Chapter 3. Communicating the Covid-19 pandemic : A comparison of government communication in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden
No full textIn this chapter, we utilise a framing analysis to compare Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish government communication during the Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020. The results show that the perceptions of the seriousness of the crisis and the expected challenges facing Scandinavian societies were shared by all three governments, but they framed their communications slightly differently. Though based on common perceptions of an extraordinary threat to society and efforts to demonstrate national solidarity, a key component of the differences between the three Scandinavian prime ministers’ framing of the crisis was related to the issue of political control: One prime minister had come to office with the intention of assuming full political control in crisis situations, another framed management of the crisis in accordance with the delegation of power, and the third sought balance between expert agencies and political control through transparency and openness

Økt internasjonal oppmerksomhet omkring nordiske løsninger representerer nye muligheter. Dette krever et dynamisk og fleksibelt samarbeid hvor budsjettet er et viktig redskap for årealisere nye løsninger på nye utfordringene
Quantification and environmental pollution aspects of lost fishing gear in the Nordic countries
No full textThe occurrence of abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) in aquatic environments contributes both to environmental and socioeconomic impacts. In nature, discarded fishing gear contributes to pollution by macro- and microplastics and harmful chemicals as well as to the degradation of habitats. This study compiles information from the Nordic countries on the quantity and composition of lost fishing gear, originating mainly from sport- and recreational fishing activities. The study also considers the occurrence of harmful chemicals associated with the lost fishing gear and the potential impact of these chemicals on the aquatic environment. Suggestions on how to prevent further losses and mitigate negative impact of lost fishing gear are also provided.
Service provision and access to services in Nordic rural areas
No full textThis report presents results based on in-depth field work in eight case studies of rural areas identified as having high access to services or as good examples in their national and regional context: Lolland, Suðuroy, Kinnula, Avannaata, Múlaþing, Herøy, Vimmerby and Geta. The aim of the field work has been to investigate service provision and validate the results of a research and policy review focusing on Nordic rural areas. The investigations presented in this report focus on the following questions: (1) Which services are considered essential, and how does that vary in rural areas across the Nordics? (2) How are services provided, what roles and responsibilities are involved in their provision? (3) Which challenges are encountered, and what solutions are being developed to solve challenges associated with access to essential services in Nordic rural areas
Proposals for a future Nordic research project : Nordic Cooperation on Young People's Mental Health
No full textAccording to several surveys, the Nordic nations are among the happiest countries in the world . However, this does not mean that all people in the Nordic region experience a high degree of well-being. There has been a worrying increase in the number of young people who express mental distress across the Nordic countries in recent years. A Nordic Network has been tasked with covering relevant knowledge about the causes of the increase in mental distress among youth in the Nordic region, including knowledge about risk and protective factors for mental distress.As a conclusion to Mental Distress Among Nordic Youth Project, the Nordic Network is tasked with proposing a future joint Nordic research project that builds on the knowledge generated in connection with the Network's work on risk and protective factors for mental distress and effective cross-sectoral efforts.

No full textDenne strategien tar utgangspunkt i Nordisk råds første internasjonale strategi (2018–2022). Strategien definerer rådets strategiske og langsiktige mål på det internasjonale feltet. Strategiens målsetninger styrer Nordisk råds internasjonale virksomhet. Nordisk råd har et tett samarbeid med en rekke internasjonale, regionale og nasjonale parlamentariske organisasjoner. I strategien inngår også målsetninger og rekommandasjoner til Nordisk ministerråd og de nordiske regjeringene. Det overordnede ansvaret for Nordisk råds internasjonale samarbeid og saker som berører utenriks-, sikkerhets- og forsvarspolitikk ligger hos presidiet
Regulatory framework for CCS in the Nordic countries
No full textAll Nordic countries have set ambitious targets to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions through various national goals and legislation. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has a key role in strategies to achieve net-zero emissions through mitigating emissions from fossil fuels and removing CO2 permanently from the atmosphere. This project aimed to analyse regulatory aspects that are relevant for deployment of CCS-based mitigation options in a Nordic context. The report identifies similarities and differences between the Nordic countries concerning CCS regulation, barriers to CCS deployment due to regulatory frameworks, and currently ongoing regulatory development aimed at promoting responsible CCS deployment. Recommendations are provided concerning areas where further development, coordination, and capacity building might be prioritised by the Nordic countries

No full textHér birtast niðurstöður fyrsta hluta af þremur í norræna verkefninu Eldra fólk og loftslagsmál – báðum til gagns, sem unnið er af Environice fyrir íslenska umhverfis-, orku- og loftslagsráðuneytið í samvinnu við félags- og vinnumarkaðsráðuneytið. Verkefnið er hluti af formennskuáætlun Íslands fyrir Norrænu ráðherranefndina og er fjármagnað af ráðherranefndinni. Þessi fyrsti hluti inniheldur yfirlit yfir starfandi samtök eldra fólks á Norðurlöndunum, sem helga sig baráttunni gegn loftslagsbreytingum, en slík samtök eru starfandi í Noregi, Svíþjóð, Finnlandi og Danmörku. Skjalið sem hér birtist hefur öðru fremur þann tilgang að nýtast á norrænni málstofu eldra fólks um loftslagsmál, sem haldin verður í Reykjavík í lok september 2023

No full textThis document contains the results from the first of three parts of the Nordic project Aging and climate - for the benefit of both, which is carried out by Environice for the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate in Reykjavík in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. The project is part of Iceland's presidency program for the Nordic Council of Ministers and is financed by the Council. This first part contains an overview of elderly organizations in the Nordic countries which are dedicated to the fight against climate change, but such organizations are active in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The document shown here will be used as a basis for a Nordic seminar on older people and climate issues, which will be held in Reykjavík at the end of September 2023
