February 2025 Table of Contents Newsletter - Librarianship
We\u27ve all heard the question, What will you do with that major? and we know that a liberal arts education sets students on a path toward a wide range of careers and future endeavors.
Librarianship is one such path for which DePauw graduates are well-prepared. From English and math majors to sociology and Latin minors, our grads have gone on to earn library degrees and currently work as librarians and library directors in all types of libraries (academic, public, school, and special) across the country.
Some of these alumni worked in the Libraries during their time on campus, while others connected with librarians during research consultations or at the recommendation of their faculty mentors. Some found their way to libraries on their own. We are thrilled to be in touch with these librarians and hear what they are accomplishing in their respective libraries. Many have participated in conversations with current students considering library science as their next step after graduation
WorkflowX
With the technology at hand today, it does not make sense for a business to have to launch several separate applications to set up just one meeting or update customer details. Operating Google Calendar in one tab, managing Slack notifications in another, and searching through lost email threads in a third tab while the CRM window is waiting to be updated causes attention to be pulled in different directions and a loss of precious time. WorkflowX is an AI-powered business assistant aiding workflow automation by integrating these critical tasks into one platform. WorkflowX is powered by advanced AI models, such as GPT-4 / LLAMA-2 and BERT, mixed with a FastAPI backend to provide seamless integration with Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, and CRM platforms such as HubSpot. Automating meeting scheduling, email composition, and data retrieval enables businesses to direct their efforts toward strategic goals rather than routine administrative work. This enhances productivity levels while reducing errors and provides a modern solution for handling everyday workflow challenges
LegalSphere
LegalSphere is an advanced artificial intelligence agentic framework that automates international legal workflows through a network of specialized agents with persistent memory capabilities. The system implements a hierarchical architecture modelled after traditional law firm organization, with agents engineered for specific legal functions including research, analysis, documentation, and cross-jurisdictional coordination. These agents maintain stateful operation through contextual understanding and long-term conversation memory, enabling complex multi-turn interactions across legal matters. The framework\u27s current scope focuses specifically on International Trade Law as governed by World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations and precedents. Key technical components include: (1) a centralized orchestration backend for routing user queries to appropriate specialized agents and facilitating inter-agent communication protocols, (2) a robust knowledge representation system utilizing either graph database architecture or relational database for storing legal precedents and relationships between cases, and (3) an intuitive user interface enabling document upload, query submission, and visualization of agent reasoning and conclusions
Kora Stars
Kora Stars is a mobile-based application designed to connect soccer players and match organizers, simplifying the process of finding and joining local games. Users can browse upcoming matches, register for games, and track their participation, while organizers can schedule matches, manage participant lists, and book fields. The platform fosters community engagement by making soccer more accessible and reducing logistical barriers to play. With additional features like rankings, MVP voting, and player evaluation, Kora Stars enhances the experience for both casual players and competitive athletes
DePlan
DePlan is a Python-based web application designed to help DePauw University students organize multi-semester course schedules. By consolidating major and graduation requirements, as well as special program prerequisites, into one location, DePlan eliminates the need for students to manually consult multiple resources. Users can browse a searchable course catalog, filter classes by various criteria, and build a personalized plan spanning their entire undergraduate program. If a course is unavailable due to high demand or scheduling conflicts, DePlan quickly suggests alternatives, helping students remain on track to fulfill all requirements in a timely manner. In addition, the interface offers real-time validation of planned courses, highlighting missing or overlapping requirements. DePlan’s goal is to simplify registration and reduce the confusion that often arises from changing schedules or last-minute course cancellations
MyCorner
It seems hard to stay motivated to keep a bullet journal or write a physical diary in this digital age of modern technology and short form content. MyCorner, a web application, creates a safe space for people to video or record their inner thoughts or feelings effortlessly without writing them down. Through video or recording capture, emotions are more expressive than pen and paper can reveal. A user can log into their account and start a recording or video and talk about how their day goes. The user can re-record or download the content if they want to. The video is then uploaded, stored, and displayed on the website that is accessible for playbacks
Flow
Flow is a fully functional, completely free music streaming platform that introduces an innovative debt-based advertisement system. Unlike traditional streaming services that charge users for an ad-free experience, Flow allows immediate music playback at any time while accumulating “ad debt.” Instead of disruptive mid-stream ads, users rack up ad debt throughout the day based on the number of songs played. By the end of the day (e.g., 8:00 PM), they must watch a series of brief ads (typically ten 5–15 second clips) to settle their balance. This system gives users full control over when they watch ads while ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted music experience. Flow also offers a robust social system for users to interact with songs (Liking, Commenting), or other users (Following). Flow is built using the Next.js React framework to provide a professional, high-performance UI with a modern, responsive design. The backend is powered by Express.js, and Firebase is used for authentication, storage, real-time database management, and hosting. Flow maximizes reusable React components and TailwindCSS to maintain a sleek, unified interface
