Computational Study of Triboelectric Generator Design
As the world population increases and technology becomes accessible to more people, there is an increased demand for energy. Researchers are seeking innovative forms of harvesting sustainable energy with minimal environmental impact. The triboelectric effect is a form of contact electrification in which a charge is generated after two materials are separated. In 2012, the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) emerged as a new flexible power source which can extract energy from small ambient movements. In this study, we use a software tool known as COMSOL to conduct Finite Element Analysis of Triboelectric Generators (TEGs). One aspect we study is the enhancement of TEG efficiency by the inclusion of high dielectric constant (high-k) materials. We show that the orientation of inclusions matter: high-k dielectric inclusions with a vertical orientation display greater overall TEG performance in comparison to those with a horizontal alignment. A design where a piezoelectric material is included in the triboelectric polymer is also explored. Although our preliminary results show that piezo inclusions modify the response of TEGs, more work is needed before we find with an optimal design
The Evolution of the Spinster: Austen and Woolf\u27s Single Women Characters
This thesis explores the single woman\u27s situation in the 18th and 19th centuries. It examines changes to the role of the woman in these times, and what has not changed
Sufficient to Have Stood, Though Free to Fall : Free Will in John Milton\u27s Paradise Lost
In Book I of Paradise Lost, John Milton (1608-1674) asserts his intent to “justifie the wayes of God to men” (Paradise Lost1 I 26), paving the way for a revolutionary discussion of human nature, divinity, and the problem of evil, all couched in an epic retelling of Satan’s fall from grace, his temptation of Adam and Eve, and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden, as recounted in the Book of Genesis. In his treatment of the biblical account, Milton necessarily broaches a variety of subjects which were both relevant during his time and remain relevant in ours. Among these topics, and certainly one of the most compelling, is the matter of human free will
Exploring 1918 Pandemic and Today
Comparing and learning from the 1918 pandemic and today and using history as a tool to learn from the past during current related events. This piece of writing reveals the outcome of working remotely in college.https://digitalcommons.ric.edu/covid19/1002/thumbnail.jp
Emergency Department Nurses Ability to Identify ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Electrocardiogram: A Quality Improvement Project
A quality improvement project was developed using a pre-test, education intervention, post-test design to assess nurse’s ability identify STEMI ECGs from non-STEMI ECGs and to assess the impact of a brief educational program on nurses’ performance. The pre-tests were available to nursing staff over a two-week period to obtain the nurses’ baseline knowledge. Following the pre-test period nurses were provided the educational sessions followed immediately by distribution of the post-test. The pre-tests were then compared to the post-tests to assess whether or not the education improved nurses’ performance in STEMI recognition
Increasing School Nurse Teachers\u27 Awareness of the Social...
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2013) and the National Library of Medicine (2013), the numbers of emotional and mental health issues in children have increased significantly. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) (2017) indicates that the prevalence of mental illness in these age groups is 20 percent. Schools are increasingly implementing social-emotional programs and curricula to address these needs. School nurse teachers provide care for many of these children and are in a position to promote positive outcomes for them. However, many school nurse teachers are not aware of the social-emotional programs and curricula programs that are available.
The purpose of this program development project was to increase school nurse teachers’ awareness of the school district’s social emotional learning (SEL) initiatives. This project addressed the clinical question of whether an educational program addressing SEL increased school nurse teachers’ awareness of the SEL initiatives which had been adopted by the Warwick Public Schools. The findings of the study indicated that a presentation describing SEL increased the school nurse teachers’ awareness of the initiatives that had been adopted by the Warwick Public Schools.
The implications for advanced nursing practice include education that ensures school nurses have the competencies to provide care for students and families with complex social and emotional needs. They must be able to identify students who are struggling with mental health issues and have the skills to intervene on their behalf
Impact of Early Mobility of ABCDEF Bundle on Delirium
A systematic review was performed utilizing the PRISMA checklist to evaluate the impact of early mobility of the ABCDEF bundle on delirium in critically-ill patients. Critical appraisal of the research utilizing CASP and cross analysis was performed of 5 studies that met inclusion criteria revealing two statistically significant results on the impact of early mobility on delirium. Summary and conclusion as well as recommendations for application within the advanced practice role were included
Implementation and Evaluation of the Peg Pain Assessment Scale in a Primary Care Setting
Inadequate pain assessment is a significant problem and a key barrier to appropriate pain management. This project evaluates the feasibility, effectiveness, and impact of using the PEG scale, a 3-item pain assessment tool in place of the unidimensional Numeric Rating Scale to assess chronic pain in a primary care setting. A multidimensional pain assessment tool that evaluates not only the severity of pain, but also the impact of pain on quality and functioning could improve patient care and pain management
