The Roy O. West Library (ROWL) has always been a study spot for students of DePauw University. Since the library’s renovation, ROWL recorded a high number of students visiting the library and utilizing its modern amenities, such as study rooms and Cafe Roy. That said, students experience inconveniences such as not being able to reserve a study room, long waiting lines at Cafe Roy, etc. Roy O. West Library Digital Services (ROWLDS) attempts to improve such areas. ROWLDS provides a centralized platform for DePauw University students and employees to perform services relating to the Roy O. West Library in the form of a web application. The website’s interactive and user-friendly interface aims to seamlessly accommodate student and faculty demands. Students can reserve study rooms beforehand and administrators can manage the library’s facilities all under the same application

    No full text
The Converse project is designed to create a robust and feature-rich real-time chat application that enables users to seamlessly exchange text messages, images, and other multimedia content across various devices and platforms. The core functionality of the chat application revolves around user registration, authentication, real-time messaging, group creation, and profile customization. Users can create accounts, log in securely, and engage in one-on-one or group conversations with friends, family, or colleagues. The chat application employs a client-server architecture where multiple clients connect to a central server. The server acts as a relay, ensuring messages are efficiently delivered to their intended recipients. To achieve real-time messaging, the project utilizes technologies like WebSockets, which allow instant message transmission without constant polling, ensuring low-latency communication and a smooth user experience. Furthermore, the project incorporates essential security measures like end-to-end encryption to protect users\u27 privacy and data integrity. User-friendly features like notifications, message history, and multimedia sharing enhance the user experience. The aim of this chat application is to provide a reliable and secure communication platform that meets the demands of modern digital interactions, contributing to the broader landscape of instant messaging applications

The main processes of the Senior Project consist of (1) developing the based web framework with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and (2) developing the two portfolio coding projects themselves, which are displayed in the list of personal coding experiences, using Python programming language and Android Studio platform for mobile application development. The main objectives of the project are as follows: • To design a visually appealing and user-friendly website that showcases personal skills and expertise in a professional manner. • To include a comprehensive list of relevant work experience, projects, skills, and achievements in an organized manner. • To integrate social media and contact information to allow visitors to easily connect with the portfolio website’s owner. •To develop from scratch and showcase two large programming projects, one Python and one Android mobile application, on the portfolio website

    NameReclaim

For some, remembering the names of others is easy, but for others, it is quite difficult. Nonetheless, being able to remember people’s names quickly is a very useful skill to improve connections with others. Unless one can do this easily, remembering names either requires concentrated effort or intenerating with those in question many times to properly remember their name. NameReclaim serves to streamline this process. NameReclaim is an IOS application that both allows users to streamline the process of remembering the names of others. This application is built using the Swift core data framework with an opening menu showing all user entered names, as well as toolbar items to add names to the list and edit the list itself. The add button brings up a form allowing the user to enter a name, which is then added to the menu. The “EDIT” button allows for the deletion and recording of names on the list. Clicking on a name brings up a display of the name attributes. These attributes include the name, social media profile, location, time, description (designed to be used to physically describe the person in question), and details (designed to be used to describe what the person means to you, such as “Janitor at Work” or “Supervisor”. These are formatted as strings to allow for maximum flexibility for the user. Clicking the pencil toolbar item allows for the user to enter/alter each of these fields. There is also a space for a picture which the user can choose from their photo library above the other details about the person indicated

    Ultimate NFL Website

    No full text
There are countless websites people can use for updates and statistics on NFL games each week. The Ultimate NFL website provides NFL fans and football sports bettors with detailed information that they can use to pick a team to win or to cheer for that day. It allows users to have all necessary game information in one centralized location. Users can explore four different pages on the website. The first page is a home page explaining the purpose of the website, how the website works, and what all the website includes. The next page shows the live NFL games that are being played. It includes the teams playing and the score of the game. Not only this, but it also filters the games in chronological order based on game start time. If there are no games being played when accessing the website, the Live Scores page will display that no games are being played. The Ultimate NFL website also provides sports gambling betting lines. For example, if it is the Colts vs. Texans, it might state the Colts are favorites at -120. The third page allows users to click through the previous results from the season. The final page of the website is a ‘Contact Us’ page so that Users or Advertisers have a way to reach the company

    Gridlock

    No full text
Gridlock is a distributed, periodic job scheduling tool for Linux, which aims to reduce gridlock in workload scheduling. Users provide a schedule with a list of jobs that should be run on some recurring basis. The schedule specifies how often each job should be run and how to run the job. Gridlock runs in the background and starts each job at its scheduled time(s). Gridlock makes it possible to track job status and manage output from jobs. Jobs may specify prerequisite jobs to build more complex workflows. Gridlock scales to run on many servers without a centralized controller to reduce the impact of outages and prevent a compromised node from infecting the whole network. It is designed to be useful to the hobbyist and home Linux administrator, but also scale to the needs of business users with large workflows and hundreds or thousands of servers. Gridlock modestly aspires to reduce gridlock more than its name might suggest. Gridlock is open source software and can be found at https://gitlab.com/MggMuggins/gridloc

Teaching the actuality of revolution: Aesthetics, unlearning, and the sensations of struggle

    Get PDF
Exploring the nexus between aesthetics, pedagogy, and politics illustrates the central role education plays in reproducing injustice and inhibiting confidence in revolutionary struggle. Demonstrating how capitalism and its attendant forms of oppression are not merely cognitive but perceptual, Derek R. Ford proposes that revolutionary education demands the production of aesthetic experiences through which we sense the possibility and actuality of alternative worlds. To create such encounters, Ford develops a praxis of teaching and a pedagogy of unlearning that, in our current conjuncture, creates conditions for encountering what Jennifer Ponce de León calls “an other aesthetics.” Mapping contemporary capital as a perceptual ecology of structures, social relations, beliefs, and feelings, Teaching the Actuality of Revolution: Aesthetics, Unlearning, and the Sensations of Struggle provides an extensive new set of concepts, practices, and readings for revolutionaries to better plan, enact, reflect on, and refine our organizing efforts

Synthetic or Not: Implications of Hormonal Birth Control on Women’s Hormones and the Cortisol Stress Response

    Get PDF
Women’s bodies are the subject of decision-making and control, yet women’s lives are dismally ignored. The field of women’s health is highly understudied, and the demand for that adequate research must be granted to the women’s health field. This interdisciplinary research study investigated stress response differences between hormonal birth control users and non-users. Hormonal birth control (HBC) is one of the greatest technologies afforded to women and further research is necessary to ensure women are guaranteed bodily autonomy and women’s health education. Due to altered hormonal signaling, HBC has been linked to behavioral and decision making differences in women. Building off this research, I analyzed the effects of HBC on chronic stress and the HPA axis cortisol response. The data indicates that HBC may be a potential contributor to both increased chronic stress levels and HPA axis blunting in women. This research provides a framework for further research and a call to action for increased women’s, sexual and reproductive health education to empower women when making decisions regarding their bodies
