Lauren Mattox Curry ’97 begins historic appointment
Lauren Mattox Curry ’97 is the first woman in Georgia history to be appointed the governor’s chief of staff
on a permanent basis.
Lauren Mattox Curry ’97 assumed her new role as chief of staff for Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp
on Monday, Jan. 15. Curry is the first woman in the state’s history to be appointed to that
position on a permanent basis.
“Being a mom of two daughters and a mentor to younger women makes it extra special,” says
Curry. “Male or female, this is an honor. But it’s nice to show everyone that it’s about the best
person for the job. I give the governor a lot of credit for his commitment to that.”
Curry, a native of Chapin, South Carolina, was a government and business economics
double major at Wofford College. She earned a master’s in public administration from the
University of Georgia.

Dean’s List announced
Wofford College has announced the fall 2023 Dean’s List.
Dr. Timothy Schmitz, provost of Wofford College, has announced Dean’s List students for the
fall 2023 semester. Students achieving a 3.60 grade-point average or higher after earning at
least 12 academic hours qualify for the Dean’s List. See who made it HERE.
New speaker series opens with talk by Christopher Rufo
Wofford’s new speaker series, “Defining or Dividing?: Contemporary Issues in American Culture and
History,” launches with a presentation by Christopher Rufo. The series will aim to bring in speakers on
current events and important issues in politics.
Wofford College kicks off its new speaker series, “Defining or Dividing?: Contemporary Issues
in American Culture,” with a talk by Christopher Rufo, a senior fellow and director of the
initiative on critical race theory at the Manhattan Institute.
Rufo will speak at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, in Leonard Auditorium. He will introduce and
discuss topics mentioned in his book, “America’s Cultural Revolution: How the Radical Left
Conquered Everything.” The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Dwain Pruitt ’95, Wofford’s chief equity officer and vice president for community initiatives,
hopes that Rufo’s talk, as well as the following talks in the series, will promote constructive
conversations on campus about key issues in the media at any given time.

PCMA Foundation honors Greg O’Dell ’92
Greg O’Dell ’92, will receive the lifetime supplier award from the Professional Convention Management
Association (PCMA) Foundation on April 11 in Washington, D.C.
Greg O’Dell ’92, a member of the Wofford College Board of Trustees, has earned a lifetime
achievement award from the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA)
Foundation. O’Dell will receive the lifetime supplier award on April 11 during Business Events
Industry Week at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
O’Dell, a longtime events executive and former PCMA board chair, is president of venue
management with OVG360, which is recognized as an organization that is positively
impacting the hospitality, sports and live-entertainment industry.

Danny Morrison ’75 wins CBJ award
The Charlotte Business Journal has named Danny Morrison ’75 its Business Person of the Year.
Dr. Danny Morrison ’75, a former member of the Wofford College Board of Trustees, has
been named the Charlotte Business Journal’s Business Person of the Year. Morrison,
executive director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation, was recognized for the organization’s
“achievements, and his ability to forge partnerships with a range of corporate and government
executives and entities.”
