SenAI: An Accessible AI Scam Detection and Digital Literacy Tool for Older Adults
Navigating the online world has become increasingly difficult for older adults as digital scams grow more sophisticated. For many seniors, the biggest barrier to staying safe isn’t just understanding technology, but feeling comfortable using it. To address this, SenAI was designed with clarity and accessibility. Clear text, gentle colors, and simple controls create an experience designed specifically for these users who are often overlooked in cybersecurity design. SenAI is an accessible tool that helps adults aged 60 and older determine whether a text message or email may be a scam. This age group faces the highest financial losses of any demographic; according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, seniors reported 147,127 complaints and more than $4.8 billion in losses in 2024 alone. Seniors need technology that actually fits their needs, and SenAI aims to fill that gap with something intelligent, reliable and genuinely easy to use.
A major part of SenAI’s effectiveness comes from how it analyzes messages. It uses a DistilBERT transformer model that I trained using Hugging Face tools and several cleaned datasets containing hundreds of thousands of labeled scam and non-scam messages. This training allows the model to identify subtle patterns that appear in phishing, fraud and impersonation attempts. Beyond simple “safe” or “scam” labels, SenAI highlights the specific words or phrases that raised concerns and adds brief explanations. This makes the feedback easier to understand and turns each scan into a small learning moment for the user. The interface is built with modern tools like Next.js, React and Tailwind CSS, connected to a Python FastAPI backend that serves the trained scam detection model. These tools make it possible to adjust text size, enable text-to-speech, switch color modes, and maintain an overall senior-friendly design.
Overall, SenAI offers steady guidance to build digital literacy over time. By providing both reassurance and clear protection, it works to help seniors feel safer and more confident in their everyday online interactions
A Schönberg Approach to DeVillier v. Texas: Synthesizing Text, Structure, and History of the Takings Clause
Lexi - ASL-enabled video call web application
The project is a modern web application specifically for video call that can support ASL translation during the calls using real time camera feed of users and translate their hand signs into text. The aim of this project is ASL translation across 2000 common English words (list of words gathered from WLASL, the largest video dataset for ASL), with the hope of supporting basic sentences as a start to building an application of this kind. All technology used to build this project is open source.
It consists of 3 different development phases - data collection & processing, machine learning model construction, and application development. For the first 2 phases, along with WLASL, web scraping is used to gather more videos using Selenium, a web automation tool. YT-DLP, a command-line tool to download videos from YouTube, is then used to download the videos gathered. Once downloaded, OpenCV, a library specifically for computer vision and image processing tasks, is then used to access and store individual frames of those videos based on their calculated motion level (blurriness) in order to retain useful information. MediaPipe is then used to locate keypoints of hand placement and position of each frame to compile a Numpy memory map, which is used to train a simple TensorFlow Sequential neural network model. For application development, React was used to ensure a dynamic web application with basic features such as device settings, adding contacts, etc., some of which that require real-time updates is built with Socket.io, a JavaScript library that enables event-based communication between web client and server. WebRTC is used for the actual video call feature, ensuring bidirectional, real-time video, audio, and data exchange between user devices by creating peer-to-peer (P2P) connection through signaling and NAT traversal techniques such as ICE, STUN/TURN, ensuring secure and low-latency communication. The backend side consists of a PostgreSQL database for user information friend list, and friend requests; the trained TensorFlow model that receives front-end video feed, process user hand signs, and sends the translation as text output on the front-end screen.
This project hopes to serve as a better alternate to ASL translation specifically in video-call application and remote communication in general to the existing solutions, which are often inefficient and costly (e.g. involving a third-party person in the video call to translate the conversion). By using all open-source technology, this project also hopes to bring more awareness to ASL through a user-friendly and easily accessible web application that anyone can use

Henry Clay Robinette, attended the Delaware Military Academy (1857-1860) and joined the Union Army at the outset of the Civil War. H.C. Robinette fought at the battles of Corinth and Vicksburg (1862) and was later on the General Grant\u27s staff (1864-1865). Interdisciplinary management of a patient with developmental disabilities under general anesthesia in an academic dental surgery center: A case report
Background: Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities may require dental care to be delivered while under general anesthesia, albeit there is often greater need for these services than hospital capacity allows.
Case Description: This case report presents a 19-year-old male with intellectual and developmental disabilities and numerous comorbidities who was able to be treated under general anesthesia in an academic dental surgery center by an interdisciplinary team. The accompanying discussion identifies strategies that dental teams and academic centers can consider to effectively provide care to patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities who require general anesthesia
