You Have the Right to Tweet, But It Will Be Used Against You: Balancing Monitoring and Privacy for Student-Athletes

The impact of social networking has had a major effect on sport media because these sites allow 24/7 contact with athletes for fans and media. While there are many advantages to social media, this constant contact could lead to public relations issues for sports organization, in particular, for universities whose student-athletes may not realize the impact of their words on social media. The first instinct of many is to monitor the information being released via social media by their athletes, but the growing legal climate towards privacy elicits the need to monitor with caution. The purpose of this article is to examine university social media policies and regulation trends as they relate to new privacy regulations that limit the boundaries of monitoring in connection to student-athletes.</p

Social, Religious Information Behavior: An Analysis of Yahoo! Answers Queries About Belief
No full texthttps://kent-islandora.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/asir/vol4/iss1/3/thumbnail.jpgIn this paper, we investigate religious information behavior by laypeople related to Christian religious belief, through a content analysis of questions posted to the social media Q&A site Yahoo! Answers. The emergent taxonomy of questions is similar to that developed to characterize Yahoo! Answers posts focusing on eating disorders—indicating commonalities of motivation and in the socio-emotional aspects of participation in Yahoo! Answers across topic boundaries. Regarding religious information seeking, the questions are particularly interesting in that they provide insight into non-factual information needs: for example, they illuminate the desire to understand another person’s understanding of religion (rather than to hear an authoritative statement of the tenets of a faith), and to communicate with others to develop an understanding of one’s own religious beliefs.</p
Student Assessment in the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES): Is It Improving Instructional Practices in the Music Classroom?

The participants were music teachers employed in public school settings from seven counties in northeast Ohio. The participants specialized in a variety of content areas (instrumental, vocal, and general) with students ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. Participants taught in diverse geographic, ethnic, and economic situations. Data was collected via an online survey. The music teachers answered questions about their demographics, current situations, professional involvement in the development of student learning objectives for their school district, and the impact of the OTES model on their instructional practices. Survey responses were analyzed using SPSS software. Comments were coded into major themes and discussed in the final portion of the study.</p
Reviving Scottish Fiddling: An Ethnographic Study of Scottish Fiddling Competitions in the United States

Due to its rapid fusion into other fiddling styles, Scottish fiddling did not establish itself as a unique musical genre in the United States. One particular organization, titled “Scottish Fiddling Revival,” or “F.I.R.E.,” is largely responsible for the revival and has established all of the necessary elements within a revival framework to stimulate and maintain this style of fiddling. The organization sponsors official Scottish fiddling competitions, provides teachers to educate and maintain the style, and fosters a community to interact with the revival. This study examines the revival infrastructure and its implications according to an established framework for the continued development of Scottish fiddling in the United States.</p
Cross Cultural Differences in Consumer Evaluation of Cobranding in Sport

As a potential reason for individual differences in brand evaluations, Nisbett et al. (2001) indicated that eastern cultures generally promote holistic thinking while Western societies generally promote analytic thinking. Based on the premise of different styles of thinking, the current study examined how varying aspects of brand fit evaluation and attitude toward cobranded products impact an individual’s purchase intention of cobranded products from a cross-cultural perspective. Using individuals who frequently purchase team merchandise (160 Americans and 162 Asians), two separate multiple linear regressions were performed and the overall results indicated that Americans were more likely to be influenced by brand image fit, brand quality fit, and attitude related to purchase intention of cobranded sports merchandise. In contrast, Asians were more influenced by brand quality fit, brand functionality fit, and attitude for their purchase intention. Findings from this type of research would provide practitioners and scholars with marketing insights related to how individuals evaluate cobranding practices and how cultural differences impact results in differing brand extension evaluations among global consumers of athletic team merchandise.</p

Presenting new interview and auto-ethnographic data, and drawing on an array of theoretical approaches methodologies, Hyper Sexual, Hyper Masculine? explores the formation of gendered and sexual identity in the lives of black men, shedding light on the manner in which these are affected by class and social structure. It examines the intersecting oppressions of race, gender and class, while acknowledging and discussing the extent to which black men’s social lives differ as a result of their varying degrees of cumulative disadvantage. Networked Governance and Transatlantic Relations: Building Bridges through Science Diplomacy

The complex connectedness of modern society and politics compels us to investigate the pattern of interconnections among actors who inhabit social and political spaces. Gabriella Paár-Jákli\u27s study aims to advance theory and practice by examining the networks used by specialists in North America and Europe to achieve their policy goals in the area of science and technology. Her book suggests that to overcome policy problems transnationally, three critical factors should be considered. First, as science and technology policy becomes increasingly critical to resolving global issues, it should be regarded as an integral element of the foreign policy process. Second, as liberal international relations theory argues, the increasing role of NGOs must be taken seriously alongside states as vital agents of policy reform. Third, as transatlantic relations remain center to maintaining the global order, they must be reconsidered. Paar-Jakli assesses the role of digital networks as facilitators of regional cooperation. Utilizing various techniques of social network analysis, her research indicates an active and structurally discernible network in cyberspace among transatlantic organizations, and demonstrates the role of virtual networks as facilitators of cooperative arrangements in transatlantic relations. Paár-Jákli\u27s original research uses social network analysis to investigate transatlantic cooperation, a new approach that will be noteworthy to network and transatlantic scholars as well as policymakers.</p
