Applications of Abstract Algebraic Structures in Semantically Secure Encryption Extending to Network Security
I present research on various encryption schemes and their applications in securing data. To do this, I discuss their vulnerabilities, implementations (both logically and mathematically), and briefly mention their durability against cryptanalysis attacks. I will discuss their mathematical properties, and theories that are assumed to hold within a security parameter. Namely the RSA (Rivest, Shamir, and Adelman) Encryption Algorithm and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) Algorithm in CBC mode (Cipher Block Chaining) against chosen-plaintext attacks. Finally, I will explain why all cryptography will eventually converge to a field of quantum mechanics.</p

Faith Thinking Foundations: Online Religious (Meta)Literacy Education Within a Congregational Context

Congregational religious education often focuses on in-person educational opportunities regarding static religious content and facts or devotional materials and methods. As such it seldom provides members with the educational processes, tools, and frameworks needed to explore their faith questions and other theological and religious topics for lifelong learning from an integrative critical-devotional perspective. Available literature within the subject area of online religious and theological education generally focuses on the educational endeavors of seminarians, clergy, and students within K-12 educational institutions, thus leaving unaddressed the unique concerns and potentials of serious online religious and theological education for congregational members. The current study addresses this omission via qualitative and quantitative evaluation of an online religious metaliteracy course, Faith Thinking Foundations, at Liberation Christian Church in St. Louis, MO, through narrative research, interviews, and surveys of course participants and other interested parties in their attitudes and experiences regarding the course. The author examines available literature for online education within the areas of religious and theological studies, including evaluation and assessment of online courses, religious, and theological curricula. The author proposes that serious online religious and theological education is worthwhile for laypeople as well as seminarians, clergy, and other religious scholars. Such education allows people of faith to further discover, affirm, and live out the purposes to which they are called in God’s realm. This project, by examining the role that the Faith Thinking Foundations online course has in the lives of its participants, offers new insight on the potential of online religious learning for all of God’s people.</p
Innovative and Beneficial Use of Dredged Material
More than 1.5 million cubic yard (CY) sediment needs to be removed annually from fifteen federal harbors, and numerous smaller ports for recreational navigation along the Ohio’s Lake Erie coast. Landfill of these materials is costly and depletes land resources. Open water placement of these materials in Lake Erie deteriorates water quality. In Cleveland, there are more than 14,000 acres of brownfields many with over 90% impervious surface. Impervious surface is commonly employed on post-industry lands to abate pollutions. However, this practice conflicts with “infiltration” the principle required by contemporary stormwater strategies. In addition, research shows that devaluation and destabilization of neighborhoods are around these unremediated brownfields, and the impervious surface increases flooding concerns in combined sewer overflow areas where many brownfields are located. Green infrastructure (GI), e.g. green roof, rain gardens et al, emphasizes infiltration and hydrological retention, and could potentially provide a flexible and affordable solution to remediate urban brownfield in Cleveland. The dredged material may supply nutrients for plant growth in GI and raw mineral materials for aggregate production, which has high hydrological retention capacity for GI construction.</p
The effects of oxytocin variants on grooming behavior in mice
https://kent-islandora.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/ugresearch/2015/Biology_Ecology/7/thumbnail.jpgOxytocin (Oxt) is a nine amino acid neuropeptide that was thought to be invariant in its sequence across species. However, recent work in primates has found that in some New World Monkeys there can be one or two amino acid substitutions in the protein. So, to assess whether or not these alternative sequences are functional in mice, we set out to perform a grooming bioassay. We hypothesized that these alternative forms of Oxt would have differential effects on grooming compared to the native protein. To test this hypothesis we performed stereotaxic surgery on mice and implanted guide cannulae aimed at the third ventricle. Following recovery from surgery, mice were injected with two µl of each of four treatments over the course of four days: Saline, Oxytocin, Peptide 1, and Peptide 2. Following each microinjection subjects were videotaped for 30 minutes and the amount of grooming scored by an observer blind to each treatment. At the completion of the study site checks were performed to verify the location of the microinjections. While we are still in the process of analyzing our data- all of our treatments were successfully delivered to the lateral ventricle; thus, no animals will need to be excluded from the study. We predict that treatment with Peptide 1 and 2 will result in less grooming compared to treatment with Oxt.</p
Alternative propulsion system and fuels for aviation

There will be a detailed analysis of three different kinds of propulsion technologies and fuels. The technologies to be examined are fuel cells, bio-fuels and synthetic gasoline. I will be using key elements of the life cycle analysis to determine the potential of these technologies for the aerospace industry. The challenges include the current requirements that the propulsion technologies must meet in order to be efficient and safe for modern day aircraft. The next key component is the current production methods that will allow the aircraft industry to implement large scale manufacturing. My research will address the issue of finding a future source a clean alternative energy for the aerospace industry.</p
YALLA – Let’s Go!: An Interactive Mobile Interface for Building Community, Promoting Health, and Encouraging Self-Discipline in the K-12 School System
This project focuses on the importance of community, health, and self-discipline for students in the K-12 school system. The proposed system will incorporate a self defense system to be used by children in K-12 educational environments.. Utilizing mobile interfaces, the YALLA program is designed to provide a hybrid course in exercise and self-defense. The goal is to promote community building, healthy lifestyles, and self-discipline among students, faculty, staff, and parents. Krav Maga, Israel’s national martial arts program, was the target defense style researched when developing the YALLA program. Skills needed for basic threat neutralization can be achieved with careful implementation of basic maneuvers in a controlled and non-hostile environment. Secondary research was collected on Krav Maga to ascertain the importance of this national martial arts program in the Israeli culture. The student team collected various articles and video demonstrations. Once resources were gathered, the principles of Krav Maga were used as the foundation to build the model of an interactive mobile interface, Yallo. This system promotes gaming as a strategy for learning the basics of threat neutralization and self defense. Through the use of the proposed application and in-class interaction with teachers, students are awarded for high performance and skill improvement. Awards and features are unlocked through level completion verification of by teachers. Ideally, student progression would begin in Kindergarten and continue through high school. This system gives students the skills needed for the changing world around them while providing community building, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging self-discipline.</p
Data Mining: Telepresence Art, Body Identity, and Activism for the Hyper-Subject
This paper explores the confluence of art using telepresence, the technologically-mediated ability to act at a distance, and activism through individual artworks by new media artist Lynn Hershman Leeson and the cyberfeminist art collective subRosa, both of which explore the relationship of women and gender to issues of the body and cloning. Ultimately, I will argue not only for the promise of a new form of digitally-mediated subjectivity (the hyper-subject), but for the dire need for new forms of activism for women at the frontier of an existence both virtually and physically digitized.</p
