses, which were used in rotation by the governor and legislature. The building\u27s design has received mixed attribution, architectural historian William Jordy notes it has been attributed to John Holden Greene (and less convincingly to Russell Warren). Originally brick, the walls were stuccoed in 1836, and furthered remodeled by Wallis E. Howe, as part of the WPA, in 1934-35. Today the building is owned by the Bristol Statehouse Foundation, who has dedicated itself to preserving and restoring the site for a historic and educational purposes.https://digitalcommons.ric.edu/ri_architecture/1003/thumbnail.jp
Clinician Preference for Troponin Monitoring
Cardiovascular disease is on the rise in the United States and the cost of CVD is continuing to rise to an estimated at $800 billion by 2030. Serum troponin level is one lab value that is used in early detection and evaluation of cardiovascular disease. Research to date focuses on utilizing troponins as a diagnostic tool to evaluate morbidity and predict mortality. The implication for practice includes how the results of this project can be used in practice. There remains a gap in the literature regarding how serum troponins are utilized after a patient has developed myocardial injury. The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate the clinician’s preference of troponin monitoring after a myocardial infarction. The ACE Star Model of the Cycle of Knowledge Transformation was used as a guide in developing this project. A descriptive four question open-ended qualitative questionnaire was created to evaluate cardiac clinician preference on troponin monitoring. Ten out of 23 possible clinicians answered the questionnaire. The questionnaire showed a high level of agreement amongst clinicians as to the practices of trending troponins. All clinicians agreed that the high sensitivity troponin (hsTrop) should be utilized. In utilization of troponins as an advanced practice clinician, the recommendation is to trend troponins per hospital policy, but also to become familiar in recognizing how elevated troponins can change the plan of care. Further research on the subject of trending troponins after myocardial infarction is still needed
Eye on Ethics: Impropriety and the Appearance of Impropriety
Here\u27s the good news: Ethics-related impropriety in social work is rare. Very few social workers become involved in egregious misconduct, e.g., engaging in sexual relationships with clients, submitting fraudulent bills to health care insurers for services that were never provided, or falsifying administrative records to deceive funding agencies. The overwhelming majority of social workers would never engage in any such misbehavior; of course, even one such case is unacceptable.
Now here\u27s the bad news: In many cases that lead to ethics complaints, social workers behave in ways that rise to the level of an appearance of impropriety, and the consequences are often severe. Typically these social workers intend no harm. But, to a panel of peers (in a licensing board case) or to a judge or jury (in cases where social workers are named as defendants in malpractice cases), even the appearance of impropriety can be problematic
