The main purpose of the speech was to encourage Americans to never forget this day. He also directed his speech towards the U.S. Congress to ask for permission to go to war with the empire of Japan. In this essay, I analyze the use of three classic persuasive appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos) within Roosevelt\u27s speech to determine how he used these appeals to persuade his audience. Roosevelt\u27s convincing speech led them to declare war, as well as earn support from the Americans who were disappointed and heartbroken by the events of the time

The Influence of Parental Obesity on Children and Adolescents
Get PDFObesity in America is an epidemic, with a total of 42.4% of adults having a BMI over 30.0. In Healthy People 2030, America set the goal of decreasing childhood and adolescent obesity from 17.8% of our population to 15.5%. Obesity is directly related to a higher risk of developing hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, asthma, anxiety, and depression. Through our literature review, we created the question \u27During the ages of 2 to 18, are children and adolescents who have obese parents at an increased risk for obesity and related health diseases in comparison with children and adolescents who do not have obese parents?\u27 Through an analysis of current research journals, we discovered that parental obesity is the leading indicator of obesity in children and adolescents, with nearly 89% of offspring being overweight or obese. Along with parental obesity, additional common factors are low socioeconomic status, minimal education, difficult access to fresh food, and specific demographic characteristics such as being African American or Latino American. Public school systems that utilize free and reduced lunches, offer at least 5 fruit and vegetable options a day, and have nutrition and exercise classes see a significant reduction in the rates of childhood and adolescent obesity. The Evaluation of Conservative Treatments and Surgical Interventions on Return to Play Outcomes in Shoulder Labrum Tears in Athletes: A Critically Appraised Topic
Get PDFClinical Scenario: Historically, superior labral tears anterior to posterior (SLAP) of the shoulder have been widely viewed as uncommon; however, current literature supports a rise in surgical repair of these lesions. Treatment for SLAP tears in athletes through surgical or conservative methods often produces a low return to play (RTP) rate. However, the most effective treatment to increase RTP rates at the previous level of activity has yet to be determined. Clinical Question: In athletes who have SLAP tears of the shoulder, how do arthroscopic surgery and biceps tenodesis compare with conservative treatments in return to play efficiency? Summary of Key Findings: A thorough literature search returned 204 possible studies; 4 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included. Current evidence supports the use of conservative treatments before surgery is attempted. When considering whether to pursue surgical interventions or continue nonoperatively, conservative treatments produced relatively similar results as surgical interventions; however, overhead athletes showed a lower return to previous play (RTPP) rates than regular athletes. Clinical Bottom Line: There were consistent findings from multiple low-quality studies that indicate there is no clear difference in the use of conservative treatments compared with surgical interventions when comparing RTP rates in physically active athletes. Strength of Recommendation: Grade C evidence exists that conservative treatments and surgical interventions equally minimally improve RTP rates
