Best Practices Checklist for One-Shot Library Instruction Session
The Best Practices Checklist for One-Shot Library Instruction is a practical tool designed to help librarians implement inclusive, accessible teaching practices within the constraints of one-shot instruction sessions. Developed by the Reference & Instruction Department at the William H. Hannon Library, Loyola Marymount University, this checklist uses a two-tier structure: Essential Practices (must-do items for every session) and Enhanced Practices (recommended when time and context allow). The checklist is organized chronologically across five key areas that mirror the natural preparation and delivery flow: Pre-Session Information Gathering, Materials & Access, Content & Search Instruction, Teaching Strategies, and Classroom Environment. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning principles, the checklist moves beyond reactive accommodations to proactive inclusive practices that benefit all students. This resource is intended to be adaptable for various institutional contexts and instruction types
Catholic School Teaching as Participation in the Common Good
Increasing rates of teacher attrition have exacerbated the shortage of teachers in regions of the United States. In response, some scholars have proposed initiatives that promote the professionalization of teaching, hoping to attract and retain new teachers through greater classroom autonomy and stronger professional development. Others have advocated for a vision of teaching as a vocation, through which teachers can find deeper meaning and thereby better tolerate challenging working conditions. While both conceptualizations of teaching hold compelling implications for the field, their lack of grounding in a broader conception of community ultimately limit the extent to which they can respond to challenges like teacher attrition. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to propose a new conceptualization of Catholic school teaching as a specific form participation in the common good – one that can counteract troubling trends facing teachers today through an emphasis on collective responsibility within a community of faith
First Doubts
As first-gen students, we often struggle with the identity and responsibility of being the firsts to navigate through the unknown. With this, doubts of our ability to succeed come naturally and these can be consuming. My advice is to not be afraid of using resources available and asking questions as these are the first steps into finding our way in institutions not built for us

The End of Faith, The Beginning of Glory
On April 21, 2025, Pope Francis passed away after twelve years of remarkable service to the Catholic Church and to the world. This reflection centers on Francis’ papacy and legacy, asking important questions related to the meaning and purpose of life and inviting us to contemplate his discipleship as a follower of Jesus Christ
Discord from Within: Challenges Facing Catholicism in the United States and the Road Ahead
As membership in the Catholic Church continues to decline in the United States, there are less parishioners or those interested in religious life. Two contributing reasons for this include the Church’s stance on the use of contraception and the role of women within ministry. Explored here is a brief survey of these issues based on Scripture, papal documents, feminist theology, and the perspective of clergy and lay persons. These two topics are of particular interest as the United States grapples with women’s rights over their bodies and wrestle with women’s place within the Church. While the Church has taken an official stance on both issues, there was, and continues to be, differing views among the faithful. Is it time for the Church to reconsider its perspective and should women’s voices be given more credence? Using this paper as a starting point, Catholics can begin to engage in discussions on the future of the Church and the vision that God ultimately has for us
Immersive and Generative Technology: New Tools for Marketing, New Tools for Consumer Response
Immersive technologies, including AR, VR, XR, and generative technologies such as Gen‐AI, are reinventing marketing practice and consumer experience. In this article we provide an introductory review of how these technologies are (re)shaping consumer behavior in domains where the physical and digital converge, and consumers\u27 response to them. Our review finds that while immersive technologies enhance engagement through personalization and multisensory feedback, they also raise concerns about accessibility, authenticity, and digital fatigue. Similarly, Gen‐AI, which is transforming many facets of marketing, including customer service, product development, marketing communications, and consumer research, raises new questions related to attribution, co‐creation, authenticity, and transparency. We outline our contributions to theory, propose managerial guidelines for integrating these technologies into marketing practice, and identify future research questions
