POC in LIS Summit 2025 Impact Report
While there are many conferences for information workers, very few highlight the voices of marginalized identities and provide a platform for discussion for their research interests. According to a 2010 American Library Association survey, 88% of credentialed librarians identify as white. In our vision for this summit and the future of libraries, People of Color in Library and Information Science Summit at Loyola Marymount University encouraged the representation of diverse topics and perspectives and as a part of this work acknowledged that the racial disparities we see in the library and information science (LIS) field reflect inequities in other parts of society. These discrepancies challenge our ability to empathize, converse, and collaborate. We hosted the POC in LIS Summit to foster collaborations and encourage conversations within our field
Empowering Education: Unveiling the Strategies of Latina Elementary Principals in Cultivating Culturally Responsive Learning Environments
This study employed pláticas (Cuevas-Guerra, 2025) to explore how Latina elementary school principals leverage lived experiences, cultural heritage, and community values to foster culturally responsive learning environments. Grounded in Yosso’s (2005) CCW framework and Bordas’ (2013) Latino leadership principles, two questions: (a) How do Latina principals’ early family and educational experiences shape their leadership practices? and (b) What strategies do they use to create culturally responsive schools? were explored Individual and group pláticas with five Latina principals revealed six themes: (a) familia and community bonds, (b) resilience and resistance, (c) cultural identity and pride, (d) education and knowledge, (e) collaboration and collective power, and (f) navigating oppression. These themes illustrated how Latina leaders transform personal and cultural histories into strategies prioritizing equity, inclusivity, and student empowerment. Chicana/Latina feminist epistemology (Peña et al., 2023) informed the study, emphasizing spiritual activism, pláticas, and cultural intuition. My personal narrative as a Latina scholar is interwoven, reflecting shared cultural understandings and the resilience shaping both my lens and the leadership practices studied. Findings revealed that Latina principals’ early experiences inform their leadership identities and commitment to addressing systemic inequities. They employ culturally rooted strategies aligned with Latino leadership principles to empower marginalized communities. This study underscores the importance of culturally informed leadership in advancing equity and advocates for systemic efforts to recruit, train, and support Latina leaders in urban school districts. Integrating personal narratives enhances both scholarly research and leadership practices

Robotic Rhythm: A Contemporary Look At AI-Driven Editing Tools’ Efficacy in Understanding and Replicating Creative Rhythm Editing Techniques.
It is undeniable that artificial intelligence (AI) has made its way into the film world. From AI-generated imagery and sound design in two 2025 Oscar nominees — The Brutalist and Emilia Pérez (Pulver) — to weekly updates and monthly beta releases of existing and new generative image and video models, AI-driven filmmaking tools are here to stay. But what does this mean for the post-production workflow? Much like camera development, editing technology has come a long way from flatbed film editors to Adobe Premiere Pro v. 25.0. Yet, despite each technological leap from system to system, the delicate task of rhythmic editing has always remained in the hands of humans. Never before have filmmakers been so close to having software capable of properly pacing out a scene, cutting between actors, and making story beats emotional. This research analysis sets out to discover if currently available AI-driven editing tools can understand and replace basic creative rhythmic editing techniques through an overview of contemporary research and testing on the latest AI models. Given the exponential rate of improvement in artificial intelligence technology over the past few years, it may only be a few months until artificial intelligence can edit together a series of clips with text prompts. But, in the scope of implementing rhythm into an edit, all available research and testing suggest that humans have not yet developed software capable of implementing creative rhythm editing techniques
