Overcoming AI Model Training Barriers Towards Autonomous Controlled Environment Agriculture Systems
Vertical farming (VF) is a type of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) that promises high yield, year-round production, reduced land usage, shorter supply chains, and sustainable agriculture practices. However, its operation is a challenge to small farmers. Recent artificial intelligence (AI) advances have provided opportunities to design autonomous CEA systems. Unlike classic automation, in which each component is set to operate according to a timer, the proposed autonomous system coordinates all system components based on a set of goals (e.g., yield, taste, and energy consumption). The proposed autonomous system aims to model, monitor, and control the CEA ecosystem based on big data gathered in a proposed agriculture digital twin called Agri Generative Digital Twin (AGDT) platform in the cloud. Digital twin concepts have been applied in various manufacturing applications where data collected via sensors (i.e., in the context of IoT Internet of Things) resides in the cloud. Manufacturers can ask what-if questions to forecast system performance and simulate potential production changes without interrupting the physical production systems. Similarly, the proposed AGDT would collect growing data from crops and the environmental factors and allow farmers to ask VF operational questions. Collecting data from various VF systems and incorporating transfer learning techniques in AI will meet the substantial data demands for training AI models. The trained AI models can design optimal growing CEA recipes based on multiple objectives such as crop yields, quality, and costs. Farmers/users of the proposed autonomous AI models could optimize growth production and reduce costs to generate steady incomes, thus achieving sustainable agriculture practices

Thrive in an Age of Uncertainty?: Using the ADAPT Framework to Build Resilient Academic Libraries
Contemporary academic libraries face significant and well-documented challenges brought about by a multitude of factors, including the rapidly evolving information landscape, the recent COVID-19 global health crisis, the complexity of the current sociopolitical climate, ongoing economic turmoil, and the need to address heightened user expectations and remain relevant in the digital age. As complex adaptive organizations, how can academic libraries respond more resiliently to all the uncertainty and change associated with our time?
One way for academic libraries to do so is to embrace, and act upon, the need for a nimbler organizational culture predicated on the ability to quickly respond to change, adapt to internal and external pressures, and continuously iterate on major organizational processes and services. This article argues that the ADAPT framework which is based on the findings of a recent survey of academic library leadership can help conceptualize these changes. This article defines the key components of the ADAPT operational model and explains how it can be used as the foundation for library practitioners to combine the principles of agile management, data-driven decision making, adaptive and participatory leadership, and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders to enable libraries to transform their service models and ways of working
Information Creation as an AI Prompt: Implications for the ACRL Framework
There is much interest in higher education in the teaching and learning aspects of generative AI, including its potential uses in information literacy instruction. However, less attention has been paid to the educational implications of generative AI’s impact on academic publishing. Because AI can produce deceptively authentic scholarly articles and falsified data sets, it is fueling the scientific paper mill industry. This has led to record numbers of AI-generated article submissions and scientific paper retractions, even in reputable journals. As a result, AI-generated fake scholarship poses a threat to students’ information literacy and learning development. Collective, Collage, and Translative Authorship: Writing to and from Multilingual Europe
Letters to Europe (2011) is a collectively authored, transnational literary engagement with Europe as an idea, a place, and a set of socio-political relationships. A print publication and performance, the ambivalent generic status of the Brussels-based project raises productive questions about how collective translation, transnational authorship, and multimedial performance strategies combine to advance new modes of aesthetic and political representation for subjects in transit in twenty-first century Europe. I argue for attention to multilingual and multimedial translations as sites of creative self-documentation on the part of mobile subjects as a critical counterpoint to state-sanctioned forms of documentality (Favorini). To that end, I show how collage as an aesthetic and editorial technique is used to assemble a visual and performative unity of multilingual texts; consider its implications for contemporary debates on language, culture, mobility and belonging in Europe and the EU; and explore the confluence of translation, document, and migration in innovative European literatures today
A Content Analysis of Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles Over the Last 20 Years: To What Extent Does Contemporary Research Focus on the Effects of Frequent Relocation on the Academic Performance of Military-Connected Students?
This article is a content analysis of peer-reviewed research publications from the years 2001 to 2022 to find the extent to which frequent relocation may affect the academic performance of military-connected students. There are many articles with a focus on civilian students that experience frequent residential and school mobility. However, to what extent has the extant literature focused on the military-connected student that also experiences frequent residential and school mobility? This article pays special attention to the current literature surrounding elementary-aged military-connected students. This article also examines areas of future research surrounding this group of students
From Student to Teacher: Renegotiating Professional Identities
This case-study examines how first-year educators renegotiated their teacher identities as they transitioned from pre-service teachers (PSTs) to professionals. Both participants graduated from the same Teacher Education Program (TEP) and conducted their student internship in the same school as their first year of teaching. The results of this study have unique implications on first-year teachers working in the location of their student internships, as they reported isolation, internalized infantilization, and inconsistent identities. The author argues for TEPs to intentionally prepare PSTs for navigating this transition, and challenge preconceived notions of the benefits of student teaching and working in the same K-12 institution
Unmasking the Phantoms of Generations: A Comparative Study of Financial Responsibility and Stress Across Generational Divides (FTA Best Paper Award)
This study investigated whether financial stress is associated with experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic across different generations. In addition, this research examined whether financial payment behaviors are associated with experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, different generations, and having higher financial stress. Two cross-sectional samples were collected from the United States at two time points, before COVID-19 (n = 823) and during COVID-19 (n = 803). Ordinary least squared (OLS) regression and ordered logistic models were utilized to answer the research questions. The results revealed that COVID-19 increased financial stress, but the younger generations have demonstrated resilience in dealing with the pandemic, contrary to previous research. Furthermore, when analyzing specific financial payment behavior trends such as responsible behavior, continuous age values were found to be more significant than generational divisions. Consequently, the results indicated financial stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it was not associated with generational categories. Both academic and practical implications of the findings are discussed
