    Development of Teaching Materials to Enhance Input for Japanese Elementary Students: Enabling Autonomous and Independent Reading through Rewriting of an English Picture Book

    The purpose of this study is to set up standards to select and to explore appropriate reading material as input for Grade 5 and 6 elementary school pupils in Japan as a supplement to a given government-approved text-book. Published graded readers were rewritten so that the pupils would be able to read the material in pairs, trios, or independently in the end. In order to verify the effectiveness of this material, some questionnaires were given in each lesson to examine the students’ motivation toward reading, as motivation is known to be crucial in any learning.本研究の目的は,日本の小学校5,6学年を対象に,インプットとして検定教科書を補完する形でのリーディング教材を選定するための,基準を明らかにすることである。 児童が最終的にペアやトリオ,または一人で読めるように,出版されているGraded Readers(段階別読本)は書き直し教材化する。その教材の有効性を検証するために,各授業で振り返り調査を行い,学習において重要であるとされる「読むことへの動機付け」についても明らかにする。原著論文departmental bulletin pape

    The movements just before the completion of rotation on the front hip circle of the horizontal bar

    The purpose of this study was to obtain insights into the movements just before the completion of rotation on the front hip circle of the horizontal bar. Twelve adults who performed successful trials were divided into two groups based on the dimensions of downward misalignment between the bar and the pelvis during the rotation. Furthermore, the mean values of the kinematic parameters of the upper body, upper limbs, and lower limbs were calculated for each 15-degree upper body tilt angle, and an independent t-test was conducted to identify differences between the groups. These results indicated that the group with small misalignment had the char-acteristics of control the deceleration of upper body rotation during the middle phase of raising motion, and then to suppress the descent of the pelvis, as well as to establish the front support through the following movements: 1. Raise the elbows and shoulders in sequence from the middle phase of the upper body raising motion until the shoulders are directly above the bar. 2. Bring the knees closer to the upper body and suppress the descent of the lower limbs just after the middle phase of the upper body raising motion. 3. Extend the elbows close to the vertical line of the bar and rotate the wrists from just after the middle phase of the upper body raising motion until the shoulders are directly above the bar. 4. Raise the head, shift the base of the little finger of the hand forward, and decelerate upper body rotation at and just before the point where the shoulders are directly above the bar.本研究は,鉄棒運動の前方支持回転における回転終了直前の動作に関する知見を得ることを目的とした。成功試技を行った成人12名を対象とし,回転中における鉄棒のバーに対する腰の下方向へのずれの大きさを基準として2群に分類した。その上で,上体,上肢および下肢のキネマティクス的パラメータの平均値を上体傾斜角15度ごとに算出し,対応のないt検定で群間差を明らかにした。その結果,ずれが小さい群には,上体起立時の中盤で上体の回転減速を抑制した上で,以下の動作によって腰の降下の抑制および正面支持の形成を図る特徴のあることが示唆された。 1. 上体起立時の中盤から肩が鉄棒の真上に位置する時点まで肘および肩を順に上げる。 2. 上体起立時の中盤過ぎで膝を上体へ近付けて下肢の降下を抑制する。 3. 上体起立時の中盤過ぎから肩が鉄棒の真上に位置する時点まで肘を鉄棒のバーの鉛直線に近付けて伸展し,手首を回す。 4. 肩が鉄棒の真上に位置する時点およびその直前で頭を起こし,手の小指の付け根を前方に移し変えて上体の回転を減速する。原著論文departmental bulletin pape
