Using Rapid Review Methods for Topics in Religion
https://kent-islandora.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/asir/vol4/iss1/4/thumbnail.jpgIn academia the traditional literature review (TLR) is used to provide a summary look at what has been \u27done before\u27. However, critics poiint to the potential for biased representation of topics when TLR are used. A large systematic review methods (SR) literature offers evidence that the shortcomings of TLR might be minimized. Moreover, SR methods themselves are evolving; “rapid reviews” and “scoping” are a new approaches for picturing the literature on topics. We report on our use of these methods to map the social science literature on the broad topic of “intolerance in religion”, and we discuss our experience to date with the rapid review and scoping methodologies. The literature of SR methods does seem a valuable resource for guidance that can serve librarians and researchers as they work on reviews addressing topics in religion.</p

Preparing Teachers as Lead Professionals for a Democratic Morality
This panel presentation will open with a brief synopsis of a new curriculum development text that provides guidance to educators on how they can work as lead professionals for democratic morality. This introductory synopsis will be made by the author of the book, entitled Reconceptualizing Curriculum Development: Inspiring and Informing Action. The text includes contributions from an international group of teachers, teacher educators, and educational administrators. Following the opening overview, three of the book’s contributors will then discuss the teacher preparation implications of this professional leadership approach. They are a kindergarten teacher in the Stow-Munroe Falls School District, a part-time teacher education instructor at John Carroll University (JCU), and an experienced teacher education professor at JCU. The kindergarten teacher and the JCU instructor are C&I Ph.D. students at Kent State University (KSU), while the author of the curriculum development text is a professor of curriculum studies at KSU.</p

Engaging fashion design students with evolving technology; digital printing
Junior level fashion design students were challenged to develop patterns that were to be printed directly onto fabric with a digital textile printer. First, students develop their design using draping or flat pattern methods and create their paper patterns. Second, they sew a muslin prototype of their garment design to evaluate the fit. Third, students altered their paper patterns based on their fit evaluation of their muslin prototypes. Fourth, students digitized their paper patterns and created their fabric design patterns in Fashion Illustrator. Lastly, students’ digital patterns were printed directly onto fabric; students then sew their garments from the printed fabric that already had cutting lines printed onto each pattern piece. This project idea was developed for students to learn how to engineer fabric designs on pattern pieces; it also encouraged them to think about sustainable design processes through the use of a digital textile printer.</p
