Registered Nurses’ Knowledge of Cardiac Rehab: A QI Project
This Major paper, with evidence from the literature, describes what cardiac rehab is and acknowleges the importance. The literature supports the benefits and favorable outcomes of cardiac rehab however, CR programs remain underutilized. This paper identifies the need for CR educational programs to increase nurses’ knowledge of CR and to effectively educate patients on the benefits of CR. The content included numerous rearch articles and govement journal articles to support the purpose of this project
The Relationships Among Interval Identification, Pitch Error Detection, and Stimulus Timbre by Preservice Teachers
We examined the relationship between interval identification skill and error detection skill in preservice teachers, accounting for timbral differences by including piano and vocal stimuli. The interval identification test was comprised of 33 items spanning from C2 to B5. Fifteen error detection items were monophonic melodies, two measures long, in 4/4 meter, and included one pitch error. Music education majors (N = 50) completed both tests in vocal and piano timbres during one individual study session. Interval identification performance was significantly correlated with error detection performance, r = .75. Additionally, interval identification score was a significant predictor for error detection when also accounting for variance from numbers of semesters of enrollment and theory/aural skills courses. Response times for correct responses of interval identification were faster than for incorrect responses. We found no main effects or interactions between primary performance area and timbre of test item. The results suggest interval identification skill generally can be used to predict error detection, reinforcing the importance of developing interval identification as a basic musical skill
Detecting Aggregated Superoxide-Dismutase Protein using Aggregate Specific Antibodies
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is neurodegenerative disease characterized by late-onset, loss of motor neurons, paralysis, and eventual death. SOD1 is a free radical scavenger that normally resides in the cytoplasm, nucleus, and intermembrane space of the mitochondria. Mutations in SOD1, a ubiquitously expressed free-radical scavenger, are one cause of ALS. Degeneration of motor neurons is thought to be triggered by aggregation of mutant SOD1 followed by propagation to adjacent cells though cell-cell contacts. Here, we present immunohistochemical findings on tissues of a Drosophila melanogaster expressing mutant dsod1 alleles at the endogenous locus. Aggregate-specific antibodies were used to assess the presence of aggregates in salivary gland tissues and the CNS for mutant and wildtype sod1 alleles. Immunocytochemistry revealed the presence of large cytoplasmic aggregates near the nuclei of larval salivary glands of dsod1G85R/G85R mutants and in the salivary glands and CNS of dsod1H48R/H48R mutants. Aggregation phenotypes occurred with partial penetrance and penetrance did not increase with age. Furthermore, because both dsod1G85R/G85R and dsod1H48R/H48R mutants exhibit lethal phenotypes with complete penetrance, our data suggest a lack of correlation between the presence of visible aggregates and toxicity
A Greco-Latin Numerical List in a St. Gall Fragment
This article provides a detailed examination of a manuscript page in St. Gall, Stiftsbibliothek, Cod. Sang. 1395, with special attention given to an unnoticed Greco-Latin numerical list. The main content of the page derives from Bede’s De temporum ratione, and the fragment offers information about the transmission of this computational text. Furthermore, scribal notes accompanying the list show early medieval uses of Greek learning alongside Latin sources—a phenomenon reflected in a number of other manuscripts from the same time period. Such glosses are also related to the overall trends of Carolingian learning, as well as some possible Insular connections
