Union Council Meeting on Discernment 
I. I opened with prayer 
II. Reminder that we want to try and keep things to 1 hour 
III. Reading of the minutes for the two meetings 
a. Review of what happened at first meeting such as selecting committee leader, lawyer, 
conference contact, two trustee signers, insurance, LLC and new name, parsonage sale 
was presented, asking for 1/3 charge account 
b. Second meeting was on Sunday after church to meet briefly to talk about the new name 
and a vote was done and the new name will be Union Community Christian Church at/of 
Wilson 
i. Vote was 15 to 1 
IV. Finance Report 
a. Talk about the charge acount and how it got so high 
b. Motion to accept reports and vote passed 
V. Old Business  
a. Joe Coffey is the selected lawyer because he was the only one that Courtney could talk 
to and was willing to accept 
b. Insurance 
i. Review of the insurance and send it to the conference for approval  
c. Charlie and the Parsonage sale 
i. Review of the appraisal and Union’s share is $55,000 
ii. Charge account Charlie is thinking that 1/3 of the account as of Dec 31st 
1. Looking at everything but Pastor and Direct Billing 
2. The Youth Fund needs to be more closely looked at to see when they 
stopped paying and compare the two balances and what the portion is 
there, then figure what to ask for 
d. Discernment Checklist to be done by Dec 13st 
i. Property mortgage and parsonage 
1. There is no mortgage and there is no debt 
ii. A copy of all deeds that the church owns 
1. Someone needs to get a copy of the deeds  
a. Danny is going to get them 
iii. A copy of all endowments, trust, and/or foundation documents 
1. There are none 
iv. Talked about the letters and getting them mailed 
1. It must be a true and honest attempt

Union Church Council Meeting March 14, 2024 
1) The meeting was opened by Danny, and the Pastor opened with a prayer 
2) Discerment Buisness  
a. Joe Coffee took care of what the lawyer needed to do, and the official 
certificate was presented to the council. 
i. Joe advised not to run an LLC 
1. Question: was any questions raised by what other churches 
did 
ii. Was formed as a non-profit for religious purposes 
1. This is how he handled other churches  
iii. Was sent to sent to Kay Crow 
1. Was sent before March 1st 
b. March 10th stuff 
i. I Had to go to Beth Westberry 
ii. Internet problems happened, and the material was sent in on Tuesday 
c. Waiting on the annual conference trustees about what Union Church owes 
d. Archivist material is already digital and waiting to be sent 
e. Next thing is important, and the church cannot go forward until the by-laws 
are written 
i. There is a copy of Trinity's by-laws, and several churches use this 
because Trinity got them from another church that got them from 
another Church 
ii. The by-laws are going to be passed out, and people are to read them 
prayerfully  
1. It is important that everything is carefully understood and 
adapted to what the Union Community Christian Church 
2. In The part under the name, the only sentence should be this 
community will be known as this church 
3. Looks like the other churches wrote them while still feeling 
pain and hurt 
4. Look for anything that should be in a handbook and not the by-
laws 
a. They should be backed up by scripture 
i. Scripture is the foundation of the church  
1. And theology 
5. The Council is going to need to meet to go over and set soon 
a.  This needs to be done before any of the government 
side of stuff is done 
i. Like opening a checking account 
ii. Looking at setting a meeting in April 
1. Second Thursday in April 
b. Looking at belief statements and prayerfully considering 
what they believe as a church 
3) On the 14th of June 
a. Question about the cemetery transfer 
i. After the 14th, Union will transfer to Wilson Cemetery Association 
4) Informed that copies of the rolls are not present, but they can be quickly sent to 
Courtney 
a. The conference wants stuff for the archives as far back as the church can go 
i. Asking for council minutes 
ii. Pastor Roy is going to look through the office for all Union records 
1. Make copies for record and get originals to Donna 
5) Setting the next meeting 
a. April 11th, 2024 at 6:30 pm 
6) Additional by-Laws discussion 
i. The tune in any church by-laws can still have feelings from any issues 
that caused the church to leave 
1. The pastor reminded them that they need to be prayerful and 
consider whether they believe what the statement says 
a. If they hesitate, then they do not believe 
2. Need to think about how votes are to be taken and what is 
needed to pass anything 
a. Is it to be a simple majority or some form of a 
supermajority 
b. There is going to be membership and what 
requirements for membership and what about 
membership need to be in the by-laws 
3. There also needs to be a church handbook that covers the 
process of living by the by-laws 
4. Is there a possibility of reading out possible by-law issues  
a. Looked at sending a message to Courtney, and then she 
would send those comments out to others 
b. Pastor said that he would like to see them done by the 
end of April 
i. This is for his peace of mind as the church is 
setting out on a new journey 
c. Thinking about who and how to line up speakers and 
guest preachers  
i. The search for a career pastor probably won't 
happen until much later

