Implicit Bias in Student Nurses
The purpose of this project was to identify student nurses\u27 implicit bias across vulnerable populations in healthcare including age, weight, and mental illness. Implicit bias occurs when individuals have attitudes toward or treat people differently based on associated stereotypes without being consciously aware of this. This project surveyed student nurses at Rhode Island College in a quantitative fashion about implicit bias using the implicit association test (IAT) and qualitatively using a corresponding survey about explicit beliefs. The goal was to identify where nursing students bias lies and discuss the long term effects implicit bias has on their future as professionals in healthcare

Improving Patient Engagement Among Homeless Veterans
This integrative review was conducted to examine research that explores the effectiveness of open-access interdisciplinary care and outreach in engaging homeless veterans in health care. The literature reviewed for this study provided substantial evidence for the benefits of open-access clinics, an interdisciplinary team, and outreach for the sustainability of engaging homeless veterans in health care. The advanced practice nurse plays a valuable role in this process as there is need for enhanced program and policy development to meet the needs of this population as well as the demand to disseminate population-specific education to the interdisciplinary team
