Understanding and optimising support resources to facilitate CALD student and supervisor allied health fieldwork experiences
Background
Although fieldwork supervisors and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) students can experience challenges during allied health placements, there is little holistic understanding of how they view and use support resources to address these challenges. This study sought to identify, codify, and map the perceived value attached to support resources used or sought by CALD students and fieldwork supervisors and to ascertain areas where they could be optimised and better presented to users. Methods
We conducted a thematic analysis to examine interview and open-ended survey responses from CALD students (n = 18) and fieldwork supervisors (n = 161) respectively. Findings
The six generated themes depicted different patterns of perceived value in university and non-university support resources and spanned three levels of specificity: general, discipline-contextualised, and individualised. Fieldwork supervisors valued a staged approach to support resource design and use for CALD students commencing with general level resources to build foundational language skills and socio-cultural familiarisation and moving on to include disciple-contextualised supports, preplacement mechanisms to monitor student readiness, and formalised mechanisms to enable tailoring of placements. CALD students, however, often undervalued institutional general resources relative to discipline-contextualised resources. The commonality of support resources valued and sought by supervisors from different fields suggests they could be optimised for delivery via an inter-professional community of practice. Conclusion
Identifying and mapping the perceived value attached to support resources provides actionable insights into how to enhance the ‘fit’ between resources and user needs. Drawing the often-fragmented support resources into a cohesive ecosystem focused around perceived value at different levels of specificity allows CALD students and educators to better conceptualise the types of benefits that can accrue from taking a broader and staged approach to fieldwork placement preparations. Knowing this ecosystem encapsulates what prior uses find of value may enhance perceptions of resource relevance in the minds of new users
A Search for Sustainability: Is Sustainability Achievable within the Social Media Marketplace?
In an internet-centered society, consumers have become aware of the industry’s strain on the environment and global ecosystem. E-commerce has followed a similar trend, as individual purchasing practices change and evolve based on this awareness. Social media outlets like Instagram and TikTok have raised awareness of sustainable practices, yet simultaneously they have given a platform for influencers to promote the next ‘it’ product. Micro-trends and ‘haul culture’ all fall within this purchasing category, where quantity is valued over quality. ‘Slow fashion’ refers to the opposite—encouraging consumers to find value and use in the products they already own. During the past decade, individuals have begun to adopt a ‘slow fashion’ lifestyle, referring to investing in high-quality items, valuing their past purchases, and repairing items when possible. As a result of conscientious media and movements such as ‘de-influencing’ and ‘slow fashion,’ consumers are increasingly aware and knowledgeable regarding the sustainability movement and its move towards eco-friendly measures. However, the focus on consumption-centered practices and influencer marketing continues to present challenges that have created barriers to accepting and promoting these ‘slow fashion’ practices. Despite these barriers, change is possible with the assistance of social media, content creators, and positive influence from influential brands. Exploring Occupational Therapy Student and Entry-Level Practitioner Perceptions of Mental Health Accommodations
Mental health concerns are prevalent among occupational therapy graduate students and entry-level practitioners entering the workforce. Prior research has highlighted that the rise in mental health concerns and the high-achieving nature of occupational therapy students impacts their success in the classroom and the clinic. While formal and informal mental health accommodations are beneficial, obtaining and implementing such accommodations has been cited as a challenging process plagued with negative stigma. This study aimed to understand the perceived effectiveness of common academic and work-related mental health accommodations for meeting the role demands that occupational therapy students and practitioners encounter in the classroom, during fieldwork and capstone, and in entry-level practice. Data were gathered from 218 occupational therapy students and entry-level practitioners who completed an electronic survey, including checklists and Likert scale items. Results include the prevalence of mental health concerns, the use of formal and informal mental health accommodations, and the perceived effectiveness of mental health accommodations in meeting the role demands of occupational therapy students and entry-level practitioners. Participants reported that the commonly prescribed mental health accommodations effectively met role demands in academic and work settings. Qualitative responses to the survey provided a deeper understanding of these perceptions and the barriers students encountered when attaining or implementing such accommodations in the classroom and clinical settings. Implications for occupational therapy education address the prevalence of mental health concerns and the barriers occupational therapy students face when attaining and implementing mental health accommodations

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane and effective method for managing outdoor cat populations. The process involves trapping feral or free-roaming cats, sterilizing them, and then returning them to their original location. While sterilization is crucial in curbing population growth, successful TNR programs require more than just the surgical aspect. Vetting is essential for addressing health concerns and ensuring the overall well-being of the cats. Moreover, colony care, including regular feeding and monitoring, is vital for their survival. Outdoor cats, often considered an invasive species, pose a threat to local wildlife and natural habitats. TNR provides a humane and long-lasting solution to these problems. The root cause of burgeoning outdoor cat populations lies in the abandonment of domestic cats. TNR alone is insufficient; efforts must extend to preventing cat abandonment to truly mitigate the issue. Research supports TNR as an effective means of population management, emphasizing its role in reducing cat overpopulation and associated problems. However, several challenges hinder the effectiveness of TNR programs. Inadequate funding, a national shortage of veterinarians, and legal restrictions against TNR initiatives can impede progress. Addressing these issues is imperative for the sustained success of TNR as a humane and ethical approach to outdoor cat population control

Energy storage systems allow flexibility in control and maintenance of the electric grid while integrating renewable energy resources to mitigate carbon emissions. Redox flow batteries (RFBs) are stationary energy storage systems that convert chemical energy to electrical energy by charge-transfer reactions. Designing molecules that are capable of stable multi-electron redox reactions per active-species molecule can increase the efficiency of future systems. Spectroelectrochemistry, the combination of spectroscopy and electrochemistry, allows for quantitative and qualitative analyses of electron-transfer processes. The focus of this research is to use optical and electrochemical properties obtained from spectroelectrochemistry to determine the stability of neutral and charge states of a chemical species. Exploring the relationships between molecular structure and stability is essential to the performance of RFBs because this allows for rational design of stable active species
Using Mesocosms to Model Optimal Levels of Body Size Variation in Larval Spotted Salamanders (Ambystoma maculatum)
Body size is a critical aspect of an organism’s biological identity mediated by various biotic and abiotic factors. Body size historically been approached through “single optima” approaches, but body size variation modifies both inter- and intraspecific interactions and impacts competition-driven fitness outcomes within populations. Understanding optimal levels of body size variation will help illuminate how variation influences competitive outcomes and reproductive fitness. Populations may be structured through resource partitioning or competitive hierarchies, yet these structures predict contradictory size variation optima. This study sought to determine optimal levels of intraspecific body size variation in populations of larval salamanders to evaluate these mechanisms. Larval Ambystoma maculatum were raised in mesocosm populations along a continuum of body size variation at both high and low densities. Rates of larval growth, survival, size at metamorphosis, and length of the larval period were used to characterize optimum levels of body size variation. High density populations exhibited 38% lower survival than low density mesocosms, and metamorphs from high density populations were 11% smaller. Population size structures experienced shifts throughout the larval period, generally becoming less variable, though populations with higher initial levels of size variation exhibited shorter larval periods. Increased fitness through shorter larval periods in highly variable populations demonstrates fitness optima occur at high levels of intraspecific variation in body size, which is indicative of resource partitioning. However, the fitness benefits of this partitioning appear to be concentrated among larger individuals