Union Council Meeting April 11th, 2024 
I. Start with by-laws 
a. Copies had been handed out at the previous meeting 
b. People should have been looking them over and tonight the editing process 
so the church can have the by-laws done as soon as possible 
c. On the last page, there is a statement (13) amendments to the by-laws 
i. One of the if not the most important page as it talks about amending 
the by-laws 
1. The statement in the example used a majority vote to amend 
the by-laws 
d. The copy that was passed out has been looked over and amended by 
multiple churches and lawyers, so it does have everything the church needs 
i. By-laws are needed for Union Community Christian Church to operate 
as an entity 
e. Having them done by April 30th means over thirty days are left to open bank 
accounts and other items needed for Union to operate as a new church 
II. Looking at the first page, the name is changed, and in the first article, most of it 
needs to be scratched out and be name and purpose 
i. The last sentence is needed or a variation of that sentence is needed 
for legal purposes 
b. Next is the purpose statement 
i. What is written in the copies passed out is a good statement for what 
is the purpose of Union Community Christian Church 
c. Next is a statement of faith 
i. What is the belief of the church, and this is the belief statement of the 
church 
ii. The Bible is breathed word and the sole and final source of all we 
believe 
d. Next is a way of salvation  
i. Talks about grace and has scripture to back up what is being said 
e. Affirmation of Faith 
i. Apostle Creed and Nicene Creed 
f. Spent some time talking about the need for the belief statements and how to 
have them in a way that can be cared for and not thirty pages 
i. The by-laws will probably be 30+ pages, but sections can be set as 
individual sections for easy to pass out or cared 
g. Talking about officers are the only ones who can voice government body 
meetings 
i. At congregational meetings, the people who can vote are members in 
good standing  
1. That definitions and how to remove someone is in the by-laws 
h. Section on voting 
i. The example has absentee voting in it 
1. They are talking about voting needs to be in person, and those 
who are present 
i. Talking about joining and moving membership over to the Union Community 
Christian Church 
i. There is a process for new members, but the members of Union UMC 
can transfer over their membership 
j. Did talk about Safe Sanctuary and the different policies and training on the 
current one 
k. Talking about voting on the by-laws and that edits will be made and then 
reviewed, then voted on 
l. Because the voting rights are only for those participating in the meetings and 
are part of the council, the others can give their opinion, and the people 
should  
m. Right now, they do not need to vote, but once the edits are done, then on 
April 28th, a vote on the by-laws will be done. The meeting will be held at 12:31

 While there is a lot to get done it can and will be completed 
 As of July 1st they are going to be Union Community Christian Church 
 27,500 from each church over five years and payments annually and first payment is 
June 30th

 Review of the by-laws and that is pushed to next meeting 
 Nominations timeline are in by-laws and everyone that is currently in place are going 
to stay in place

 The Cross and Flame need to be removed from the sign needs to be done 
  Printed material that has been bought is fine 
  By july 20th the united and the symbol need to be covered and Charlie is going 
to get that taken care of 
 Emblem 
  Looking at the possiblity of creating a new logo and emblem and the need to 
get it done professionally  
 There is a Facebook page and for now they are going to keep it and now there  
  Talked about Mevo and I need to get website and info to courtney 
 Looking at a website and the info on that 
 Looking at possible adds 
  Keeping the add simple 
   Tina is going to conntact for the adds 
 Order of Worship and Bulliten 
  Using their own and created a cover 
   Possible change paper color each week 
  Looking at how worship is ordered 
   Having 2 readings, change call of worship to a song, include song with

  Cliff nominated and voted in to be third signer on the account

  Once a month and done on the first Sunday 
  Service of word and table 2 from the hymnal

  Membership is automatically transferred to new orginzation  
   Transfer can be rejected and membership can change to new church 
or conference or complete withdraw
