Polygraph Tests - Benefits and Challenges

    Get PDF
This research describes the working, benefits and challengers of polygraph tests. Polygraph tests are lie-detecting devices that help ascertain individuals’ honesty based on physiological indicators. The heart rate/blood pressure, respiration, and skin responses are the three indicators measured in the test to assess honest/deceitful behavior. The underlying assumption behind the working of polygraph tests is that the autonomic responses of dishonest individuals are distinctively different from those of honest people because the liars will be more nervous than truth tellers. Control Question Test (CQT), Guilty Knowledge Test (GKT) or Concealed Information Test (CIT) and Neuroscience-Based Advanced Polygraph Tests are the important types of polygraph tests used today. Polygraph tests are used to detect truthfulness of individuals in such important fields as crime investigation departments, national security agencies, and business and industry. However, accuracy of polygraph tests and ethical issues associated with the tests are highly debated

Gender Equality, Albanian National Mechanism Within the Framework of EU Legislation

    Get PDF
Gender equality is a cornerstone in the process of Albania’s integration into the European Union. Although gender equality terminology was once considered impossible, progressive steps have now been taken to increase female involvement at the top of public office, decision-making, and local government. The continuous political changes of our country have created a huge legal gap over the role of women in society. Political and economic reforms after the 1990s aimed to create an equitable system of benefits between women and men, concerning their freedoms and personal rights. It is very important to emphasize that gender equality policies have an impact on improving the welfare of society by creating a parity that aims to flourish in a modern state. Reforming the legal framework on gender equality policies in Albania is a challenge, but its implementation is a considerable legal treasure trove for human rights. The same treatment of both genders will lead to the national restructuring of the monetary and human resources which will be governed by the treaties ratified by our state in creating a very good legal guide to the implementation of European standards

The influence of demographic indicators on corruption perception in Slovenia

    Get PDF
The attitude to corruption and the perception of it (as well as the acceptance or rejection of corruption) depends largely on the customs and traditions in a particular country, with the causes of corruption deriving from the political, economic, social conditions of a particular country and from the historical development, customs and culture. However, the demographic indicators must not be ignored. The existing researches thus show that the perception of corruption, at least to some extent, depends on gender (women are supposedly less corrupt and perceive corruption more; age and education). For the purpose of this article, the influence of demographic indicators (gender, age) on the perception of corruption in Slovenia was researched. The results were compared with the already known researches and it was determined that there are no statistically significant differences in the perception of corruption with regard to gender and age, which shows that Slovenia, in view of the specifics of the corruption perception (although the corruption perception is high in Slovenia), differs from other countries in which researches took place

The Land of the Dawning Sun - Italian gazes out to Albania from the beginning of 1900 to present day

    Get PDF
Over the first forty years of the last century the Italian View of Albania has changed in different ways, but always maintaining strong interest. Both the surprised and sometimes the astonished gaze of travelers and the one of those attracted by possible trade exchanges or the gaze on the soldiers convinced of having the task to Italianize Albania in 1939 “the land of dawning sun” separate frontally by a narrow stretch of the sea, symbolized hopes and promises. In the text of the country across the water that borders with itself the story the specific view (from francone wardon) to stand guard inevitably changed in to watch (from Sanskrit) that means to observe and know

Current Meanings of the Legal Culture Concept and the Question of Truth Regarding its Elements

    Get PDF
The article introduces and approach of the philosophical concept of legal culture from the perspective of a global vision on the structure and evolution of society as a whole, of the legal life as part of it. In this context, the underlined idea is that the sphere of legal culture contains, in addition to the knowledge of law - the information from the field of legal sciences, elements of common knowledge, beliefs, attitudes, mentalities, legal norms, traditions, the active customs in the operation and enforcement of laws, the functioning mechanisms of state institutions in connection with the behaviour of social action agents: natural persons and legal persons. The anatomy of the legal culture is analyzed, highlighting the idea that its core is the legal knowledge, the scientific information in the field of law, which contains truthful and verified assertions. The article questions the truth of the components of legal culture, starting from the premise that judicial systems that violate the truth are incapable of producing justice. The act of justice is guided entirely by the truth, by truthful information. The achievement of justice and equity in society, the efficient functioning of the judiciary depends, not as much on the level of development of legal knowledge, the law sciences, but on the unity and functional coherence of the legal culture subsystem in its entirety

Diffused Religion and Civil Society in Italy

    Get PDF
“Diffused religion” is to be understood in at least a double sense. First of all, it is diffused in that it comprises vast sections of the population and goes beyond the simple limits of church religion. Besides, it has become widespread, since it has been shown to be a historical and cultural result of the almost bi-millennial presence of the Catholic institution in Italy and of its socializing and legitimizing action. However values diffused in the Italian civil society can be considered as a form of conflict with the established institution of Catholic Church. Civil society shows a peculiar trend towards civic freedoms and ethical pluralism. Although the Catholic perspective is dominant, the civil society prefers a different system of values, even though not so much different from ecclesiastical social doctrine. This way there is a public space where religion is not the reference point and other perspectives take place
