This article discusses and analyzes the rule of international law
which declares invalid any treaty which is imposed by the threat or
use of aggressive military force against a contracting state. The
twentieth century development of the rule is examined by surveying
the doctrine, state practice, international legislation and jurisprudence
of the inter-war and post-World War II periods. In conclusion, the
author sets out the existing rule, problems related to its present
status, and additional suggestions for clarifying and developing the
rule.
