Known and unknown PFAS in Norwegian adults: Temporal Trends and Sources

    No full text
The study investigated fluorinated chemicals in humans and their changes over 2–3 weeks (T1 vs T2). Samples were collected in Norway, from September 2016 to November 2017. Exposure sources to known per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and unrecognized fluorinated chemicals were studied. Methods measured 64 PFASs and extractable organofluorine (EOF). Up to 81% of detected fluorinated chemicals were unrecognized, with a median of 38%. About 36% of participants showed EOF concentration changes >25%. Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) comprised ~33% of EOF and was the most abundant PFAS. No link was found between unrecognized EOF and diet or personal care at T1, but T2 proportions correlated with vegetable/potato consumption. In a separate cohort, fluorinated medication users had higher TFA and EOF. Further research is needed to identify TFA sources and other fluorinated chemicals

    Implementing missions in Nordic regions

    No full text
This policy brief aims to shed some light on the mission's approach, specifically within innovation policy, and how it is interpreted and implemented at different territorial levels. First, the academic debate around the territorial dimensions of MOIPs is presented, followed by a brief discussion of how MOIPs have been adopted so far at the supra-national, national and sub-national levels. More specifically, a snapshot of the innovation policy landscape and the degree of penetration of mission and transformative approaches in Denmark, Finland and Sweden is presented. Furthermore, the interpretation and adoption of missions at the regional level are discussed based on the results of three Nordic case studies, including Northern Jutland (DK), Ostrobothnia (FI) and Västerbotten (SE). The final section discusses the implications of adopting MOIPs and provides a list of recommendations for Nordic regions

Policy Study on X-Nordic Tourism Innovation

    No full text
Based on a review of more than 40 national policy papers and reports and 26 interviews with experts and stakeholders in the field, this research paper finds a rich potential for cross-Nordic collaboration and relation-building within travel and tourism innovation. Not only is travel and tourism an industry on the move with considerable technological change and substantial expectations when it comes to future growth. It is also a sector characterised by significant negative impacts on the climate, the environment and the local communities where it takes place. Nevertheless, the paper finds that today’s travel tech community in the Nordics is rather fragmented, with weak relationships between the national clusters and programmes. In addition, the travel tech communities do not enjoy the same visibility and capitalisation as other tech communities in areas such as fintech, GreenTech or MedTech. In conclusion, the paper points to the need for long-term programming for Nordic collaboration in tourism innovation as a driver for growth and a more sustainable future of tourism in the Nordics

Growing food(ies): Youth participation and opportunities in the Nordic food sectors

    No full text
This report draws on statistics on status and trends within food systems, gives an overview of research and analyses in previous and ongoing studies and presents a survey among young people in the Nordic countries about their preferences and motivations for education and careers in food systems. Input from a reference group composed of young professionals and experts helped ensured relevance and grounding of the results and recommendations. The investigation of the role of young people and opportunities in the Nordic food sectors focuses on the following main topics: (1) High expectations placed on young people as “agents of change”, (2) The rural-urban divide, (3) Education, family and (digital) peers, (4) The future of work: reimagining food systems. The key policy recommendations include suggestions for dissemination and take-up aimed at boosting youth participation in food systems. While the project primarily focuses on the Nordic countries, it also incorporates the Baltic perspective where possible, extending the discussion to the wider Nordic-Baltic region and highlighting both commonalities and differences
