Policy brief: A review of the Nordic implementation of the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan
No full textThis policy brief compiles the main findings from the report “A review of the Nordic implementation of the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan” (2024). The review assesses the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Gender Action Plan (UNFCCC GAP) in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The UNFCCC GAP aims to advance the implementation of gender-responsive climate actions at all levels, ensuring women's full, meaningful participation in the climate process. Thus, this review assesses both the notable endeavours towards ensuring gender responsive climate policies in the Nordic countries, as well as the challenges encountered. Based on the review, this policy brief presents best practices, gaps and barriers as well as recommendations for further strengthening the implementation fo the UNFCCC GAP in the Nordic countries

No full textNorden er kendt for sit fabelagtige foreningsliv, og der findes utroligt mange positive fritidsfællesskaber, unge kan involveresig i. Desværre er det ikke alle, der er med, og problemet er særligt udtalt for unge i udsatte positioner, hvor mange risikerer at havne permanent på kanten af samfundet. For at finde og dele virksomme løsninger, afholdt Nordisk Ministerråd en debatrække på tværs af alle de nordiske folkemøder i 2023, med et gennemgående spørgsmål: Hvordan får vi flere unge med i positive fællesskaber? På tværs af Norden samledes eksperter, civilsamfundsaktører, beslutningstagere, unge foreningsaktive og hundredvis af folkemødedeltagere for at diskutere udfordringen og komme med bud på, hvordan det løses. Nordic view on data needs and scenario settings for full life cycle building environmental assessment

It emphasizes the importance of standardizing data and calculation methods to achieve comparable results. The report also addresses topics such as the inclusion of vegetation on building plots, assessing GWP for existing buildings, and defining sustainable forests for calculating the contribution to biogenic carbon storage in building products. It recommends using a tiered approach and decarbonization scenarios for data used and scenario settings. Overall, the recommendations aim to support a Nordic common implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) and its climate declaration.

BIM-based building LCA – Instructions for material inventory for normative climate declarations
No full textThe BIM4LCA project report outlines a BIM-based process for calculating building carbon footprints, offers guidelines for BIM-based material inventory, and suggests data requirements and best practices for modelling and data processing to improve BIM data's usability and accuracy for LCA. It envisions automated BIM-based LCA for instant feedback and low-carbon design solutions. The project produced two example buildings with BIM models for practitioners' learning and educational videos on BIM-based LCA. The study employs two complementary methodologies – a top-down approach and a bottom-up approach – implemented on the Nordcrawl online platform.
Maritime Transition in the Nordics : State-of-the-art overview and innovation system analysis
No full textTo meet the decarbonisation targets for maritime transport, a sectoral energy transition is required. This report presents an overview of the maritime energy transition in the Nordics, from several perspectives. First, governmental strategies, policies, regulations and supporting schemes are reviewed, followed by a description of the Nordic ship traffic, and scenarios for the future maritime fuel mix. The recent uptakes of novel energy carriers and alternative fuels, in terms of production, infrastructure and end-use, are summarised, as well as previous studies on Nordic sectoral strongholds. Emerging markets influencing the maritime sector are touched upon, such as offshore wind, digitalisation, and carbon capture. Based on this overview, and drawing on scientific literature, Nordic strongholds were assessed through a sectoral innovation systems analysis. On this basis, a set of policy recommendations is provided

No full textThe Freedom of Movement Council is an independent body set up by the Nordic governments in 2014 to promote cross-border mobility for people and companies in the region. It is a top priority for Nordic co-operation to make it easy for people to move to other Nordic countries to work, study and start businesses, all of which are crucial to achieving the vision of making the Nordic Region the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030. Since its inception in 2014, the Council has helped remove 91 obstacles to cross-border freedom of movement in the Nordic Region

No full textIn the 2025–2030 period, the Nordic Council of Ministers for Finance will work to promote economic development and prosperity in the Nordic Region, and to ensure a cost-effective and socially just green and digital transformation of the Nordic economies. Nordic co-operation within the economic and finance policy area shall promote policies and solutions that boost the competitiveness and resilience of the Nordic economies, and which enhance the long-term growth potential of the Nordic Region in a sustainable manner. Co-operation must contribute towards solutions to the common economic policy challenges that face the Nordic countries, and help to better configure economic policy in the Nordic countries.
