On rank two aCM bundles
Let (F,\cO_F(1)) be a smooth polarized projective variety of dimension . In the present paper we prove some easy results on aCM bundles of rank on , i.e. locally free sheaves \cE of rank on such that h^i\big(F,\cE(t)\big)=0, for and t\in\bZ. We obtain some results in the case of a very ample polarization when . We apply these results in order to deal with bundles on non--degenerate complete intersection with degree up to . A complete description is given for the complete intersections of two quadrics when
Examples of smooth surfaces in \p3 which are Ulrich--wild
Let F\subseteq\p3 be a smooth surface of degree whose equation can be expressed as either the determinant of a matrix of linear forms, or the pfaffian of a matrix of linear forms. In this paper we show that supports families of dimension of pairwise non--isomorphic, indecomposable, Ulrich bundles for arbitrary large
Kinetic models for traffic flow resulting in a reduced space of microscopic velocities
The purpose of this paper is to study the properties of kinetic models for traffic flow described by a Boltzmann-type approach and based on a continuous space of microscopic velocities. In our models, the particular structure of the collision kernel allows one to find the analytical expression of a class of steady-state distributions, which are characterized by being supported on a quantized space of microscopic speeds. The number of these velocities is determined by a physical parameter describing the typical acceleration of a vehicle and the uniqueness of this class of solutions is supported by numerical investigations. This shows that it is possible to have the full richness of a kinetic approach with the simplicity of a space of microscopic velocities characterized by a small number of modes. Moreover, the explicit expression of the asymptotic distribution paves the way to deriving new macroscopic equations using the closure provided by the kinetic model
OnToMap - Semantic Community Maps for knowledge sharing
This paper presents the information search features of OnToMap, a Participatory GIS supporting flexible information search, crowdsourcing and collaborative annotation of shared geographical information spaces. The advanced features offered by the application (e.g., semantic query expansion, presentation of information under different points of view, browsing of linked data) are based on a semantic knowledge representation layer that enables the exploitation of linguistic and domain knowledge to describe concepts, the integration of heterogeneous data, and the exploration of semantic relations among information types
Sistemi costruttivi in legno e tradizionali a confronto. Analisi in clima caldo umido
Cracking analysis of concrete tie reinforced with two diameter bars accounting for the effect of secondary cracks
The paper presents an extension of a general crack prediction model, that has recently been proposed in co authorship with Debernardi, to the case of a concrete tie reinforced with two types of bars with different diameters, but with the same bond characteristics, subjected to a statically applied axial force. The model, which is based on the assumptions of linear elastic "sigma-epsilon" laws for both types of bars, as well as for the concrete, and on the bond law proposed in fib Model Code 2010, is used to study both the crack formation stage and the stabilized cracking stage considering the effect of internal secondary cracks. Some case studies are examined to show the influence of the diameters and of the reinforcement ratios on the cracking behaviour, even though they have not been verified experimentally because of a lack of available test results in the literature. Moreover, a parametric analysis is conducted to compare the theoretical results obtained using the general model and the calculation methods proposed in fib Model Code 2010 and Eurocode 2, and it emerges that both standards underestimate the maximum crack spacing and the maximum crack width obtained with the general model. A modified version of the fib Model Code 2010 calculation method, here called Simplified Method, which is based on an improved assessment of the average bond stress that takes into account the effect of internal secondary cracks, is also proposed for the stabilised cracking stage
Three-Fingered Gripper with Flexure Hinges Actuated by Shape Memory Alloy Wires
A three-fingered gripper with flexure hinges actuated by shape memory alloy (SMA) wires was designed and prototyped. The aim of the work was the manipulation of small, almost cylindrical objects, e.g. test tubes, by a device having small overall dimensions. A parametric study of four different, but similar, fingers was conducted with the aim of obtaining a solution with a good amplification ratio and a gripping force almost constant during closure. The use of flexure hinges simplifies the design, but limits the finger range of motion. Moreover, it was possible to find a configuration with sufficient work space. Once the finger geometry was defined, the whole hand was then designed with the aim of producing a compact hand contained in a cylindrical volume (d 65 x h 65 mm), and the first prototype was built. Preliminary tests demonstrated its good dimensioning and the success of some technological solutions. The experimental transmission ratio was almost the same as the theoretical one. Some drawbacks have been highlighted, such as a reduced range of motion and incomplete backstroke; future studies will deal with them
Amplitude dependence of equivalent modal parameters in monitored buildings during earthquake swarms
This paper investigates the dynamic response of three sample buildings belonging to the Seismic Observatory for Structures, the Italian network for the permanent seismic monitoring of strategic structures, managed by the Italian Department of Civil Protection. The case studies cover different building types that could loosely represent the Italian building stock, with a special emphasis on cultural heritage and masonry structures. Observed under a low-intensity seismic swarm comprising about 30 aftershocks after a main event, the three buildings are analysed through an input-output, model-driven linear dynamic identification procedure, depicting the relation between the shaking level at the site and the variation of the equivalent structural modal parameters, while keeping into account the effects of soil-structure interaction. Finite element models will be used to investigate one of the case studies and to compare the law of variation of the structural modal parameters with respect to simplified models proposed by technical standards
