Using art for public engagement: reflections on the Dementia and Imagination project
Creative outputs engage the public and can be used to share research. This paper reports on public engagement activities that were part of the research project Dementia and Imagination (D&I). We found that artwork and creative activities effectively engaged a range of audiences and challenged negative ideas about dementia. For the project team, public engagement developed relationships with collaborators and connected the research to different community settings, influencing future programmes of work. Further work could explore public engagement in diverse settings to assess which approaches are effective in maximising research value and wider community benefit

Mapping the landscape of male-on-male rape in London: an analysis of cases involving male victims reported between 2005 and 2012
Male-on-male rape remains an under-researched area, and little is known about the characteristics and outcomes of this type of crime. This study examines 122 rape cases involving young adult and adult male victims reported to the London Metropolitan Police Service between 2005 and 2012. Overall, there were a number of similarities with cases involving female victims; however, male cases were more likely to involve strangers, substance use, and a victim with mental health issues, alluding to specific vulnerabilities. Moreover, younger victims, victims with poor mental health, and victims who had consumed alcohol or drugs were less likely to have their cases referred to prosecutors and more likely to be ‘no-crimed’ by police. This paper provides unique insight into the profile and trajectories of male-on-male rape cases, and preliminary recommendations for both police practice and future research are provided
Composer-composer collaboration and the difficulty of intradisciplinarity
Research and practice involving parties from different disciplines is of increasing importance in many fields. In the arts, this has manifested itself in both increasing attention on established collaborative partnerships – composers, for example, collaborating with writers, choreographers and directors – and a move towards more overtly cross-, multi-, inter- and/or trans-disciplinary forms of working – a composer working with a physicist, philosopher or psychologist. Composer-composer partnerships are far less common, meaning intradisciplinary collaboration is little explored in relation to practice research in music.
This article takes the collaborative music theatre composition I only know I am (2019) created by the authors – Litha Eftythmiou and Martin Scheuregger – as a case study, outlining the issues and opportunities that arise through combining two compositional practices in an effort to create a single artistic output. Ways in which the composers managed this process are detailed in the context of communication, technology, and the issue of tacit knowledge (of both individual compositional process and the working of intradisciplinary collaboration). In particular, reflections on their experience during a week-long residency, in which they collaborated on a single musical work, is discussed in order to understand to what extent two aesthetic approaches can be reconciled to create work satisfactory to both parties.
Notions of composition as an inherently collaborative process are used to contextualise the means by which composer-composer collaborations might be understood. The authors reflect on an understanding of intradisciplinarity in the context of their practice as composers in order to draw conclusions that will allow them, and others, to approach composer-composer collaboration in an informed manner.

Nurses' and midwives’ cleaning knowledge, attitudes and practices: An Australian study
Background
As frontline providers of care, nurses and midwives play a critical role in controlling infections such as COVID-19, influenza, multi-drug resistant organisms and health care associated infections. Improved cleaning can reduce the incidence of infection and is cost effective but relies on healthcare personnel to correctly apply cleaning measures. As nurses and midwives have the most contact with patients and as an important first step in improving compliance, this study sought to explore nurses’ and midwives’ knowledge on the role of the environment in infection prevention and control and identify challenges in maintaining clean patient environments.
Methods
Cross-sectional online survey of 96 nurses (RN/EN) and midwives (RW) employed in clinical settings (e.g. hospital, aged care, medical centre, clinic) in Australia.
Results
Nurses and midwives broadly stated that they understood the importance of cleaning. However, cleaning responsibilities varied and there was confusion regarding the application of different disinfectants when cleaning after patients with a suspected or diagnosed infection post-discharge. Most would not be confident being placed in a room where a previous patient had a diagnosed infection such as multi-drug resistant organism.
Conclusion
Greater organisational support and improving applied knowledge about infection control procedures is needed. This includes correct use of disinfectants, which disinfectant to use for various situations, and cleaning effectively following discharge of a patient with known infection. The cleanliness of shared medical equipment may also pose current risk due to lack of cleaning
Interview: Kris P. Taylor
Kris P. (formerly Puszkiewicz) Taylor moved to New York from London in 1980. She was working at Island Records in the Publicity and Artist Development department when MTV was launched in 1981. The department quickly expanded to include Music Videos and she was soon promoted to Director of Music Video Promotion and Production. She left in 1985 to work as Executive Producer at Zbig Vision in New York after commissioning Zbigniew Rybczyński’s first music video, the MTV-award-winning Close to the Edit (1985) by Art of Noise. After successfully working together on fourteen videos over two years Kris moved briefly to work at MCA Records in Los Angeles and then in 1988 became Director of Music Video Production at Columbia Records (West Coast), working with artists such as Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Michael Bolton, The Bangles, Alice In Chains, Billy Joel, Carlos Santana and Mariah Carey. In all she commissioned or was involved in the production of over three hundred music videos
Neuronal mechanisms of adenosine A2A receptors in the loss of consciousness induced by propofol general anesthesia with functional magnetic resonance imaging
Propofol is the most common intravenous anesthetic agent for induction and maintenance of anesthesia and has been used clinically for more than 30 years. However, the mechanism by which propofol induces loss of consciousness (LOC) remains largely unknown. The adenosine A2A receptor (A2AR) has been extensively proven to have an effect on physiological sleep. It is, therefore, important to investigate the role of A2AR in the induction of LOC using propofol. In the present study, the administration of the highly selective A2AR agonist (CGS21680) and antagonist (SCH58261) was utilized to investigate the function of A2AR under general anesthesia induced by propofol by means of animal behavior studies, resting‐state magnetic resonance imaging and c‐Fos immunofluorescence staining approaches. Our results show that CGS21680 significantly prolonged the duration of LOC induced by propofol, increased the c‐Fos expression in nucleus accumbens (NAc) and suppressed the functional connectivity of NAc‐dorsal raphe nucleus (DR) and NAc‐cingulate cortex (CG). However, SCH58261 significantly shortened the duration of LOC induced by propofol, decreased the c‐Fos expression in NAc, increased the c‐Fos expression in DR, and elevated the functional connectivity of NAc‐DR and NAc‐CG. Collectively, our findings demonstrate the important roles played by A2AR in the LOC induced by propofol and suggest that the neural circuit between NAc‐DR maybe controlled by A2AR in the mechanism of anesthesia induced by propofol
Neurochemical alterations of different cerebral regions in rats with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury based on proton nuclear magnetic spectroscopy analysis
Background: Recent studies have demonstrated a complex and dynamic neural crosstalk between the heart and brain. A heart-brain interaction has been described regarding cardiac ischemia, but the cerebral metabolic mechanisms involved are unknown.
Methods: Male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated into 2 groups: those receiving myocardial ischemia-reperfusion surgery (IR group, n =10) and surgical controls (Con group, n=10). These patterns of metabolic abnormalities in different brain regions were assessed using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (PMRS).
Results: Results assessed by echocardiography showed resultant cardiac dysfunction following heart ischemia-reperfusion. Compared with the control group, the altered metabolites in the IR group were taurine and choline, and differences mainly occurred in the thalamus and brainstem.
Conclusions: Alterations in cerebral taurine and choline are important findings offering new avenues to explore neuroprotective strategies for myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. These studies may contribute to our understanding of metabolic mechanisms underlying myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats
