Growing with Our Heroes: Utilizing Hero Narratives in Therapy to Foster Psychological Resilience and Posttraumatic Growth
With the rise of positive psychology, clinical psychologists and other helping-professionals have rightly begun to emphasize the importance of psychological factors that predict human flourishing rather than studying risk factors and psychopathology alone. This new emphasis has largely driven research into constructs such as psychological resilience and posttraumatic growth (PTG); both manifestations of the human ability to survive or grow following experiences with extreme adversity that are often traumatic. The current standards of care for those who have experienced a trauma include asking these individuals to voluntarily discuss and confront their traumatic experiences; a task made challenging by nature of the difficulty of these conversations as well as prevailing stigma. The program presented herein proposes that conversations surrounding hero-models and comparisons such as those found in popular culture super-hero narratives can be used to make trauma processing accessible as well as to foster and/or highlight psychological resilience and PTG in psychotherapy

Music streaming has taken off. It has become one of the largest financial aspects of the music industry. Labels handle the payment of royalties and licensing. Current artists, such as megastar Dr. Taylor Swift, are very vocal about their opposition to the current system. Many believe that artists should be allowed to own their work as well as be fairly compensated for their work. The contributions of this research and presentation are to change the way music licensing and royalties are done. By creating legislation to help artists advocate and negotiate for themselves and to own their work. This will allow artists to have control over their art and be properly financially compensated for their work by streaming platforms, radio stations, and record labels
Examining relationships between Covid-19, investor personality traits, and investor risk tolerance.
In 2020, financial markets around the globe sharply declined as the threat of Covid-19 became severe. The financial market reactions were precedented. Due to the unprecedented reaction, conversations arose describing the influences that impacted investor behavior. Among these influences are behavioral influences such as personality traits and financial risk tolerance. The following research evaluates the relationships between Covid-19, Dark Triad Personality Traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy), financial feelings, preference for consistency, long-term orientation, and the need to evaluate. A survey gauging individuals’ economic perception, personality traits, and risk behavior was distributed to 116 individuals. Quantitative analysis was done using t-tests to find significant differences between groups who exhibited high and low levels of any given personality trait. In addition to gauging significant differences in personality traits, the survey also gauged financial risk tolerance, financial feelings, and how investors perceive the threat of Covid-19. The study found that there are statistically significant relationships between Covid-19, Dark Triad Personality Traits, financial feelings, the need to evaluate, and preference for consistency. During a time of financial uncertainty such as Covid-19, individuals who exhibited higher levels of dark triad personality traits had lower financial feelings and a lesser preference for consistency. Individuals who displayed higher levels of dark triad personality traits also had a larger risk tolerance. Additionally, individuals who are more long-term oriented have more enhanced financial feelings. This research evaluated relationships to help better understand the relationships between Dark Triad Personality traits and risk among other factors
Women in Business: Adjusting Leadership and Presentation from the 1950s to 2023
This research on women in business, specifically in the United States, takes a deeper look at the changes made from the 1950s to 2023. The primary focus is on the way women in leadership dress, but examined is also the changes in leadership roles for women. The first introduction to women in leadership was in 1919, Madam C.J. Walker. From her bravery to pave a way for women, more women entered leadership roles. It was not until the 1950s, when America started seeing big changes in women in leadership roles in the business world. Nowadays, women have been more accepted in business leadership and the United States has begun seeing an increase in women owned companies as well. With this, it has been discovered that there are different ways men and women lead and that business is ultimately most successful when leadership is mixed-gendered. Although both are needed in leadership, women have not been treated as equals to men in business leadership and this is one of the reasons this research is important. It does not stop at leadership, for women, changes have also been made in the presentation of women in the business world. Women have been instructed to dress to their roles and positions in the hierarchy, but as the strong leaders they are, they have given their all to make changes and present themselves how they want
Application of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) to Wetland Hydrogeology: An Assessment of the Efficacy of Array Configurations
Abstract — Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) is a geophysical technique used to measure and map the resistivity of the subsurface. Resistivity (expressed in units of Ohm-meters), the inverse of conductivity, is an intrinsic property of earth materials that is a function of their material composition, void space, and water content. ERT is frequently used for mineral and groundwater exploration, but this technique can be used for any study that requires information of the near-surface environment. Resistivity is determined by applying a known direct current on one electrode pair (labeled C1 and C2) and taking measurements of the voltage potential on another electrode pair (labeled P1 and P2), which is used to create a modeled pseudosection from the data collected. The two most commonly used electrode array configurations are Schlumberger and Dipole-Dipole. In this study, we test the efficacy of various array configurations to determine which one is best suited to help us understand the hydrogeology of geographically isolated wetlands (GIWs). GIWs are ecologically significant systems that provide numerous benefits to the surrounding area such as water storage, water quality improvement, sediment and carbon retention, and flood protection, to name a few. Using twenty-eight electrodes with varying spacing, we were able to conduct these two array configurations on the 977N (natural) wetland in the Daniel Boone National Forest, as well as on an oxbow bend in Taylor Fork Ecological Area. Our models suggest that the Schlumberger array provides the most accurate results. Results from the dipole-dipole array are noisy and provide a chaotic image of the subsurface whereas the Schlumberger modeled pseudosection strongly agrees with existing core data
Bat Nebula (Cygnus Loop)
Approximately 10,000 years ago a massive star in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan went Supernova. The explosion created a roughly circular ring of remnants and shockwaves which is called the Cygnus loop. The filaments of heated gas glow and appear brighter than the surrounding material.
Three of the brightest complexes are the Bat Nebula (AKA NGC 6995; AKA the Eastern Veil), the Witch’s Broom (AKA NGC6960; AKA the Western veil) and the Pickering’s Triangle (AKA NGC 6979). These three photographs were taken using filters designed to enhance the glowing filaments of hydrogen: red and blue.

Child Pain Matters: A Training Protocol for General Nursing Staff in an Infusion Center on Procedural Anxiety in Pediatric Patients with Crohn\u27s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
Procedural anxiety is a broad concept that encompasses fear, distress, and pain. Anxiety is the most critical factor affecting pain perception. There is a growing body of literature suggesting that early pain might have long-term consequences. There is also research evidence that has linked inadequately managed pain in the pediatric population to negative behavioral and physiological consequences later in life. Pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. These chronic conditions often require multiple and repeated medical procedures that may cause pediatric patients to experience procedural anxiety. Needle related procedures are any procedures involving the use of needles for medical purposes such as immunization, venipuncture, IV insertions, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injections. The literature and relevant theories are discussed. A proposed training protocol for nursing staff in an infusion center is presented and this author created resource handouts for nurses, parents, and caregivers. A social narrative written by this author is presented. Also included are distraction card easel prototypes developed by this author to be used as a distraction technique to reduce procedural anxiety. An illustrative case study is presented to show the application of psychological interventions in reducing procedural anxiety. The future utility of the protocol, adapting to individual differences, and future directions are discussed.

Exploring The Effectiveness Of Telehealth Adolescents\u27 Interventions On Sleep: A Meta-Analysis
The purpose of this meta-analysis was to explore the effectiveness of any telehealth interventions that report sleep outcomes on adolescents, ages 11-20 years old. It was hypothesized that most studies will favor telehealth treatment, regardless of type of treatment, and will present medium to high effect sizes sleep improvements. The following databases were searched to determine any research articles published after 2000 and present as of 8 July 2023: PsycINFO, PubMed, and Cochrane. In total, 15 studies, five pre-post and ten Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT), fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were analyzed. Subjective (self-report) and objective (actigraphy based) sleep outcomes were reported pre-post and pre-follow up, if any reported. Some of the sleep outcomes analyzed, Total Sleep Time (TST), SE (Sleep Efficiency), SOL (Sleep Onset Latency), Wake sleep Onset (WASO), Time in Bed (TIB), SQ (Sleep Quality), ISI (Insomnia Sleep Index) and Holland Sleep Disorder Questionnaire (HSDQ), reported small to medium effect sizes, except for subjective Sleep Efficiency (SE) and the sleep questionnaires, Holland Sleep Disorders Questionnaire (HSDQ) and Insomnia Sleep Index (ISI). Subjective SE had medium to high effect size for both pre-post (d= .78) and pre-follow (d= 1.19). ISI also reported medium to high effect size (d= -1.37), along with HSDQ (d= -1.00). The sleep questionnaires reported negative effect sizes as lower scores in both HDSQ and ISI indicate less presence of sleep disorders. This meta-analysis is in line with previous relevant meta-analyses as it highlights the effectiveness of telehealth and the promise it holds for the future of sleep interventions, along with other disorders interventions
Does linguistic background influence academic anxiety in Latino students?
College students are likely to experience academic anxiety. There is an increasing number of Latinos/as attending universities in the United States, but few studies have focused on levels of academic anxiety in Latino populations. The purpose of this study is to determine whether linguistic background influences academic anxiety in Latino students. A survey was distributed to Latino students enrolled in universities across Kentucky. Results indicate that none of the predicted linguistic factors (i.e., English Proficiency, English History, and English Usage) impact academic anxiety in Latino students. It is surprising to find that variations in Latino students’ linguistic background do not influence academic anxiety at the university level.

Ground Penetrating Radar at White Hall State Historic Site
White Hall State Historic Site, the former home of prominent abolitionist Cassius Marcellus Clay, is an important historical landmark in Madison County, Kentucky. Before Cassius Clay and his wife, Mary Jane Warfield Clay, built White Hall, Clermont stood in its place. Cassius Clay’s Father, Green Clay built Clermont in the late 1700s. The 2,000 acre estate included not only the house but all the facilities needed to be self-reliant. Cassius Clay inherited the mansion when Green Clay passed away in 1828. While much is known about the Clay family history, little is known about the 100+ enslaved people the Clay family owned including where their living quarters and burial sites were located.
We will review high-resolution digital elevation models (DEMs), infrared imagery (IR), and current maps to look for anomalies on the surface that may suggest the location of a feature such as the foundation of a building that is no longer there. When suspect locations are identified, we will utilize a technique in Geophysics called ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to identify any subsurface structures. This non-invasive tool is ideal for this type of work because it will not disrupt the site. GPR data can be collected for a large area in a relatively short amount of time compared to invasive archaeological methods. We will make educated interpretations of the anomalies found when using the GPR. The research may be useful for future investigations at the site by EKU archaeologists, geophysicists, and possibly historians.https://encompass.eku.edu/swps_undergraduategallery/1348/thumbnail.jp
